But looking at bad examples makes us realize what we can do to improve a little, no?

We must remember that dishonest politicians are scandalous, but that for the most part, they are politicians elected by a large part of the electorate. This is the real scandal.

Gerrymandering is one of the last ditch efforts for a minority group to take control. Simple genetics will cause their laws to fail. Science beats faith.

Spells it out perfectly. As you saw Beto is running for governor in Texas. He faces an uphill battle with the newly gerrymandered districts, though I don’t THINK that will have as big an impact on state elections as federal. I’m thinking the popular vote will win a statewide race.
ReplyDeleteAnd gerrymandering isn’t a uniquely repug tool. Here in Illinois the dem controlled state legislature uses it to their advantage. Redistricting needs to be put into the hands of non-partisan committees to fairly draw election maps. But I think, as a country we’re a far cry from that.

The problem with gerrymandering is that it is endemic to the way politics are practiced in America: the way election maps work is flawed because they come from a flawed, racist point of view.

And THIS is a VERY IMPORTANT battle. Passing the FTPA is the only thing that is going to stop the Rethugs from taking over in 2022.
