Oh, Fredd

Oh, yes Fredd. We've all done it: sit down and critique million dollar properties as if we could ever do it better. One thing that also have in common is that we all carve our little (or big) spaces and it's been proved once and again that each has their own way of making it 'our own'. It does not have to be luxurious, it just has to be... ours. Especially that first place we have that we can call our own. Oh, how I loved my first place! It was tiny (Fredd's here is palatial compared to the place I had). But I was  oh so absolutely thrilled, I could not wait to get home.

In his apartment, I of course love the fact that there's exposed brick, vinyl records and plants. Duh. It's like Fredd has visited me and taken some pointers. But it's true what they say, that there's little pieces of ourselves throughout our houses and those are the things that make it homey, right? Also, I love apartment living. I know the day I decide to own a house is gonna be HUGE for me. I have mostly lived in apartments (with some stints at houses) but I think that I may eventually graduate into a house. Small, probably. One of those starter house models. I don't need four bedrooms and three bathrooms, mind you.

Living in a small space (moving to New York most everybody has to think that their space is going to be small!) really make you think about multifunctionality and use of space. I think that he's managed very well (I'd be pressed to find space for the ton of shit I have and when I say ton of shit I mean clothes because of course) and he's not compromised where he didn't want to  (the bed and that awesome bathroom). I wish I could live a little bit more like that. Sometimes I think I have too much 'stuff'.

And he's right: home is refuge, home is peace, home is an oasis away from the chaos. Home is what we make, right?

XOXO

  1. And he's done a great job of it. Reminds me of MM#1 Fans place!!! I could live there. My place is probably bigger right now...so some things would have to go. And again call me nuts but I love apartment living. After all we cant take it with us when we did. I think im going to next do a wallpaper in the hallway that either looks like brick or some form of wood.

I adored his kitchen. Of course when you have a design background many struggle with such small spaces and apartments. Or don't put in an effort to make it a home. But that's a whole other story.

    1. Oh, he's used every single nook and cranny.
And it's New York! If I lived in NY, I'd live in an apartment, of course.
Ohhh and wallpapering is awesome! Please let us see the results. I'm excited just thinking about it. Remember what Drew did on Lone Fox with that lemon wallpaper?
And I bet his design background did have something to do in the set up of the space.

  2. While we are not hoarders by any stretch, I cannot begin to imagine what would go if we downsized even though I love this apartment and the design of it. Books alone might fill a room!

    1. OMG same!
I have lived in efficiencies, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments and houses. I keep dragging stuff with me just because I have the space. It's annoying.
My clothes alone would fill a ton of space in his apartment!

  3. I could live with Fredd (HAWT) in 400sf. We downsized to under 900sf and it is kinda rough; like storing the vacuum cleaner behind a door that stays open. Putting stuff behind the sofa I never thought of, hmmm???
It is amazing the crap you accumulate and are not willing to let go of.

    You are very educational today!

    1. Yes!
Downsizing is kind of difficult. I've tried to do it and I end up with more stuff. It's frustrating. Right now I use a storage unit outside my bedroom for clothes. The previous owners used it to store xmas stuff and the such. I use it for my jeans and shoes.

      LOL yes, I am.

    1. Oh, we know.
It says a lot that you're able to keep that whole house for yourself and the dogs. Some people cannot do that. At all.

  5. LOVE the lamp over the couch(?) loveseat?). Love the vintage record player! And, is that an old crate holding the vinyl? Yes! Stored my vinyl in old peach crates for years.
We don't judge million-dollar places as if we could do it better - we judge them from the angle of what we would do different to suit our needs and life and sense of style. Ain't nothing wrong with that, right? XOXO

    1. He's done a great job with the details.
OMG Big, I store my vinyl in old milk crates! I love them. I stole them from the manfriend who had them piled up in a closet with nonsense and tools.
LOL and we do talk about those million dollar houses, no? And nope, there's nothing wrong with that.

  6. I love living in an apartment. Something about it makes me feel safe. But like you, I think I will eventually move to small house that I'll call mine...and perhaps leave to a deserving nephew or niece that doesn't relegate me to a nursing home in my old age.

    1. Same.
It's very cocoon-like and you don't have to deal with landscaping and plumbing. I also think I'd like a small house eventually. Maybe a mid-century ranch? LOL
And mine would also go to my nephew. We literally have the same plans!!

    2. A small mid-century ranch? OMG, yes. But none of my nieces or nephews bother with us. We've just designated two friends (both younger). One who calls once per week just to say hello. Heck, we have Friendship Lamps with one of them who lives in the Pacific NW. The lamp lights up - we know she's thought about us. The two of them will split everything we have left.

    3. Haha yes!
And my nephew is super cool with me. He's also gay, so I'm more than ready to leave everything to him. It's lovely you have two friends who are there for you. Friends are the family we choose.

  7. Lovely place. LOVELY MAN. Oh. MY. GERRRRRG. Is there a vacancy? His voice alone does it for me. You? Hmmm? So handsome and talented. Two qualities that seemed to have missed stopping in muh house. Well, you all dream about having that ambiance, while I quietly keep undressing the current occupant of my heart... Kizzes.

Yes, love the place. Yes, he's super charming. And you keep complaining, but I bet your place is cool. We need a tour, Upton!

  8. It’s amazing what he’s done either the 400 sqft. Storing utility items behind the couch is genius. I love how the bed just fits in the room. And his style is fantastic. I did notice that they didn’t show any closet space, did they? Don’t you need 400 sqft. just for your wardrobe?

    1. It is amazing.
And he's worked miracles but it's expected in such a space in New York.
And they did not show the closet. And how dare you judge my wardrobe? LMAOOO
Yes, I'd probably need his bedroom to store all those pants.

  9. exposed bricks is what you can notice immediately
I noticed the position of the bed at 2:50. Isn't that a bit uncomfortable? too short space for the bed in that position, I mean!

    1. Oh, yes.
And I think he mentioned that he liked a bigger bed, so he went with that one. It does take a lot of space! New York apartments don't tend to be very big.

    2. my consideration is due, perhaps, to the fact that I am small and I sleep alone.
