... And The Winner Is...

Ok. so I was talking a few posts back about the Str8UpGayPorn awards and noted that only one black performer got a big award in that show. So I decided to dig deeper and find out how many men of color were awarded a recognition during that night or during other award shows. Apparently there's several porn award shows during the year. One is still to come in May, here in Chicago: the Grabbies. Who's got tickets? I wanna go!

I learned a lot about these awards during my dive into the porn awards world. There's tons of studios, and niche sites and providers and all that jazz. Because of course I had to do it. You know, in the name of scientific inquiring. If someone has to do it, it better be me.

Ryheim Shabazz was named best newcomer. The man is talented. Not bad, that he was recognized and that's important. He also won best JustForFans model of the year in the GayVN awards, so there's that. But then I discovered that Ashton Summers also got an award that same night for favorite body. And he's Boricua. So yay for men of color.

And of course he's got a bangin' body. He trained as a dancer, natch. 

Then in the performer of the year category, there was Mateo Vice, who apparently comes from Arizona, but I see some flavor. Just a quick apart, because they did nominate some performers who broke the Sean Cody/ Bel Ami/ Chaos men mold.

Now, according to the 2020 GayVN awards, who also recognize outstanding performers in the gay adult industry, DeAngelo Jackson won best actor. That man has got a BODY.

Mr. Jackson, if you're nasty. I had no idea he was such a talented performer. 

Then there's Pheonix Fellington, who won an award for best duo sex scene. Yep, there's such thing. and Mr. Fellington apparently excelled in it. He also reminds me of some R&B crooner, but I can't put my finger on it. 

I cannot argue their choice. Nope.

Then there's Nick Sahara, who was named Best Newcomer, tied with Alex Riley:

He's giving me diversity vibes. Not your cookie-cutter gay performer, in any case.

Oh, and Beaux Banks won for best butt, an honor I think nobody would refuse:

Who could argue about him winning this prize? Apparently the public does know what it wants.

Also, I discovered that Armond Rizzo (who is one of my fav power bottoms, especially after he took on the Rocco Steele's challenge) was named social media star. Well, played, Armond!

So there you have it. I had to dig through the awards because to tell you the truth, I don't know many of these performers by name. The thing is, porn may have some diversity but you really have to go in (no pun intended) to find it. There's basically three black performers and some variations of men of color in the awards, but there's not a lot of variety within the studios. Some of these performers do crossover porn and don't stay in the niche studios and that's great, but I think there could be more variety. 

For example, there was a Best Black-Themed site award at the GayVN and Noir Male won best site (the names of the sites are a sight to see, though. Talk about stereotypes!). Latin Leche (not very subtle, huh?) won for best Latin Site, too.
