Oh, Alvin

The one rule is: there are no rules. That's how Alvin Wayne starts the tour of his fab 800 Sq feet apartment (!!) in New York and he goes on to prove it. The whole thing feels lived in, comfy, sexy. I felt totally inspired looking at what he's done to this rental.

As someone who usually has to carve his own space, this kind of tours always brings something. Or it may be some queer gene that leads me to always enjoy somebody showing me his house. As John Gray says, it's ingrained in the GAY. When someone shows what they have done to a rental and have made it look so inviting, so full of personality, I feel like I need fresh flowers, a new plant and a trip to IKEA.

Obviously, I don't have the level of taste that Alvin has, but I love how he appreciates plants and the way he's styled his bedroom. We've all been faced with the 'white box with windows' conundrum and I think his take on renter-friendly wallpaper left me wanting to do something like that! Not to mention that giving furniture different jobs is fundamental (check out the consoles in the dining room!). And I feel him when talking about his mirror. Same! Alvin, come sit by me.

And joy! If you're thinking about getting it, GET IT! That sculpture he got? Yes, please. We are always looking at the things we get and if they bring joy, well, duh!

XOXO

  1. Yes, that's right, it has good taste. But I found something I don't like: look at the carpet at 0.53: I don't like it

    1. Yes, he does.
And I see what you mean. I do not know if that's real or if it's faux. He does not mention it.

  2. “Your home is a love letter to yourself.” You should feel joy in the space you spend so much time in. It should be comfortable for you, not something that you SHOULD have but something you want. But give it some time to mull it over. I think we’ve all been burned by compulsive purchases.

And I totally think you could work with the wallpaper. Even if it’s just an accent wall to bring in some color.

    1. I agree, too.
Especially now that we are spending so much time at home! I try to buy only things that I really want (or need). That way spur of the moment buys do not happen often.
I really liked that wallpaper, too!

  3. Neat space, not huge, but comfortable. When I was moving into my office 12 years ago, my boss gave me a wonderful piece of advice, fill the space with things that make you happy, that remind you why you are here,

    1. Yes, it is super comfy.
And that's a great idea for an office. Offices tend to be kind of sterile. Making yourself at home in your office really helps. And we are all going back to the office in a year or so!

  4. With all that glass and mirror it looks way bigger than 800 sq ft! Very chic and cool.

I was surprised by the size. But he's worked wonders in the space. Super chic.

  5. Nice, good view, but definitely not a home for dogs.

    1. People with dogs, especially big dogs, should not live in 800 sq ft apartments.
      He's wise.

  6. The windows and ceiling height opens the apartment. But what a view! I'll bet it is spectacular at night.
My 'Achilles Heel' was rugs *drools*. Mainly dhurries and needlepoint. There is nothing like spending a whole afternoon in an Oriental carpet store having two hunky guys 'flipping' at stack of 8'x10' rugs for you to peruse. FUN!

    1. The view is fantastic (and this is NY!).
And rugs should never be underestimated. Now that I live in a place with cold floors, rugs have helped me tons to define spaces.
And two manly guys flipping rugs sounds like it should have its own Only Fans...

  7. That chandelier! I need that!! The sculpture - isn't that Augustus Caesar? Bro sure has some money for a place like that in NYC. The place is gorgeous. But...let me at him. I need to slap him upside the head! Sacrilege! Repeated sacrilege! Placing plants **on top** of books? No! Never! Shame and triple shame!!! XOXO

    1. Hahaha yes! Same!
And the sculpture looks like a 3D printing of a Greek statue's head IMHO Poseidon or some other god? I don't know, but it's fantastic.
Hahaha well, he could be excused because the plants look like succulents and are in a plant container? No leakage? LOL

  8. Hon... we've seen pics of your place. You have AMAZEBALL taste. I wish I was as creative as you. Yours is a love palace. As for Alvin. YAAAASSSSS. I want to go to happy hour at Alvin's crib. And play with that beard and kizz him lips. GRRRR. Smack that booty, too! He is cute. And smart. And that view. I would be in a relationship for that view. Love all his choices, though I take issue with the animal stuff. If it's fake? That cool. He does not say. But just like I don't want Bambi staring at me from my living room wall (like I have a living room - gurl, get real), I don't want to be walking on Mr. Moo Moo. Thanks for sharing this. Normally, I watch a bit of this kind of thing and skip... but Mr. Alvin... mmmm. He keep me mesmerized!

      *Blushes* Oh, Upton!
And I would join you in that happy hour in a heartbeat. Alvin looks like lots of fun. Yes. He is cute and smart. Great sense of humor, too. Great combo.
And I think Xersex also noticed the rug. I'm not sure if it's real, but it could be. And I thought the same when I watched the video! Alvin makes it worth your time. And it's pretty!

    2. I don't think the carpet is real leather. In my opinion it's false, but it's ugly nonetheless.

  10. Two things I loved the most. 1- his use of color and texture. And 2- Like myself, with a small place, he proves one can use over-sized furniture in a small place. Adds instant drama.

He rents too which is nice to see and proves, you can still make a rental your place. My landlord has given me carte blanche with my place, with updates and colors, because he knows my background and loves what I've done. He even let me pick the new appliances when he updated them. I myself would never own a home. If I have to pick up and move quickly, I don't want to deal with the process of unloading it, and if something goes wrong, or breaks down, it's fixed or updated for me and with no worries or money out of my pocket. But I have an excellent landlord. I mean, when your dead, you can't take the house with you.

    1. He has fantastic eye. Fantastic.
His bedroom is what I liked most. Well, I also want that neon sign and the console. And the wallpaper. And the sculpture. And... well, you get my drift.
And I've lived in rentals forever. I loved what he's done. It's hard sometimes to make the white box come to life. He's done great.
And you're very lucky. Well, your landlord knows you've got style, so it's in his best interest to have you make the place pretty.
And you are right, we don't take the house with us...

      XOXO
