The Daily Record

Much has come to light after hordes of racist white nationalists, following months and months of incitement from conservative politicians, broke into government offices causing panic and carried out what is today considered a coup. Oh, you think I'm talking about the Capitol riot? The latest national disgrace promoted and encouraged by IMPOTUS2 and assorted Repugs? Think again. I'm talking about 1898, when white nationalists destroyed Black-owned businesses, assassinated Black residents and unseated a coalition of black and white politicians.  Yeah, it's happened before, right here, in the United States.

You see, this is the kind of history that white people do not want to be talked about in classrooms and living rooms in North America. The idea that white nationalism is a Trumpian phenomenon is false. It's always been here. White nationalism can be as insidious as voter suppression, that works at state level, and as violent as the Capitol siege. And it needs to be stopped. That's why these coming elections Democrats have to be very watchful. It would not be the first time that right wing conservatives steal an election. They tried it with Cheeto and they will try it again.

White Nationalism, born in the USA, is nothing new. It's part of American culture and now it's a global threat. And they're still recruiting.  And for those who bring up the strawman argument of ‘but the Repugs were pro-Black’. In the 1890s the Repugs were not who they are today. Neither were the Democrats:

  1. White people wanna make history as the one who ended slavery ... you know, when they stopped buying slaves.
This is what happens when you let only white people write the history books.

    1. White people still refuse to recognize entitlement and privilege, because recognizing them implies recognizing their origins. And here's where we see why those Repugs refuse to include a perspective that is different to theirs in history books.

  2. Thus we need Black History Month, amiright? The base truth is that it has never stopped. It has only gone underground for a while. Imagine the chagrin of millions of white folk when they find out that some of the things they take for granted were invented by Black people. The white nationalists have so much fear bottled up inside; fear of being the minority; fear of becoming the impoverished; fear of being the ruled rather than the ruler. XOXO

    1. Absolutely. There is nothing post-racial about America. BHM is more necessary than ever, because the erasure Black people suffer is continuous. White nationalists thrive in and need fear. And grievance. Don't forget grievance. They fear becoming what they are.

    2. We love watching "Finding Your Roots" on PBS. Last night: Clint Black and Roseanne Cash. Turns out, they **both** have Africa-American DNA. Roseanne from BOTH sides of the family tree. This is the thing the White Nationalists don't realize: The thing they hate, the thing they fear: They are. XOXO

    3. Yes!
Those are the kind of programs white nationalists abhor, of course. They don't want to be reminded that the world is literally NOT black and white.

  3. Unfortunately I’m sitting here at the polling place as an election judge and can’t watch the videos until later tonight. But you’re right, it never goes away, just slinks away into the shadows or into the sewers, waiting for the right moment. This is why we need to be vigilant, and educate, and speak out. No one is better than anyone else. No one.

    1. Oh, Cheeto's open racism was just a manifestation of that underlying racism that has afflicted this country for three hundred years. This is why those racists need to be voted out. Remember, IMPOTUS2's voters are still out there...

  4. I wish it was all known and acknowledged... as in, required knowledge. People skate by on their ignorance and get to pretend that this country is founded on the blood of others. This country is the greatest grift, merciless. We've never been held accountable. We never take responsibility. We never admit or own the many wrongs we have committed. We are guilty of genocide. We are guilty of kidnapping. We are guilty of the destruction of cultures and lives. No wonder people in Europe dislike us so much. We should be ashamed, and instead, we are arrogant. Thanks for sharing this. I wish more people would wake up to the tragedy that is this country.

    1. Oh, Upton.
But it's not. It's not known and it's not acknowledged. People LIKE being ignorant of the things that make them uncomfortable. Or accountable. That's why these things are not part of the history curriculum in schools. This is why the Repugs refuse to include Black history in schools. Their arrogance -and privilege- really show.

  5. "Happy viewing". Are you fucking kidding me? I spent my entire adult working life in North Carolina. I'm shocked and then I'm not. We lived in the most liberal county of NC and our little town's leading members were LGBT and mixed racial representation. The farther east you went , towards Wilmington the more race (and anti-gay) came into play. Wilmington is a center for Repugs and racists.
My husband was born 40 miles from Wilmington. Though he is not racist due to education and enlightenment, his family uses terms that surpass the "n" word in vulgarity. What was the twist of the dagger is, it came from what was considered good Christians....Evangelicals.
On another note, I just unfollowed a 'dick' blog because someone used a Confederate flag as an avatar in the followers section. I couldn't believe my eyes. There was no other choice but to exit, and I let it be known in a comment to the blog owner.
Also, what happened to black people in NC, 1898, could happen today not only to those of color but to LGBT folks with an eight year run of someone like "the other guy" and Pence . In Gods name of course.

    1. North Carolina is a cesspool of racism. It was racist three hundred years ago and it's racist today. The tiny blue spots in that sea of red bigotry are more evident each day. Some gay men move there to 'change it from within. Good luck with that. It's gonna take awhile.
And I feel you with unfollowing that dick blog. I would have done exactly the same.
And you are right, LGBTQ people are way too comfortable with the Repugs. Marriage equality should not be taken for granted.

  6. To be truthful, white racism began Europeans set foot in the New World with their treatment of it's brown skinned native inhabitants.

    1. Oh, of course.
But that time white people tried to kill them all to make a grab for the land. With slavery they used them to create wealth. Two sides of the same entitled coin.

  7. You will see that, in a couple of generations, racist wasps will be greatly reduced, simply because the "others" will be the majority, not only in America, but all over the world. I believe that already around 2050, these problems will be overcome by numbers. In 2100 speaking of racism will be like speaking today of the power held by the blood aristocracy, before the French Revolution. Today the blood aristocrats, who still exist, no longer hold any power. They are relics of the past, born in a feudal system that ended definitively in the nineteenth century.

    1. Oh, it can not come soon enough.
There is a resistance from white people to assimilate other cultures and ethnicities that come from fear and privilege and that's really difficult to eradicate. Your analogy with aristocracy touches on privilege, but not on the fear of being outnumbered. That is why white nationalists thrive with a sense of superiority.

    2. It will take some time, but, as I repeat, it's a matter of 3/4 generations. I am optimistic about the result, but not so much about the time required.
