Alita

So I went to see Alita. If you know me, you'll know that I'm a sucker for anything sci-fi or fantasy or anything cyberpunk or in the post-apocalyptic realm. Yep. I'm geeky. And I like it. So Alita is based on a manga graphic novel that I've seen here and there, but I've really never payed much attention to it. There's so much material out there that's interesting that sometimes my mind just cannot keep up.

The movie itself is a treat: stunning visuals, a cool story, a female lead and very good actors peppered throughout for our enjoyment. An anime and manga feast with awesome special effects.  The cast is diverse -which is something that has irked fans before, with all the whitewashing of characters that had already been established on the page- and really cool (Jennifer Connelly, Christoph Walz and Mahershala Ali shine) so it's worth the price of the tix. On top of that, it's one of those movies that's worth seeing in the big screen. Yeah, there's still some of those. Not everything is Netflixable.

But what called my attention was the girl's romantic interest. Keean Johnson. Apparently he has been a child actor and has been in some TV serials including The Fosters and Nashville before he was cast here. The boy is magnetic. Really. An easy masculinity and an adorable swagger make watching him a pleasure. And Robert Rodriguez lets us ogle him in all his shirtless glory. I was not mad. Not at all. And you know what? This happens to me every time I go to the movies. There's always the obvious eye candy (Mahershala swags and smiles and you'll swoon) but it was Alita's boy toy who caught my eye.

I hope we get to see more of him. Hopefully a second part to this Alita movie. Or anything else.
I'd watch.

XOXO

  1. My, this film looks awesome! I'm going to have to search it out. The trailer does it's job and draws you in.

And thanks for the eye candy, babe! Always a treat, and low in calories.

  2. I'd seen a preview and it seems interesting, though I'm drawn to smaller stories with less CGI.
Still, the young man is, what do the kids say these days, 'dreamy'?
    =)

    1. Yep, he is! And it’s worth the popcorn and seeing it in the big screen. The special FX are kinda needed to tell these stories st in an indefinite future and in this case, they really enhance the experience.

  4. I had planed to see it, but then this weird guy at work saw it and kept walking around saying "Alita, Alita, Alita," in a high pitched voice and I lost total interest in it.
