Raymond and Laird

I think I like the whole Mid Century aesthetic a lot. I like the clean lines and most of the colors used during that time period (my fav is that semi-chartreuse green, TBH). I'd love to incorporate it into my space, too. Yes, I know. That sounds like I wanna go full-on GrandMillenial, but bear with me. I usually find that the pieces I adore are way too expensive or that I'd really need my own house to be able to make them justice.

I  also love it when houses look kind of pretty outside and you go inside and you get a pleasant surprise by discovering they're full of character. Also, if I were to live with someone, this is the kind of balance I'd like to achieve: complementing each other's style while keeping everything colorful and airy. Not easy, I'm telling you, what Raymond and Laird have achieved here. Also, given that they both have such different yet creative professions, I'm not surprised the interior of the house looks like this.

The problem with Mid-Century is that it can look stage-y if you don't rein it in. And they achieved a great balance here, both with colors and with finishes. Remodeling a house is not an easy feat and neither is trying to accommodate two different aesthetic visions, but when it's done well, the final result is fantastic.

I discovered I'm all for sexy mudrooms, I love the living room (books, books, books!) and the kitchen is absolutely unrecognizable and that's a great thing. And the lounge? Oh, yes. And the His and His bathroom? Oh, dream. And the studios? Perfect for two people who work from home (or not!). This is how it's done, children!

I loved the house. If I ever move in with someone, I'll show him this video. If he likes it, it's a deal.

XOXO

  1. it's okay. I hate chartreuse. Grew up with it. You either liked it, or called it baby shit green.

    1. I think they did a great job. They transformed suburban purgatory into something stylish. And I love that green! I also like purple, so there's that.

  2. I'm here for the remodel, though I loathe a one-car garage.
But it's that wall of books that sold me the most!

    1. They did the outside and the inside. I just can imagine how much was it.
And the one car rage was probably due to the original configuration? Did you see the Before of that mudroom?
      Oh, the books.

  3. They’ve done a remarkable job on this rehab. Surprising that they took up the old carpet in the lower level, had it cleaned and reinstalled it. I love the wood throughout and that they kept some of the original paneling.

    1. They have!
It's like it is another house. It also surprised me the bit about the carpet. Maybe it was in good shape and they loved the color? I also loved that wood paneling detail. I never thought I'd write that. LOL

  4. Loved it. Excellent choices. 'Course, you know all the books are at the top of my list. The kitchy things - like that bronze chicken on the wall. LOL. My one disagreement is the "odd layout of living spaces at the back." It's not odd at all - it's how I designed my house with easy access and flow to the patio, bbq, and pool. It's pretty much how people live now. XOXO

    1. I think they did choose well the details.
The books and the kitsch totally add personality to the house. I loved the tiny RV! And I have one of those leather-tripoid little chairs. And I agree with you: no odd spaces there.

  5. about books, I can tell you that any space that is not filled with them seems to me a waste. And as for green, I love all shades of green and blue since childhood. So where I see green and blue, I'm so happy.

    1. I agree!
It's always kind of necessary to have books. They are never in the way. And even though my favorite color is not green, there are some shades of green I love.

  6. Interesting house -- nice interior design. I too liked the gold roast chicken on the wall, but the painting in front of the curtains in the bedroom struck me as weird positioning. I like the house's "look," but I don't know if I could live in it. Also, boys, hire a yard/poolside landscaper and designer next! Two lounge chairs sitting on the grass verge? That's unworthy of two gay men.

    1. It is an interesting home. It's a good combo of very clear lines and the added touches of quirk. I think they did the curtains to add a solid color to the room. One of them does not enjoy white too much. I also think they mentioned the bedrooms are in the front of the house, so that door is open to the living room?
I cackled at the lounge chairs? It's maybe because they're Canadian?
      Kidding!!
      LOL

  7. This might be the first one you have ever featured that did nothing for me, color wise, or in style. I'm not sure what it was. I'm just not feeling it. About the only thing I liked was the wall of bookcase. And this is a terrible thing to say, but they remind me of two of my social friends, outside of the clan, who are your two typical Banana Republic wearing, gay sticks in the mud. There idea of fun is a two-martini night ...on a Tuesday night. LOL!!!!!

    1. I liked the color choices, though. That blue shelf at the entrance, or the burnt yellow curtains in the bedroom. And I loved their little den with the drinks. But I can totally see the Banana Republic Gays gathering on a Tuesday night! LMAOOOO
I think the taller one was quite yummy, too. I'd climb that and let daddy watch.

    2. @ Maddie - The shorter one came off stiff...and not where it would be fun.

  8. Adore this. Very practical and aesthetically pleasing. The idea of all that light and space working with color and the simplicity. Bravo. They got it right. And they certainly are 'A' gays, huh? The house, the careers, the hobbies... wow. Good for them. Thanks for sharing. Kizzes.

    1. I also liked it a lot.
They basically reinvented that boring house and opened it to light and space. Did you see the kitchen? And they do have the dough, apparently. All that costed a pretty penny.
