As the Maya kingdom faces its decline, the rulers insist the key to prosperity is to build more temples and offer human sacrifices. Jaguar Paw (Rudy Youngblood), a young man chosen for sacrifice, flees the kingdom to avoid his fate. Some people are all up in arms with Mel for the violence and the Maya language spoken in the movie (mind you, it's Americans who would not read subtitles to save their lives), but they forget to mention that they should find similarities with their own culture before they give their opinion. Idiot people in the goverment following their 'advisors' suggestions: checked. Greed and mindless vanity? : checked. Consumerism: checked. Invasion of other People's for personal gain: checked. Hmmmm.. maybe it hits too close to home? Mel may be racist and homophobic and a drunk. But the movie is cool. Go see it. Taht is, if you don't mind reading subtitles and you've got a brain.
