Oh, Lipsynka..!

 I love ‘old school’ Drag.

And following a post @Mads offered in her blog about bringing well known Drag artists together for an Olympic Drag Race, what’s better than a taste of 90’s Drag? Here’s @Lipsynka, one of my favorite Drag entertainers, showing the children how it’s done. From my perspective, it’s theater, it’s camp and it’s a social commentary on gender all rolled into one fun, glam package.

Yes, the new girlies coming up are great and very talented, but it’s good to see Drag from when Drag was not available in America’s living rooms. It feels punk rock. And @Lipsynka is the perfect example.

Enjoy!

XOXO

  2. Thanks for the call out sexy! A Drag Olypimic with them all would be fun, but it would never happen, as it is not in their blood to do a show like drag race. For them it's too mainstream, watered down and cookie cutter for them and they don't do rules and jump through hoops! Try telling Coco Peru or Lipsynka they have to create a sea monster glam outfit and then jump in a dunk tank!!!!

While your right, all the queens are talented and have balls for doing it. but I will always have more love and respect for the old school queens, who do it all while being activist, and did it all on their own...they didn't have socials then, a reality shows to bring them into the light, and a team to help them create their personas. They did it all and are still here and just as well known. These new queens will be as lucky to still be relevant let alone known, like the old school queens.

I've long loved Lipsynka! Having met her several times in New York and Ptown. She can be quite bitchy towards fans. and rude, but that's about my only compliant with her. If I was close friends with him, I would definitely have him at a arms length.

But, wouldn't it be great to see a show built around them - their style of performance? I'd pay to see that!

    2. Oh, it'd have to be a totally different format. I just can imagine Jackie Beat and Lady Bunny calling out Ru ON THE RUNWAY! LOL
It'd have to be some kind of humorous, free-flowing format where they just follow the Queens around and catch some pearls of wisdom along the way LMAOO. It'll also be cable. That shit could NOT go on national TV.

And I can imagine Lipsynka being slightly short (unless you're young, hung and full of c*m) LMAOOO she's old school.

  4. It was far less over the top than it is now, sort of casually glamourous.

Oh dear. That was 'tame' because it was a Gaultier fashion show. Her actual show can get much more risqué. But she IS casually glamourous.

What a great routine. Yep, I agree --- that's what DRAG should be: Funny, glam, irreverent, classy.
Oh, I could imagine a whole show built around old school performers. No, not the Ru kind of show, but one that features exactly who and what they've always represented. Wouldn't that be awesome?
