For those who are a little bit over the whole Drag Race franchise, there's tons of other content to choose from. Yes, I know that for the hardcore fans Drag Race Netherlands has just started, but not all of us have WOW Presents Plus, darling. So I decided to add a little something to the lineup. All in all, Drag performance has become an art form that has escaped the confines of the dreaded Wednesday night slot and has spilled over the world stage. And I’m glad. Mocking gender and gender expectations should be taught in college. I’d take Drag 101 for three credits, for sure.

Now, this video is just an example of what could be considered Drag in Action. For those who really want more than pretty faces, here's a sample of #FilipinoDragExcellence. Social media has brought a boom to Drag performers the world over (and that may be one of its very few winning points). We must remember there's' obviously Drag beyond the content that what we see in America, and these performers give us a glimpse of it. The dolls have got it, IMHO. I will have to say that my favorites are: Eva Le Queen, Bridging, Miss Jade So and Alpha Venti. I'd be happy to pay to watch them perform. The idea that Drag is circumscribed to a set of characteristics kind of defies what drag stands for. Drag is Punk Rock. Drag is gender performance. Drag is irreverence and fun. Just like these performers show us.

So go ahead and enjoy. After all, we all could use some entertainment.

#HAPPYPRIDE

XOXO

  2. We just watched a new one - and for the life of me I can't remember the name. A young dancer (girl) goes to the city to audition for the ballet company and ends up helping to save the local drag club. It was a good film. XOXO

    1. I think I saw that. It was called Dancing Queens and was a Swedish import. The one actor
Claes Malmberg who played Tommy LaDiva played a excellent grand dame.

    2. Maddie is right! I watched it on Netflix. It's a very cute fish-out-of-water story and the reversal of the cisgender girl trying to pass as a man dressed as a woman was very Victor/Victoria. I enjoyed it.

    3. YES!!! That's the one. (Thank you for supplying a title, Maddie!) Loved it. Because of course I would, right? I mean, dancing. XOXO

  3. Well, as you know I love the international version of drag shows more...the Netherlands got off with a huge bang!!!! And Espana impressed me like no other. I have become completely enthralled with Supremme DeDulxe. She is also very personable with DMing on Insta. I will have to move this up the queue to watch since you recommend it. I've heard of it but haven't seen it yet. We need a good lockdown so I can get caught up on things damn it.

    1. I agree.
Drag Race España was super fun and I think Carmen is fantastic. I have also enjoyed the UK and the Netherlands versions a lot (the Down Under one was ok, but hey). And you should check it out (and check the Queens on Insta) it's super fun.

  5. I just watched the 1995 movie Stonewall, where they lip sync to the Shangri-las a lot. It is killer stuff and a very sweet movie. Much better than that white boy revisionistic crap they tried to sell us a few years back. Those Manila queens are fierce. And some old school glamour, too... Loved it. Thanks for sharing sweets. I am going go through that movie list of yours. Kizzes.

    1. Oh, the 2015 whitewashed failure?
Not even worth mentioning. What a waste of time. And those Queens are fantastic. From genderfuck to high glam and everything in between. I thought they were super cool.
And that list is a great starting point! I was surprised to find out there were so many!
Drag has always been here. Now we see it. That's the difference.

    2. OMG... How could we have missed putting "Victor/Victoria" on that list????? XOXO

    3. Victor/Victoria is the bomb!
And they missed it in that list because they are only chronicling movies from the 90's on. Victor/Victoria came out in the eighties... ^_^
