Beach Buns

My one friend calls people who are at the beach all the time beachwhores and I cackle every time I hear the term. He lives near the beach and his neighborhood is a mess during sunny summer days. But I love the beach. I love the freedom that comes with being almost naked under the sun, but I don't go to the beach as much as I would like to. Funny, isn't it?

It may be because I live in the suburbs and driving to town implies logistics and traveling and I get lost in the details. I don't really enjoy pools, though. It's just not the same to me. I grew up going to the beach and I like the sand and the wind and the sense of open spaces. So when I make it to the lakeshore, nothing spoils the fun. I love to take short walks or lay on a towel and read and chill under the sun. I don't burn easily and I love to just relax and think about nothing. I do prefer little known spots, though. Beaches where there's not many people are my faves. Even though I do enjoy the Osterman beach with all the peacocks prancing up and down,  some of the times I have really enjoyed myself have been when I've been in some nondescript solitary stretch of sand near the Indiana Dunes.

I hope this summer I can make it to the beach more often. Really. I have a square cut I have not worn yet and would love to try it on and see how dark I can get in a day without passing out. It's not a Moschino, mind you, but it'll do.

XOXO

  1. As soon as I saw the word “beach” in the title, I immediately thought of our weekend trysts, I mean trips, to the Dunes. Getting away from everything, spending time in the sun and sand, enjoying the sights 😜. And the little hotel we had on the edge of the woods. Those were some good times.

There’s nothing like spending time by a body of water. It rejuvenates the soul and clears the mind. And if you can spend it with a special body, all the better.

    1. Hahaha
I really enjoyed those times we went to the beach. And that's why I asked you if you remembered when we were there. I almost couldn't find it. Time flies.
And I agree with the need to relax by the water. It always renews me.

  2. I agree with Huntley. Water for me is rejuvenating and I need to live near a body of water for me to get to in minutes. But the beach is a must . In normal times Im a beach bum. Rehoboth, Ptown and sometimes Fire Island. But we also know where the more quite spots are too at these beaches. This summer looks like one trip to Ptown is one the books. Seems weird still for me....i usually live in square cuts in the summer...and sometimes nothing at all. During the pandemic the beach is what I missed the most. But the gang and I might do Fire Island once after Labor Day...a weekend with the whole clan would be a blast...9 gay men in a Beach house...sounds like a reality show to me........

    1. Isn't that true?
I like the lake but I love the beach. There's something about the ocean...
My friends have always told me I have got to make it to Ptown. Everybody I know has been there at least twice. I'll have to plan a trip sometime.
Ohh nine men in a beach house? Fun!

    1. Same.
The thing with public beaches is that even though the view is very nice sometimes, it can get loud and sandy in the blink of an eye.
I'd rather go to a less-visited spot, TBH.

  4. While we don't get to the beach as often as we'd like, I have always lived within an hour of the ocean because every so often, as I like to say, I need to see it to make sure it's still there.
As a kid in Sacramento, we were about an hour from Bodega. Then I went to college in San Francisco, so I was closer. I lived on Maui for a spell, surrounded by the sea, and then did Portland and Miami and now SC.
Years back I applied for a job as a manager of an art gallery in Santa Fe, a town I adore. I went to the interview, loved the people, the job, the town, all of it, but realized I was a day away from the ocean and turned it down. I didn't feel bad about it though because I still had my ocean!

    1. Ohhh nice!
Having the opportunity to go to the beach often is certainly a plus. Living in Maui was probably quite the experience!
And I can see why you didn't take the job in Santa Fe, though.

  6. Nice collection! There are things even **I** would be able to wear. Like the hoodies for cooler beach nights. As you know, I love me the ocean beaches - especially if they're clothing optional! I hope you make it lakeside often this year. You've got about two months left of enjoiyable enough weather. XOXO

    1. I really enjoyed it!
Moschino can be a little loud, but it certainly is happy and colorful. Loved the shoes and the Hawaiian-inspired prints. I have never been to a clothing-optional beach, BTW. Sunning in the nude should be quite the freeing experience, I bet.
And yes, I'll have to do something in these two months...

  7. The beach is magical. Even more magical when it comes with an ocean view. I think my goal is going to visit the ocean once a year with the kids before they head off on their own adventures. So far so good. I think we have taken Kyle to the ocean 6 times and that is about half of his life. Hope you get to the beach as much as you can, Sixpence.

    1. I totally agree.
And visiting the ocean periodically is a fantastic idea! I think you're giving your kids a great informal education, BTW. Being in contact with nature and learning to enjoy it is a gift. And I hope so, too! Love me some time near the shore.

  8. Moschino | Spring Summer 2022 | Menswear is a nice collection for sure.
That model looks familiar to me but I can't remember his name!

  9. Oh, how fun. Love this. Glad I didn't miss it. Thanks for the pic, too... very joyful. You would love the prairie. It' the beach - minus the crowds and water. If you want water, it's just a few steps away. But stagnant lakes don't make me hard. The sun does. As does the shade. And I adore reading under my oak trees, among the tall grass. You don't burn? How nice. I have to watch myself all the time. I don't like the feeling at all - getting too much sun. Love the blue sky and the breezes. The air is cleaner. Thanks for sharing this.
