Black is the new Black

EXPLAINED

I hope this post finds you well. I hope that video (who many of you may have already watched) gave you some background and that it helps explain in part what it is that is happening in the country at this moment and where it may be coming from. It may not explain why the 45th president of the USA is being openly racist on social media or why so many black people are reacting to the killing of other black people the way they are reacting, but it may open your eyes to something you may have not thought about before.

Given the race climate we are living in this country at this time, I think it's necessary to do some soul searching. But I am not going to pontificate. I am not going to ask you again to check your privilege. I know I'm preaching to the choir here. All I'm going to ask you is to to try to start being anti-racist. Because not being racist is NOT enough anymore. It really is not enough. Not at this point. I'd rather ask you to practice an intersectional analysis of racism.

HOWTOBE
ANANTIRACIST

Practice an intersectional analysis of racism. “It’s nearly impossible to be an antiracist and not also be a feminist. It’s very difficult to be an antiracist and simultaneously be an elitist. It’s pretty much impossible to be an antiracist and also be homophobic,” Kendi says. In other words, racist thinking doesn’t have to apply to race — it can be racialized thinking that justifies prejudice against all manner of identities.
“What I’m saying ultimately is that when you think about antiracism, you should think not just about equality between racial groups — you should also think about equality between all of the racialized groups within your race and without.”

Now repeat after me: Black Lives Matter.

  1. Black lives do matter. For far too long this country has profited on the backs of the poor and the majority of the poor are people of color. Look at who the “essential” workers are during this pandemic. The great majority are minimum wage workers. They sacrifice their health so we can satisfy our needs. They are the ones cleaning buildings, providing public transportation, etc.

It was telling in that video how a black and white college graduate with similar jobs and income spent their money. The black graduate had so many other people in the family asking for help that they provided.

Racial equality is not enough. Economic equality is urgently needed.

    1. That video opened my eyes to many things. This is not something that happened due to the death of George Floyd. This happened after centuries of fuckery.

  2. nothing has changed for PoC; racism is alive and well and encouraged by the orange shitstain. I feel like the summer of 68 is about to repeat itself.

    1. Sad but true.
Cheeto only made racism more openly accepted, being the racist pig he is. The Summer of 68 is a good comparison. Ugh.

  3. It'sup to white America to end this because we're the ones doing it. So, when you hear a racist comment or word coming from anyone, shut it down.
Speak up, shine alight on hate, and shut it down.

    1. OMG yes.
Not being racist is not enough anymore. Racism needs to be dragged as soon as it appears. Really. Having uncomfortable conversations is necessary.

    1. True.
Racism provided America with the advantages it needed to become a First World country. That cannot be erased.

  5. My guts are just knotted from the turmoil. I loved what Trevor Noah put on Youtube. It is worth a watch as it smacked of what a young Louis Farrakhan said back in the early 1980's. #BlackLivesMatter

    1. Oh, Jimmy. Same.
Trevor Noah (and many Late Night Show hosts) has been the voice of reason for awhile. Isn't that depressing? Late Night comics make more sense than the president of the United States. Well, anybody makes more sense than IMPOTUS.

  6. We've watched this all unfold and it has made me feel lost, helpless and, sadly, very hopeless. There are plenty of ethnic groups represented in the protests. This has been lurking in the underbelly of this country since the first group of black people were herded off the boat in chains. Did you know that yesterday marked the 99th Anniversary of the Oklahoma massacre?
You're correct, though: It's prejudice against anyone considered "different." 45 has brought it (once again) to the forefront, lifted it out of the shadows.
This time, however, we need to stop it instead of simply forcing it to go underground again.

    1. It IS completely disheartening. And scary. And worrying.
When a country's fortune has been built in the de-humanization of a whole race, this situation was going to happen sooner or later. People of all ethnicities are getting together to protest inhumanity. OMG I forgot about the Black Wall Street Massacre. Ugh.
Twitler is the racist in Chief and he needs to be kicked out. And his racist followers dragged for their racism. As soon as possible.

  8. I avoided the internet all weekend. I just couldn't and wasn't it the mood, between the riots, watching and getting pictures from friends from philly watching the destruction, and the relaxation of covid I was way past , way past melancholic. Plus there were other issues that had me fired up. This country is just disgusting., especially since no leadership is taking the reins to direct anyone. So were stuck with policemen dealing with the riot's which could get worst. And let's face, the police force needs a MAJOR overhaul from the top down. And don't get me started on all the spoiled ass rich asses in Hollywood. What a bunch of useless mouth pieces Where are they?

    1. Oh, so many things happening at once. As if a pandemic weren't enough. As if IMPOTUS's fuckery were not enough. As if making sense of our lives weren't enough. Police brutality is a fact that needs to be dealt with, you're right. But with Cheeto pushing for a military takeover, I don't see that happening too soon.

  9. There are a whole lot of white people who have no idea what racism is, not all of them mind you, mostly Republicans and White Evangelicals. They are going to learn, because is about 23 years they are going to be the minority group.

    1. Oh, white people rejoice in their privilege and do not want to know about anybody's problems. That's why they're so outraged with 'the blacks' and anybody who is not 'like them'.
White resentment. It's a hell of a drug.

  10. I heard that there is a revolution going on in the USA and that your current POTUS has taken refuge in the bunker under the White House. All this does not really bring luck to those besieged: the assault on Versailles (5 October 1789) and the Winter Palace (October 1917) were the beginning of the end!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yep, Twitler ran to the bunker. Just like Adolf.
And then came out and tried to project strength by gassing peaceful protesters in order to have a photo op in front of a hurriedly emptied out church with an upside down, front backwards bible.
I hope this is the beginning of the end of the Cheeto presidency.
