Oh, Camilo

I was reading TatoJimmy and I came across him. And of course I was curious, because porn. And because I am always intrigued when porn stars seem to have a backstory. His name is Camilo Uribe and apparently he has retired from porn (it's not the most stable of professions, as you can imagine) and let me tell you, he's got everything that's needed to be successful in it. What called my attention is that when I wanted to know more about him, I found out he's probably left porn for good and he's apparently determined to change direction completely. His twitter bio says he's retired and is going to be a lawyer. Last post was last year. And I was down the rabbit hole.

His IG (@kmilouribe1), nevertheless, is still active and we see the other side of him (if you follow him, because now the account is private!) :

He seems to be coming out of some sort of emotional/physical glitch and talks about being a month free of some 'poison'. I guess it could be alcohol or drugs. Whatever it is, kudos to him. You see, there's a meme going around that has people representing themselves in LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. It's like The Three Faces of Eve: how we represent ourselves in social media. On LinkedIn we are professionals, on Facebook, we are members of a family or community, on Twitter we are slutty and on Instagram we present a more curated part of ourselves. And it was no exception with Camilo: on Twitter there's links to sexy videos, comments on his porn career and smut galore. On Instagram, it's all about his friends and nice landscapes and inspirational quotes. There's also a more playful side to him, and that was super endearing.

It's funny, how we always forget that all those beautiful men who look at us from the screens of our computers while showing us impossible feats in bed do have another lives. Lives that are rich and that they are only naked for us for those minutes they are on that video. Because there's always a level of dissonance between who we want them to be and who they are. All these porn stars do have a life beside the images we see of them: they are people. They have their ups and downs and friends, and family and go on vacation and watch tv and get together with friends to grab a coffee. That's why I like to dig in the lives of these beautiful men: they become more real when I learn things about them. And I think that's cool. It adds dimension to the persona they portray on the screen. It makes their output more meaningful, according to me.

Now he seems at peace with himself, and I think that is super cool. I know there's more to this story than what I am writing here, of course, but I'd like to think that for this retired porn actor, life is now what he wants it to be. He still seems to be himself, playful and sexy and with a touch of braggadocio (trust me, he's got things to brag about) but with a more down-to-earth feeling. And I don't think that his reference to being one of god's children (it's on his IG profile) has to do with some wingnuttery. I think it may have to do to having found his center after whatever it is that happened to him. His IG is geotagged in Colombia, so he's gone back to his roots after having had a successful run in porn. Kudos to him. Also, Colombia is beautiful, natch.

For what I can infer from the pictures, he's not coming from money. He's basically your garden variety young man in Latin America who's got a break doing some porn and now he's back to his 'real' life. Kind of a reverse CinderFella. Am I inventing this narrative? Of course I am. I have no idea who he is or what he's doing now. But I have been known to read between the lines and his story is one of hope and realization. Because even those whose lives seem to us to be especially coveted have their own little tragedies and glitches. And Camilo seems to have found his groove. Kudos to him.

So here he is. He seems healthy and happy and that's what counts. Even after the 180 from porn to peaceful retirement and hopefully a promising future. I may follow his story. Even if just out of curiosity. He seems full of hope and that's something that's always good.

XOXO

  1. I hope he finds what he’s looking for. We had that other porn actor that “retired” recently from porn and joined a gay conversation group, didn’t we? That didn’t last long of memory serves me right.

But from what you tell us, Camilo is happy on his new path. So all the best for him. Fortunately the internet is forever and we’ll be able to remember him when...

    1. OMG yes! Very good example. It's fucking 2020. Having been in porn or being a sex worker is not the Scarlet Letter it used to be.

    2. I love porn and I'd be amazed having a teacher or even a colleague on my job!
But for me it's very easy, because I'm open minded!

I see no impediment. They are probably super fun and know how to charm people. It comes with the territory.

  4. We always tend to think those we see on the screen (large or small or tiny) are exactly what we view. Nothing could be further from the truth. They all have lives, they all face difficulties in those lives, they get ill, they struggle with demons. Sadly, when when discovering they are human there is a tendency to try to tear them down, rather than help build them back up. You are to be commended for being the latter rather than the former. xoxo

    1. Ah yes. That utilitarian feeling many people have towards porn stars or sex workers: they use them when they need them and then discard them. Lame.
Seriously, some people's lives would be absolutely miserable if they didn't have porn or sex workers....

  5. Now, at least, if he doesn't succeed he will have at least tried, and can't blame it on looking older.
