Falling Away

I have not bought a stitch of clothing in more than a year. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. I have not been to my usual hangouts (Zara, H&M, thrift stores) at all. No sale, no discount, no tantalizing new product has made me go to the stores since the pandemic hit. But I'm going back to my office in the Spring and I'm wondering if I will even fit in my pants.

Kidding. I know I will fit (I'd HAVE a fit if I didn't, trust me) but after more than a year and half of comfy clothes (I kind of dress up a little from the waist up, It's Zoom time all the time!) and sneakers, I'm wondering how'd feel to get back into work clothes and, well, go back to the office.

Marcel always offers good inspo (and I really, really enjoy him in all his long-legged, shirtless glory, natch) and some of the things he suggests sound and look quite comfy AND stylish. I also kind of like this palette he offers as 'Earth Tone'. It looks easy on the eye and you can basically combine everything with everything and it'd end up looking nice.

I think I'll try this 'palette' for November and december. I've promised I'm going to be at a family gathering and there's some trepidation on my part. I got the booster, counting on going back to the office in the Spring, and that kind of makes me feel a little bit better (better safe than sorry, right?) because there may be some people at the family gathering that are afraid of Bill Gates tracking them or their house keys sticking to their arm. I know, Not something I expected either.

In any case, I'll try something like the mid-length coat (would love the long one, though) with some comfy top. And no, Dave, I'm not talking about you. I'm talking about some kind of sweater in earth tones. Let's hope it's fun.

XOXO

  1. Now this is right up my alley!!!!! That whole video could be me up there modeling!!!!! And is probably what most of my closet is. When I was laid off, I luckily didn't worry much about gaining weight, because of my daily 5 mile walks/jogs....and I haven't been shopping yet either. I have had no desire to go near a mall or clothing shop. First I really don't want for anything since I have a double closet of clothes, some still with the tags on. I have started dressing up again, with layering, sweaters, turtlenecks, my favorite, and shirt with bow ties. When I'm not at the shop, my friend says people wonder where the dapper dresser is, and one lady I pass on the street calls me diva. Makes me laugh. But this palette is classic, like neutrals always in style in my opinion. YAY to earthtones!!!!!! But I do own sweats, only around the house... but my one friend says I shouldn't wear them out...Id cause a stir. If I dress down to go out, say to the store for food, I wear more a athleisure look.

    1. And your comment about "basically combine everything " is right. With this palette you can have less, mix it , and get double the wardrobe without going wrong.

    2. I have to say I was not worried about gaining weight the first six months of the pandemic.
Then it hit me that it was gonna be for more time and I started doing some exercise every day if possible. Really. I didn't realize how much I move a day until I was working from home.
I love the idea of layering. It's my go-to strategy as soon as the temperatures drop a little. I also love shirts and bow ties! And athleisure is the way to go! Yay!
I think like you, I stick to neutrals and add some color touches here and there, no matter if it's Fall or Winter. And you know better than to wear sweats in public. There could be accidents.

  2. I don't care for a lot of beiges and tans, but the mild greens and greys and blacks are right u my alley.
    And so is Marcel!

    1. Isn't that true?
I think I may try more grays. The advantage of basing my wardrobe around denim is that I can literally wear anything as top.
      Marcel is delicious. Really.

  4. I don't really have seasonal wardrobes. Most of my colors are... hell, they're all over the place. I'm not trying to make an impression, or look stylish, or trendy. I work in home improvement retail store that's really a functioning warehouse. When I go out for a bite, or to the movies it's either shorts or jeans, depending on the season.

    1. And that's perfectly fine.
I've worn white in December, so I feel you. And I wear jeans all year round.

  5. My version of “seasonal” wardrobe is short sleeves for the warmer days and long sleeves for the colder days. I’m not much into color palettes, per se, but I do favor blue…goes with my eyes 😜.

And Marcus is definitely hot. Need to pause at the beginning of each outfit. 😎

Well, it's practical. And I agree with blue being your color. yes.
And Mr. Floruss is hot. Hot, hot, hot.

  6. with this earth palette you can expect and be sure that all combinations fit perfectly well. They are natural colors. More natural than this is not possible.

  7. No A&F!!! That fashion house should be verboten. And he should be ashamed of himself for even promoting any of their stuff. Sorry, not sorry. The slimmest jeans I've ever worn - or would - are the shrink-to-fit 501s. Yeah, baby. Black is a staple in my closet. The rest: browns, blues, purples, white. I gave up "office" and "party" clothes years ago. XOXO

    1. Sorry Whack. A&F shorts fit me perfectly. They are about the only ones who sell tiny waists and 5" inseam.

    2. A&F was the ish in the Aughts, wasn't it?
They make some good staples. And 501s are ALWAYS a good choice. Always.
And Jimmy is right: A&F does sell smaller sizes. I prefer Zara, though, and even H&M for slim fit.

    3. Their nastiness of a decade ago irritated me no end. Making the smaller sizes is fine --- but to make the kind of comment like he did? What, because I was 36" waist and in my 50s I'm disgusting and have no business even thinking to wear his clothes. Well, he accomplished one thing: I no longer want to. I know he doesn't give a rats ass about my opinion, but, then again, neither does AT&T, Chik-fil-et, Home Depot, or Hobby Lobby, and they won't get any of my money, either. Not that that bothers any of those companies.... XOXO

    4. Ohhh yes!
The owner was kind of scary looking, right? He basically shot himself in the foot.
I do not have any A&F pieces, now that I think of it...

  9. I am concerned about my pants fitting as well, Sixpence. It has been nothing but sweats and gym shorts since March 2020. Good luck with the new palette. Look forward to seeing how it turns out. I could use some inspiration as I am still rocking flannels in the fall.

    1. LMAOOO
It's a struggle! I've worn the occasional pant in these almost two years, but it's been mostly athleisure (the bastard child of stretch jeans and sweatpants) and I'm not ready to go back to work!
I think flannels in the fall are just right: comfy and on point.

  10. I love mid-length coats. 3/4 coats are best for me... I'm lanky and, if fitted, they tend to flatter. I'm still all grey and black. I dunno why. Navy blue. Some dark brown. I am a bore when it comes to fashion. Once the weather gets colder, I just fold into myself. Kizzes.

    1. Same!
I'm not too tall but you're right, when fitted, those coats are super flattering. And I know people whose whole wardrobe is literally black and gray. Nothing bad with that.
