For Pete’s sake

Buttigieg is an underdog in the fight for the presidency, and if elected, the 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana would become both the youngest president ever and the first to reach the office directly from a mayorship. Buttigieg knows he’s young, and doesn’t hesitate to point out that he has more years of executive governing experience than his high-profile Hoosier political counterpart, Vice President Mike Pence, and more military experience than any President since George H. W. Bush.  Aamina Khan

I think that this Peter Buttigieg affair is going to be historical no matter what. Whether he gets the nomination from the Democrats (you know that uncle Joe may get it, right?) I find Pete to be personable, knowledgeable, intelligent, assertive and, to tell you the truth, sexy. Yep, cause intelligence is sexy. And this man is actually smart. And it shows.

When I first heard about him I was surprised. Surprised that South Bend, a basically nondescript city in Indiana (Indiana, that is a big extension of nothing sprinkled some Amish and some garden variety bigots who elected Mike Pence as governor) would have elected a gay mayor. A married gay man as their mayor. I was slightly shook.

That alone I find it to be groundbreaking. Not because a gay man would be invested in politics, but because such an apparently nondescript city in an apparently conservative state would have a gay man as their mayor. That was outstanding, IMHO. It indicates that Buttigieg has the chops and the drive to be a good politician. He's young, yes, but he's got more going on for him politically than the current inhabitant of the White House. Which at this moment does not seem like praise, because the bar is set so low. But he's got more going on for him than both the president and the vice president of the United States in what concerns integrity and knowledge. He's much better than many of the people serving in this current administration, too.

Pete is very smart. He's been featured in national tv and has come out of that trial by fire very well. Besides, he's social media savvy and has loads of personality besides being politically aware and able to think on his feet. There's an anecdote of him spontaneously speaking in Norwegian to somebody that's making the rounds. Norwegian. He learned Norwegian because he was interested in an author who was not translated into English. Not that speaking several foreign languages makes you a good presidential candidate but it does say something about you: you operate at a different intellectual level to that of the garden variety politician. Silly anecdote for some who are waiting for the next white male Dem savior, but it makes me like him more. In comparison, Toadstool Yetipubes comes across as barely literate in tweeter and speaks at the fourth grade level.  I hope Pete's exploratory committee succeeds and I hope he runs. The field is going to be crowded (I like some of the other candidates, too!) but I truly hope that if Pete does run and does not make it as president, he'll be considered by some of the candidates as a running mate. He'd make a fantastic vice president. Can you imagine that? What about a ticket with a Democrat woman as president and a gay Democrat man as vice president? I can just see all the bigoted, sexist, conservative MAGAts heads exploding. That would make me happy.

Not to mention that I'd literally die if we get to have a 'first gentleman' in the White House. Can you imagine? Now, THAT would be historical.
A boy can dream, no?

So, this makes me happy. The fact that a gay man goes on national tv and talks about his husband without giving pause to overthink that fact, the fact that national magazines and newspapers fawn over the fact that they look so cute together and speculate about the possibility of two gay men living in the white house makes me happy. Because not long ago gay men were entrapped by the police in public bathrooms and jailed for fucking in 'public' and had their lives ruined. Not log ago men were considered mentally ill and given electroshock to make them straight and when that did not work, they were chemically castrated. Not long ago we were another description in the DSM. Not long ago we were beaten up and left to die in a fence in Wyoming (thanks, Anne Marie!).

Think about that. That's why I'm so excited about Pete Buttigieg.

XOXO

  2. It certainly is an exciting sign of the times! He's establishing himself as a leader for the future alright. His nomination run will raise his profile tremendously, with any luck.

    1. Yes! I was also thinking about his future in politics. He’ll go far.

  3. A little something about South Bend IN. It’s a college town, so that would give it s liberal bent. But not just any college. The catholic University of Norte Dame, with Touchdown Jesus, and all. And he came out after he was elected but managed to get 80% of the vote for his re-election!

Pete is smart. He does his homework. He’s made it to the stage for the first Dem debate. If he doesn’t head the ticket, he should be on it as VP. My only concern is the fucking evangelical vote and all of their homophobic shit. But I’d definitely support him.

    XOXO 👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨

    1. He did? I didn’t know that, bae.
But the thing is he did come out and he did get married to his man. And the evangelicals can kiss my ass. He got elected, catholic university or not.

  4. I like Pete because he says it like it is. I like Pete because he's smart. committed and driven to help this country. I don't think he'll be president this time, though that would be great, but Veep? Yes, please.

  6. I have heard of him and would totally vote for him. So far I like his personality the best. We need to move in a different direction and get the stuff, stanch, conservative white man club broke up, and be the diverse country we are. The diversity far out numbers the whites.....yet we allow them to keep getting in.

    1. Yes! I was just mentioning this to someone today. It’s a diverse country and it should be reflected in the government!
