Oh, an Enigma..?

 Two very different stories.

Two very different women.

One truth still stands: representation matters.

    1. Yes, it's a pity that it's only on HBO.
I have not seen it anywhere else.

  2. That looks fascinating. And will smack the bigots who say trans people haven't been around very long right in their heads.

They are trying to tell us that Transgender people just happened to pop up in 2020.

  3. Big says,
Well, I remember Christine Jorgensen. How many decades ago was that?? It seems Parisians have always been more acceptinng than anyone at anytime in the US, more's the pity.

    1. Europe has always been ahead of the very puritanical America, that's for sure.

And it's very illuminating. A total contrast in approach and personalities. Amanda is still very reluctant. After fifty years.

They mention Coccinelle in the documentary! Super famous and GORGEROUS!
I do know that Europe tends to be more tolerant (well, there's Le Pen, hein?) but America is very provincial.
And I can't believe six of them died in a plane crash!! OMG.

  6. Two of my favorite legends! And a tidbit and tea.... interestingly, April Ashley basically outed Amanda Lear, when Lear was highly secretive about her past. She even revealed Lear's real name. Shortly after their days at the Carousel, they never talked again. And many reporters had caught Lear many times over in discrepancies of her birth year, where her parents were from and their ethnicity, and what country she was from. She has changed the story so many times, some wonder if she knows anymore.

    Hope to be back soon!

They do talk about that in the documentary. Lear has been notoriously tight-lipped and super evasive about it all and even NOW she dismisses everything as 'rumors'. There's a very telling scene at the end, when a Trans person talks to her and tells her how iconic she is for the community, and you can see the mask shifting a tiny bit...
