Oh, Valentina...!
I think that growing up in between two cultures is difficult because you don't feel like you belong to either while being part of both. Add to that feeling in between two genders and things get really complicated. I kinda feel Valentina here.
I also think Valentina is one of those characters that really stay with you even after they're not on screen anymore. Those moments she talks about that have become synonym with Valentina (the Linda Evangelista bit, the 'may I keep it on, please? bit) really kind of set her apart from the group or her peers. I believe that they work to her advantage, instead of being drawbacks. I remember when she was in the TV version of Rent. She was also memorable there. Because she's right: when she's on stage, she's electrical.
She's the princess of Southeast LA, hunny!

Intersting.
ReplyDeleteIt is!
DeleteSuccess for these girls go beyond the 15 minutes of the TV program. I think she has been very successful and has achieved a lot, both personally and professionaly.

Good video! I remember her season on Drag Race and that whole "mask-gate" incident. Great to see a fuller portrait of her here.
ReplyDeleteOh, the mask-gate was a hoot!
DeleteAnd I agree that this video lets us see 'more' than just the pretty face.
XOXO
I always liked valentina, but that whole mask thing was escandalo!
ReplyDeleteNice to hear her tell of us about her journey.
xoxo
LOL
DeleteESCANDALO!! Everybody and their uncle were talking about the whole mask fiasco. More power to her that rode that horse to fame.
XOXO
She really is to be commended. It's been a rough journey but she's made it through. "Success is the best revenge."
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Yes!
DeleteAnd yes to success being the best revenge. I can relate.
XOXO
I like Valentina well enough but I'm far from one of her huge fans that's for sure. If I had to be backstage with her somewhere I probably put an ice pic through my head. I understand from other queens she is very difficult and high maintenance backstage. But That season when she wouldn't take that mask off that did give me a good chuckle. It looked like RuPaul was getting ready to get up from behind the desk and clock her.
ReplyDeleteEven without her transitioning she was already so feminine .. but she she looks incredible now. Even without all the makeup.
DeleteOh, there are stories of her taking her TIME! LOL
DeleteAnd I think her not taking the mask off was iconic. Many Ru girls 'lose' in their seasons but are forever tied to the lore of the program.
And she's always been beautiful. That bone structure!!
XOXO
Ahhhh....to be born with good genes.
DeleteXOXO
Ooh, I like her! And she’s stunning.
ReplyDeleteIsn't she?
DeleteI think she's very pretty and very talented.
