Difficult conversations
Oh, so you would like to learn to talk to your relatives/friends/coworkers about the bigoted, racist, xenophobic malignant narcissist in the White House and his followers (it's a cult, hunty) without losing your mind? Do conversations about race and the White Supremacist threat we are all facing even after Agolf Twitler ends his reign of corruption and racist rants daunt you? Do you still think America is Post-Racist and that's why you don't engage with one of the seventy million people who voted for IMPOTUS?
If the idea of talking to one of COVFEFE-19's pleasantly racist followers during the Holidays (Thanksgiving is here and Xmas follows) gives you the hives (it does to me, too, mind you) I have right here some resources that could help you start a convo and just kind of bludgeon them with the truth. I know, I know. It's like talking to a fucking wall, but it'll give YOU the pleasure of coming up with facts, not with the conspiracy theories (Ã la Sidney Powell, natch) that they sprout at the least provocation.
So, get your cursor and prepare for a quick course on how to talk to your friendly racist. It won't be easy, but it'll make you feel better, I promise:
The Ugly Truth: Everyone Wants An Anti-Racist Workplace, But No One Wants To Speak Up. This one is good because we all work with/around racist people.
How to be anti-racist: Speak out in your own circles. Remember, the people around you may listen to you more than to the news. Fox News ate their brain. |

Racism, white privilege: How to talk to your family, friends about it. Because white privilege DOES exist, honey. |
Jackie Venson: Speak up; don't let this fight against racism die. The conversations about racism did not die with IMPOTUS leaving the White House. They've just started. Twitler was the symptom, not the cause. |
How white people can engage difficult conversations about race. BIPOC do not need to talk about racism. They suffer it. | Boston.com
Don't Underestimate the Power of Your Voice. There may be something you can do and it's your obligation with yourself to speak up. |
Recommendations for how white allies can truly support Black people and their communities. Because Black people may have saved this election, even though the Repugs did EVERYTHING they could to silence their voice. |
Remember, SEVENTY+ MILLION people voted for the Racist in Chief. And the next populist may not be as inept and as openly narcissistic as Cheetolini. Be prepared. Be aware.
XOXO
P.S. if it’s conspiracy theories, I’ve got you covered, too.
All great resources babe. You’re right we have to make the attempt to save them from themselves. I know my brother’s in-laws have been sucked in by Faux “News.” The only break they take is when the actual news segments come on. 🙄
ReplyDeleteIt’s not easy to sway someone who refuses to listen to actual facts. Just look at the woman the the first gif. They have been told there’s something called “alternative facts” that better fits the narrative in their head. And these “facts” are pushed by their news source of choice. It’s like weight gain: so easy to put on but hell to take off.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
XOXO 👨❤️💋👨
Yep, you’re right, bae.
DeleteIt’s not easy to sway a MAGAt. And I don’t think that’s possible. But speaking when knowing we have the facts is sooooo rewarding. And I cannot believe his in-laws are lost to the devil that is FN. Pity.
XoXo
Gobsmacked that people like the woman in the GIF exist... what is going on in their heads? How do the navigate through life? They must live at WalMart and watch only Fox News. It takes a lot of discipline and effort to remain so ignorant. And the implied racism in her statements don't even occur to her. SMH. Nice resources. But I won't bother talking to either of my older siblings anymore. They are too far gone. But I do work at enlightening my mother! I challenge her each time she struggles with something, by using history and science and common sense. She is very open to listening. So I am lucky. People evolve! Have a lovely, hon.
ReplyDeleteOh, she probably lives at WalMart and only watches Fox News. It’s what she has chosen. It fits HER vision of the world. Racism and bigotry ran rampant in the US before Hair Furor. They just found a way to be blatant about it.
DeleteAnd I’m glad you’re talking to your mom about these things, even if others in the family are blind and deaf to the facts. Those resources are for us, and for the few that like your mom, listen.
XoXo
I refuse to see/hear/smell/touch MAGAts; not worth my time or energy. FUCK THEM ALL AND MAY THEY DIE OF COVID-19! I have called people out on racism, homophobia, no masks. PS - PM me at girl9654@yahoo.com, I want to discuss something with you.
ReplyDeleteSame!
DeleteI cannot with them. Fuck them all and the horse they rode in. And I know you do give people a piece of your mind LoL I admire you for that.
And I’ll email you!
XoXo
I believe that if someone says something racist, transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic, and you say nothing, you are affirming to them that you agree.
ReplyDeleteSo I always say something because it shuts them down and shuts them up. Sure, they may take their hate somewhere else, but it won't be around me.
Same!
DeleteSilence equals acceptance.
But it is always so very satisfying to shut them down with facts. Even if they go somewhere else with their hatred.
XoXo
We can speak out. And we do. It will shut them up in our presence. But, it's not going away. it will, in fact, get worse with the supremacist and militia groups already looking ahead. We also have the federal Repugs already saying they will stop Biden from getting anything done because he's "just a third Obama term." Then there are the rest of the republicans already sitting in rooms trying to figure out how to succeed at the shit that didn't work this time. They want absolute power because they are afraid of BIPOCs. Why, you may ask? Because they fear the BIPOCs will do to them what they've done to the BIPOCs. XOXO
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good way to assess them Big.
DeleteThey think everybody is the scum they are. I think that Dave has mentioned that some of those people do see the wave of change and they don’t like it. That’s why the want to deny rights to BIPOC. It’s simple and devious.
XoXo
We only have one liberal republican in my whole family so i don't have any issues and they can admit that trump and those gop are ass hats. But with some friends....my middle finger is always more that happy to give a standing ovation. I have a post coming if i get my thoughts together.......
ReplyDeleteOh, you’re lucky.
DeleteBigoted, racist family members can be a burden. Hahahahaha I can imagine you giving those Homocons a piece of your mind....
Get ‘em, girl!
XoXo
We don't discuss politics... well, my brother and I do. I tend to piss him off greatly.
ReplyDeleteLoL
DeleteBet you do. And he gets man probably because he KNOWS you’re right. That’s the thing, they know they’re wrong but recognizing that would kill them.
XoXo
those who think too much about racism, white supremacy and MAGA, are not living a satisfying life or at least don't have enough problems. In both cases, they would have neither the desire nor the time nor the energy to think about this bullshit!
ReplyDeleteRacism, white supremacy and the considerable effects of the MAGA crowd ARE the problems that do not let people live. People in America suffer racism, attacks from white supremacists and the xenophobic attacks from the MAGA crowd. It’s their daily life.
DeleteXoXo
not a rewarding life!
DeleteAbsolutely agree.
DeleteThat’s why people need to talk about them, because they need to be eradicated.
Silence equals death in more than one way.
