Eid

SILVERJOW

Apparently Eid Mubarak is an important celebration for Muslims around the world. I often wonder what it means to be Muslim and lgbtq. Belonging to a religion that denies your existence -and punishes you for it- is anathema to me. It blows my mind. I am not a religious person, so blind faith in itself seems useless but celebrations, especially during this time of pandemic could be very uplifting.

So fuck it. For all those Muslim lgbtq peeps, Eid Mubarak. You are seen.

  1. I've known two lesbians of Muslim background over the years. Unsurprisingly, neither one was religious.

    1. I know! Silverjow, the guy who did the drawing illustrating this post -I assume- is Muslim. And he's obviously gay/bi/queer. Like ex-xtianists everywhere, I imagine you can take the boy out of the cult but not the cult out of the boy...

  2. The thought that in this day and age you could lose your life for being who you are and living who you love is pure fuckery. And all in the name of religion. I have the utmost respect for those dealing with any kind of repression. But this is insane. As you said, we do see you.

    1. It's crazy. It's not like it's the Iron Age. Superstition. IT kills people.

  3. Interestingly enough, for hundreds of years Islam was far more tolerant of alternative lifestyles than Christianity and it's only within the last few generations that hard line conservatives have sought to change that. However, things are changing. The leniency we've been seeing in Saudi Arabia in regard to women in regard to their driving, allowed in to sporting events, and shopping (?) is an indicator the hardliners are being sidelined. Restrictive societies fail.

    1. Well, that's what Sharia Law does. That's what happens when there's no separation of church and state. And I think they'll never soften their stance on anything regarding sex. These are patriarchal societies. Men will never let go of power.

  4. Catholics and Mormons are just as vile to the LGBTQ community.
One MORE reason I don't follow organized religion.

    1. Any organized religion is based on the legislation of private behaviors and beliefs. That's why they're so poisonous. Any Abrahamic religion is based on suppression of sex. And they all started as cults. Mormonism is young, but as bananas and as sex-negative as Christendom.

  5. organized religion, the houses of worship, and the sheeple should be permanently eliminated. then we free-thinkers can rejoice.

But you know that they don't have a mind of their own and they need to feel that their Sky Daddy has everything planned for them. Idiots.

  6. I dated a Muslim guy for a few weeks, he was conflicted about the two worlds. It was surprising how accepting his family was of him. I have to disagree with Bob, I'm not aware of any Catholics or Mormons hanging gay people from street lights or stoning them to death.

    1. I have never dated a Muslim. Closeted Catholics? Yes. And I think a Mormon. But never a Muslim. I don't understand lgbtq people who feel 'conflicted' when it comes to their religion. Never have, never will. And I tend to agree with you here. Islam is not even in the same realm of crazy as any other cult. They're deranged.

  7. I have to agree with Bob; the Mormons and Catholics are vile. Mormons encourage people to shun their own family members who come out at LGBTQ - that's pretty vile. But the Catholics who preach so hard against the LGBTQ community and then turn around and molest young men are even worse. Having been raised Catholic, organized religions rather anger me. If a person wants to believe, that's fine with me so long as they don't try to push others into those beliefs. The so-called non-denominational ones - like Olsteen, Bakker, and Graham are after one thing: Money. That is their real God. Oh, okay....rant over. :-) xoxo

    1. Mormonism is young but virulent. I think it needs to be so it prevails. Also, their beliefs are CRAZY and the Book of Mormon is a patchwork even worse than the Bible. Catholicism has been a fucked up cult from the beginning. I am also a lapsed Catholic and I think the church's bloody, anti-woman, anti-sex, preying history is disgusting. As for the Protestant denominations, they're a money making scheme. True dat.
