Tangled up

Fabio Da Motta takes awesome photographs that run the gamut from editorial photography to very conventional portraiture. He also takes photos that include two of my favorite things: naked men and flowers. Yeah. It's true. I really like flowers. Oh, and soft bondage. And Da Motta, a Brazilian photographer, works what I consider a very fine line between kink and erotica very well. I think his photos broaden the understanding that people may have of what it means to be kinky.

His bondage pictures are very 'of the day' while keeping the idea of restraint as arousal. I am not a professional kinkster, mind you. I do not know the rules of BDSM or practice it very often. The closest I have gotten to it is a little bit of power play and some tying up.  But I really like Da Motta's photos because they represent a more accessible way to look at bondage. I think he says it better himself:

My inspiration comes from my daily life, the environment I live in, the things I see. My use of color, flowers and other materials is a way to soften the bondage, emphasizing its beauty instead of the more aggressive aspects of immobilizing another human being.

I have never gone full-on BDSM, mind you, but I did have a close encounter of the third kind with somebody who was very much into it. Years ago I dated someone who really liked it, and trying to be GGG, I let him tie me up. He was a six-feet-five teddy bear of a man in his thirties with shoulder length hair and pretty green eyes. He practiced his Shibari with me many times and I actually enjoyed it very much, thank you. I think there's something really charged and erotic in the act of letting go of control, even for a short period of time. And I like being manhandled a little.

I have not let anybody tie me up lately and I don't know if I'm ready to do that. Especially not now, when we have no idea when this sheltering in place will end. You see, in order to let someone tie me up, I really need to trust him. As in REALLY trust him. Bondage is very tricky. It's not all Fifty-Shades-of-Bullshit-like. It has its rituals and prerequisites. It requires a very good connection with whomever you are tying up or whomever is tying you up. It's very intimate and very sensual. It's also sweaty and hot and urgent, of course. But that's part of the game.

What I liked about these photographs is that they make the act of being tied up seem quite...  natural? less gay-leather-bar backroom (which is hot in its own way) and more quotidian, accessible, without losing its edge. I know it's not something that everybody finds attractive or sexy or doable. I am talking from my experience, and everybody's is different. I think BDSM needs you to be in a very safe space and most importantly, for you to know that your Safe Word will be heard. You don't want to have a Cruising experience and end up meeting Mr Goodbar

Stay loose.

  2. This is really an art form unto itself. The intricate knots and colorful ropes. I’ve never really dabbled in BDSM but have done some VERY light bondage with a certain someone. And you get a sense of power in the moment. And there is a trust that is required in that relationship.

Now for the picture, the composition is beautiful. And it is all very erotic. And the men...yes very sensual.

    1. I thought the pics were really pretty. And definitely sensual. More sensual than sexual, to tell you the truth. They're much more effective that way.

  3. I can't come to the phone right now, I'm tied up!
Maybe when I was younger I would have tried that with someone I really trusted but not now. I can't tell you how many times I got into trouble when I showed up at work dressed like that.

  5. The only one which disturbs me is the taped eyes with the red - reminding me of blood. I suppose that's the point. The others really are quite beautiful. Fifty-shades-of-crap. Ugh! I couldn't read more than the opening page it was so poorly written, never mind the faulty depiction of BDSM.
Aha! Another film we both know.... "You're going to jack off for us, and when you're done, if your balls don't float, you're our main man." Yikes! If that film didn't scare you...well, it should've at least made you think. Hugs.

    1. I didn't see the read as blood. It's part of a series that emphasizes sight deprivation (more power play). And I could not deal with that awful facsimile of fanfic. Barf. And they made movies out of it! An abomination.
And Cruising is seminal, both because it was so controversial and because it talked about a topic that America has always obsessed: gay men having sex. There were protests and all... And that movie made me weary of one night stands, TBO. It's hard to watch, even now.

  7. The first thing that came to mind when I saw the photos was; what a great way to show BDSM. It is the balance of hard and soft, pain and pleasure, punishment then reward that makes it beautiful experience. The porn sites show the pain side and rarely show the soft, loving side that heightens the sex.

As beautiful as the photos are, torture for me would be having lilacs shoved in my face for a couple of hours. lololol

    Great post sexy six!

    1. Absolutely!
I thought exactly the same thing. It's the contrast between the restraining and negation of autonomy and the loving sensuality of urgent sex what makes BDSM what it is. The after care is as important as the main event.

And I am sure the flowers were decorative. LOL
And of course a good Master would think about the best way to torture you, while making it pretty....

  9. I am racking my brain and I believe I had a one-night stand that had a little bondage action. The gal was trying to dominate me and yelling at me and I was too busy laughing. It didn't end well for yours truly. But at this point in my life, if Mrs. Shife said I want to tie you up and whip your butt then I am down.

    1. Ohhhh really?
Bet she was not every experienced. A good Mistress would had have you begging for more. And I think one day, as a treat, you should let Mrs. Shife call the shots and give your butt a workout. Bet you'd both enjoy it...
