Manu and Javi

First, Frida!

Second, damn! Those South Americans are pretty.

Third, I want that apartment.

Yes, I do. I think that there are very few things that make you bond with your man than starting and completing a project together. It teaches you how to negotiate, how to discuss things and how to reach a consensus. And I should know, taking into account how fucking stubborn I am. I've learned a thing or three about my men while completing projects together.  I have put furniture together with my men and I have gone and bought new cars with them. I have helped decorate their houses and they have helped me paint and organize mine. But I've never done a whole-house reno. I think it should be interesting. And it should tell you things about your relationship.

I'm so used to having my own place and having my own space by now that it should be interesting to see how I negotiate things with another man. Especially when finding a place to live together. Manu and Javi had to see ten apartments before they chose this one. And the thing is, I totally believe them. I have heard that Buenos Aires does have that European feel but the urban landscape is chaotic and the apartments tend to be on the small-ish side. Buenos Aires is beautiful, but it grew with very little planning. There's much better planning in Rio de Janeiro, for example.

But back to their house.  I think that their opening up the space was a great idea, BTW. The DIY approach surely is genius and helped them with their budget but I think that googling the how-to-s was a risk. I would freak out completely. It payed well for them, but I'm too much of a control freak to let anything to chance. I'd hire someone for the big things. I'd probably electrocute myself. Not to mention that leaving me alone with a sledgehammer could be harmful to the environment. I like the idea of getting affordable furniture first and then decide on what's missing and I love the idea of getting accessories in places that mean something to ourselves. That red stove is fantastic! And the dining room table! Dear.

I love the outside garden, too. And their plants. I agree with them, plants provide a peaceful, natural vibe to any home. And I'm sure they'll find something to do even when they're done with all their projects in the house. There's always something to do at my place, btw. I cannot imagine ever having to hang the hammer and the nails. And then there's the garden...

XOXO

  1. The place is beautiful. Excellent job and use of space. "EEEK!" No. The wood stove on a wood floor? No!!! Tile underneath, guys. And, for cryin' out loud, don't rest the bag of dog food on it - especially when it's burning. And it was burning, or were the small flames my imagination? But, that turntable, though! Right? XOXO

    1. Hahaha Oh, Big.
I agree with the stove comment. Didn't think about it when I watched the video.
      Yes to the turntable!!!

  2. We live in the same size space. Maybe a little bigger but not much. I won't touch it to change. The wood is too valuable and irreplaceable. That said, a lot of people could not live as we do. Storage is an issue.

    1. Oh, but your house should not be touched. Its charm is its originality.
This apartment, though, benefitted from the remodel.
Storage is always an issue, Jimmy. Always.

  3. Having rehabbed nine houses with the same man, I can tell you... don't do it. LOL It will take a toll on your relationship, for sure. It was a lot of very hard work and long hours. At this point in my life, I can't imagine going through all that again. It did teach me about the importance of collaboration and that my instincts are not always right. But, it did wear on our relationship... which is why, once the dust settled (literally) and we tried to just be a couple there was too much blood under the bridge and we both felt chafed by the other. That's my two cents. :) Have a happy.

    1. OMG Upton!
      NINE houses? Whoa.
But I can imagine it can be super difficult and that the arguments over silly things when remodeling a house can totally color other interactions.... If we sometimes argue about where we want to go for dinner...

  5. Two things to learn here. 1- South American men are the most gorgeous MEN!!!!!!

2- Having been to Buenos Aires...it was hands down my most favorite trip I've ever took. It was not planned well, but that's why I love it. Feels very old world...with spectacular architecture mixed with real old and new together. And peoples apartments look so much more different then we know them. But best of all, what a explosion and intake of culture....It's already on the bucket list for a return trip.

ps. I caught a small glimpse of the bed. Knowing how SA'S are in bed, Im surprised they don't have a bigger bed.

      I agree!
I studied with people from Buenos Aires and they swear by it. It's in my Bucket List too.
And yep. South Americans do need bigger beds.

  7. The outdoor space is awesome. I could live with that. However, I just imagine Ms. Frizzle stinking it up with her dumps. Thanks for sharing, Sixpence. Have a fabulous weekend.

  8. Very nice. 860 sq feet is actually a lot of space once you take at the walls. I love their floor.

    1. It is a very nice space.
And the taking down the walls was indeed a good idea. Especially in this kind of apartment.
The floor probably took a lot of time!

  9. First off I know how sexy South American men can be 😉. And these guys are hot.

Now this is an amazing small space. And I can’t believe they took out those walls without being professionals. With my luck I’d take out a load bearing wall and bring down the entire apartment building. I love the way they decorated inside and out. And the view is fantastic, too. And created some of the furniture, too. Kudos to them.

And the space is actually not that small, taking into account that's in the middle of Buenos Aires. Think space in New York.
And their grabbing the sledgehammer and YouTube would have left me in shock.
But the place is super cute!

  10. Omg...the negotiations of even deciding what to cook for dinner. But I have learned how to bend and I've learned when to stand my ground. And it does make a difference in our relationship.
