Oh, Drew

I have always tried to have a little corner of the world all for myself. I think it started when I was a teen and got to have my own room. It seemed incredibly liberating to have my own space with my posters, and my books and my music. It was the only place where I could close the door and be myself. Well, it was as private as your room can be when you're fifteen, right?

I've had my own place for a long time. Yes, I've lived with many people but there's always been that corner that it's mine and mine alone that I mold to appear as My Own Private Idaho. But when I was in my twenties I never had a house like the house that Drew has.  Hell, I'd love to have his style now. I really like his high/low approach (as Maddie would say) and I've copied some of his tips (a lamp here, a throw there) but really. I love his aesthetic.

I've followed Drew for awhile now. His YouTube channel is a treasure trove of ideas, tips, and fun DIYs that have inspired more than one little project for me. I think his best bets are the IKEA hacks. Seriously, the things he has done to basic IKEA projects are to be seen to be believed. The Before/After moments are to die for. That's why today his is place the one I'm featuring here. I can't believe some of the stuff he's made. Trust me, seeing is believing.

XOXO

I love my IKEA but the hacks people do with their pieces are fantastic!

  2. I see why you enjoy him: to paraphrase Jan Brady, “IKEA, IKEA, IKEA!”

What he has done to every space in this apartment is amazing. I love his taste and wouldn’t change a thing. It is a little unsettling that he wore the same shirt in his move in video that he wore for this one. But he has kept every space light and airy, which is something that I like.

I do love me my IKEA. And he's done a great job. As a good vlogger, he used his moving to this new place as an excuse to do one and a thousand projects. He's got great taste and yes, the light in that place is fab.

  3. Too much of a Simplesafe Informercial. Some of the apartment is nice, color palettes nice, but way too much clutter. Dusting must take days.

      This ginger is fabulous!

    2. Oh, but most YouTubers have sponsored posts.
That's how he can afford that apartment in LA, natch. And his style is pretty sparse, though. Very CB2 meets Room and Board. Not very cluttered. You should have been thinking about other post.

    3. More than anything else, keeping such a house tidy and clean is a job (or you need someone to help you).

    4. But it's a two bedroom!
That's not too big. Try a three bedroom, two and a half bathroom and a basement. That's some dusting/ cleaning job.

No, I don't think he does. Pets can ruin anything.

    2. that's not entirely true! my dog is very calm and does not cause problems, except to lose hair, of course.

    3. Ahhh well trained pets, yes.
And I'm torn. I don't know what's worse: cats or dogs.

  5. Nice. It sure is big. I like what he's done, except for the curtains over the glass shower doors. "Don't close me in!" Why would he think it odd to not have overhead lighting in a living space? No. Table and floor lamps have been typical no matter what part of the country I've lived. LOL. I do, however, have one question: Who is Marie???? XOXO

    1. It's a very nice apartment, that's for sure.
Love the space. And I have to say that I liked the idea of the curtain in the bathroom. It softens those glass shower doors. And notice he does have different kinds of lighting. And Marie is his roomie! LOL

  6. I think of all the videos you have featured , this is one of the best. It is most like my style...and one that us working class can aspire too and is obtainable. And can I talk about the hard on I got from that kitchen wallpaper of the lemons? LOVE IT! When I first moved out on my own, I couldn't afford a head board and foot board right away away, so I went to a architectural savage place and bought one of those fireplace mantels and the mirror above the mantel piece and it had columns on it too. It was all one piece. I anchored it the wall, and then had my bedframe pushed up against it. And the mantel housed vases and candleholders. I loved it. I wish now I had kept it. Great choice this week with the video. It's something we can all do in our homes. I loved the bathroom too, nice and dark. I have chocolate brown walls in mine.

    1. OMG yes!
It's affordable design all the way through. He does have some expensive pieces (that sofa was not cheap) but he mixes in IKEA hacks and Target and thrift finds in. That wallpaper? Absolutely fabulous, I agree.
And I've always wanted to go to one of those places where you can buy what they have salvaged in demos and buy a fireplace mantel! They add so much character!
I also love his bathroom. He treated it as another room and it's fab.

  7. What a little cutie. He's had too much coffee, but a sweetie all the same. His place? It's lovely. But I couldn't live there. It is too careful. It is too much like a staged house. Are there any videos where clueless people reveal how disgusting they live? Because... let's face it - this is not reality. Reality? Is that burnt out mouse you meant to throw away weeks ago, but there it sits, next to your Spongebob Alarm Clock, which you got as a joke, but now, the person you bought it with doesn't speak to you anymore, so you can't part with it. Above all that? The watercolor you overpaid for at an auction which you may or may not like, but you paid good money for it and... etc. That's reality. Yeah. I'm a realist. If something doesn't have a function? And life is too short to dust! Kizzes.

Yes, he's very talkative. And you have not seen him in a hacking tutorial yet. And I love the apartment. I find it very homey but stylish. I cannot deal well with disorganization (you've seen my place).
Hahaha I just imagined you pondering where to put the burnt mouse while deciding if the SpongeBob alarm clock needs batteries.

  8. I don't really have taste when it comes to putting a room together. My partner (RIP) did not either, and so we just bought furniture that we thought would be functional, never really decorating or putting a room together. I don't think I have the knack for it. Although, when I see a well decorated room in another home, I think wow, that works and looks nice--the only thing I could do or would do is try to mimic it in my own home.

    1. Oh, but that's what we all do.
We put things together at home inspired by what we see professionals do! I don't think Drew has a degree in interior design, he just puts things together and they happen to look nice. And you are right, when we see something pretty, we can appreciate it.

      XOXO
