Arca
Well, when it comes to LGBTQ artists we are used to the most conventional ones. And then there's Arca. More performance art than pop music, she shocks and entices. Arca defines herself as non-binary and uses the she/her pronouns. She's been around. She's worked with Bjork (another goddess) and with Kanye West (can do without him) and has released some mixtapes and some LPs.
I find her infinitely interesting. The music is strange and the visuals stunning. I don't know how to categorize it. And that's what I like from my artists. I like artists that provoke a reaction (that's why I like Madge). And if there's a message and a melody, you can count me in. So go ahead and treat yourself to a little Arca. You're welcome.

She is a unique performer. Her music is very haunting, and as you said the visuals are stunning. The first video on the stilts almost gives her a centaur feeling. Though not really my cup of tea, I can see why you can get into her performance.

Videos are interesting, however keep in mind that the classification of an orientation by a performance artist maybe actually be part of the performance persona.
ReplyDelete@Bae: yes, that first video is full of imagery. The bullfighter jacket and the jockstrap add layers to the whole thing
ReplyDelete@Dave: yes, it could be. Of course her IG and twitterer are overly telling.
