Hold the line

I know that everybody in my timeline has said they've voted. Or that they are going to vote. And they are very lucky. Very, very lucky. Because they're able to vote without any kind of problem. Some people in America, though, have seen their right to vote curtailed in many ways by a party that does not want to let them have a voice. Hence the very long lines some states are seeing even in the early voting stage. I don't want to think what things will be tomorrow, Election Day.

And this is nothing new.

"It is important to acknowledge that it has always, or almost for the entire history of our country, been about race, that voter suppression has been inextricably intertwined with an attempt to stop first Black men, and since then other people of color from voting,"

The idea of suppressing the vote of BIPOC is nothing new in this country. It's how the Electoral college is supposed to work. Ever since the slaveholder states decided that black people counted as 3/5 of a person, the game has been rigged so white supremacy stayed intact in this country. the fact that 270 electoral votes are trapped in six states ( Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin) is a travesty of freedom. Cheeto won the 2016 election by a few thousand votes in very key states. Hillary won the popular vote by several million.

This time around, the Repugs are going to try to steal the election AGAIN. Don't believe me? I'll use somebody else's words, then:

As many of us sweat bullets waiting to learn the results of the election on Tuesday, one thing is becoming increasingly obvious is that Donald Trump and the Republican Party will attempt to challenge ballots of non-Trump voters to steal the election if a majority of Americans repudiate Trump - and hopefully, the GOP as well. Expect court challenges and efforts to spin the voter fraud myth to disenfranchise as many voters as possible.

Cheeto told his aides, according to Axios,  that he will declare early victory to make sure that ballots are not counted after election day. How about that as an example of absolute corruption and disregard for how elections work in the United States? So if you already voted, count yourself as lucky, but make sure you either talk to someone about voting (Blue, of course) or take them to the Polls tomorrow. Because you know IMPOTUS and the spineless cunts in the GOP will try to steal this election, too.

XOXO

  1. Tomorrow will be a long day. Working at my voting site from 5:00am until the polls close at 7:00 (or later if people are in line). Then come the tallying and clean up of the site. And the weather is supposed to be nice so there should be a big turn out, though early voting has seen record numbers.

My stomach is already churning. It’s going to be a VERY long week. One filled with turmoil throughout the country. This will be very ugly.

You know your district and it's not prone to surges. It's also very Repug, so I don't foresee any big scrambles. I'm curious about the turnout, though. Keep me posted!

The toddler in chief is going to try to break the toy so no other child can get it. Cheeto is petty like that. It's common in unloved children.

  3. This all makes me so sad... and anxious. The attempt to disenfranchise eligible voters would seem to fly in the face of common sense. If majority rule is how this country is meant to work, then let their voice reign supreme. Old white men with a little power... always a dangerous thing. Throw money into the mix and you create a stew of deception and moral failure. That's not the country I want to live in - one where empathy and fairness are seen as weakness. Let's all hope that there are enough people left who feel the same and send the Repuglicans packing!

    1. It's terrible, Upton.
And it's been going on for decades. It's nothing new, but it flies under the radar because it's so insidious. Empathy and fairness have almost disappeared in the Age of IMPOTUS.
The Repugs have got to GO.

  6. The voter intimidation, voter suppression, voter litigation: Send a letter of thanks to Chief Justice John Roberts, SCOTUS, Washington DC for gutting the Voting Rights Act. I hope that MF and his buddy Clarence Thomas are happy and proud of their work because it is very much on display this year.
Should we be lucky enough to actually win and take both the WH and Congress, there is so much work to be done. Part of that needs to be impeaching some judges who are completely unqualified according to the ABA. Kavanaugh could/should be one of them - he lied during his first confirmation hearing to get on the Circuit Court and that has never been investigated by Congress.
Time for the Dems to stop being "nice." XOXO

    2. When SCOTUS decided we were 'post-racial' and voter protections were not needed, I saw red. The blatant disregard for four hundred years of mistreatment is more than appalling. I am hoping the Dems win and win big. Nothing else will be acceptable enough.
Kavannaugh is a corrupt, drunk, rapist fratboy paid and bought to be in the bench along with that zealot cunt and help Cheeto keep the power.
You two are totally right. The Dems need to stop being 'nice'. Nice does not play well with 'Bully'.

  8. born in 1972, I remember the problems in the 2000 election with Bush. Remember all the problems in recounting? and Florida's pending votes that seemed never to come to an end? do you remember the perforated cards? take a look here.

only one thing can avoid a chaos like that of then twenty years later: a landslide victory for Biden

It's been a pattern for the Repugs. That's why Hair Furor put three justices in SCOTUS: to make sure he stayed in power.

  9. The Electoral college needs to go. I never did understand why or how it's fair. Your vote still counts, but at the same time it some respects doesn't. It's not right that several states shape the country and put someone in office. Every vote should count toward the win...like you said Hillary won by millions of votes, but where did it gets us? It infuriates me . The EC should be broken and tossed out.

If I plan to live a long life, I may have to leave this country.

    1. The Electoral College has always been a racist excuse to keep white supremacy going. The 'swing' states have changed over the years, but the message has stayed: keep BIPOC under control.
Voting still counts, especially at the local level, but the winner should be the person with more votes, period.
And I've also thought I'm going to retire someplace else. It's times like these that I wish I had money, so I could just say 'fuck it all' and pack my shit and go live in Costa Rica or someplace without an army.

  10. Yes, this election has revealed how truly corrupt conservatives and the Republican Party are. They don't want a Democracy, they want a socially conservative dictatorship. They are courting disaster and it will lay into them as they horribly devour themselves.

  11. One of my friends just texted me and asked if my hubby and I already voted. She then followed up with "I will pick you up and drive you there. I will keep you company in a long line and get snacks and food for you while you wait". So sweet. I replied I had already voted, but told her to let me know if anyone needed a ride, someone to stand in the long lines with them etc. Yes, our voices need to be heard.

That's what I've told everybody. That if they have already voted, they needed to help someone who has not done it. I think that Maddie is also volunteering to drive people to and from the polls.
      Everybody needs to vote!
