it's a sin

Dahlia Sin was the first queen eliminated in RPDR this season. I think she was one of the prettiest queens this season. Maybe one of the prettiest in the last three seasons. I was really surprised by her lip-synch. Or lack thereof. I think she did not know the words, which is a capital sin in Drag. Girl was mugging it up for the camera, so I really don't understand why is it that she fucked it up so royally in front of RuPaul. Queens know better than not lip-synch for their lives. After all, it's a Drag Queen contest!

While I was still in shock about her performance I was shocked yet again when she basically blew her season competitors and did not say anything when she was leaving the stage. She probably didn't learn the Miss Vanjie lesson: you can be the first eliminated but you could become one of the most memorable queens of the season. Has she met PorkChop? Soju? Girl was a fool. She was basically throwing a tantrum.

I think she's suffering from pretty boy/handsome man syndrome: handsome men find it incredibly difficult to get over rejection or what they see as the incompetence of people to appreciate their beauty in all its splendor. When you tell a handsome man that you're not into him, there's this moment of total incredulity that is plastered all across his face: he cannot believe you're saying NO to HIM. They end up believing their own hype. That's one of the deadly sins, honey.

I think that's what happened to Dahlia. It's undeniable that she's a very, very pretty queen. she should be used to praise being heaped on her on a nightly basis. Her transformation from handsome young man into stunning young woman is remarkable. Her makeup skills are undeniable. Her style is sexy and sophisticated. Her name is a combo of pretty and dangerous. She did not see herself being eliminated first in a contest where she obviously thought other queens were meant to go before she did.

But believing their own hype is a problem I see everyday, especially in handsome men who live their lives online: they relay so much on their physical beauty that they're blind and deaf to anything that is not related to it. In the current world of social media, every 'like' to a picture someone posts is one notch more in the validation scale of their self-value. People nowadays have this overblown sense of themselves that relies on the validation they get online from other people. Of course, the online lives they are presenting are curated to an inch of their existence (from facetune to apps that cinch a waist and blow a bicep at will) and do not represent who they really are. Nobody is that perfect.

So I think that's why it was so difficult for Dahlia to take her defeat in a way that would help her get over it in a smoother way. She's grown her base online, gathering 'likes' like there's no tomorrow. But she forgot she was on RPDR and not on Twitter or IG. RPDR's a contest, after all. One queen was going to leave and the lip synch they did was almost a double sashay (we've seen those). What saved the Doll was that she actually remembered the rap lyrics in the Ariana/Iggy song. Dahlia basically looked pretty. And I think it was because she took her being in the bottom as a rejection and could not deal with that reality.

That's why it is important to always have something to offer more than just 'pretty'. That's why I think that a sense of humor is essential: it helps you deal with situations when we may find ourselves depending on our wit to deal with rejection or pain or anger. If we cannot laugh at ourselves..... and all that jazz.

So yeah, Dahlia is a pretty boy and a pretty girl. There's no denying that fact. She better gets her act together and starts working on a sense of humor and a sense of self away from a mirror. Because honey, beauty is only skin deep. And if you want to hear somebody offering Dahlia a reality check, drop by Maddie's blog. She let her HAVE IT. And it gave me life.

And here's Dahlia. In all her glory. The queen is dead. Long live the queen.

  1. Her exit was really stupid.
    She wasn't ALL that.
I don't think Ru will invite her back.

    1. She was a brat and lost a great opportunity.
It does make you wonder if Ru does have that tingly sense that makes her say 'shante you stay'. I don't think she'll be back either. Much more deserving queens still in the race.

  2. 100% right on. I've dealt with guys like that - they do have trouble in life when their looks aren't enough. Poor babies....
Happy St. Patrick's Day. Since we are all shuttered in our domiciles, we may as well make the best of it. Have all the green beer you want. (And, remember, masturbation may help boost your immune system!) xoxo

    1. It's uncanny how often this happens. It's incredibly difficult for people to understand that there needs to be talent to back up the looks.
Happy St. Patrick's!! And no, I did not have green beer but I did masturbate!
      Yay for my immune system!!

    2. Beer is optional, of course. It's the immune-boosting jerking off that shouldn't be! LOL.

    3. Haha. I'm not good with beer. Too bitter.
And I've discovered very good things about masturbating now that it's become an imperative.... Silver lining.

    1. Neither was I. As I mentioned, I thought she was gonna kill it in the lip synch. After all, the Doll is French! And she did better IN THE RAP.

  4. I won't mince words...she is known to have a terrible attitude and thinks her shit doesn't stink. I also feel when I see her , I need to take a very hot bath. Sadly she is yet another cookie cutter who will turn a look, but no talents to back it up. Didn't surprise me in the slightest she was the first one gone. I said she would in this batch

    1. Oh, Maddie. You did say that. Prescient!
And you have the advantage of having seen her live. Sad, that some queens think that turning a look is all it takes. No, hunny. Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent FTW.

  5. Haven't seen the episode but, I do love that song, though! :)

You'll be right there with Ru.
And that's an awesome song! The PSB ruled the world.
