When Will COVID End?

We are going back to the office today and I am not really. Well, I AM ready: I have been vaccinated, boosted and I am ready to mask like Orville Peck. What I am not ready for is to put up with people's fuckery and their refusal to vaccinate and/or test regularly. You see, the thing is I work for a place that lets people in if they have been vaccinated or show proof of negative results in tests weekly. Why are they doing this? Well, the economy, people want to go back to 'normal', etc. The usual suspects.

Oh yes. You cannot sling a cat without hitting someone who complains about not 'being back to normal'. People want to erase two years of a pandemic that has killed hundreds of thousands of people in the US and go back to doing everything it is they used to do before the world was hit with COVID-19. Silly fools. There will not be 'back to normal' after COVID-19.

One of the things I learned from the awesome guys at ASAP Science is that the idea I had that viruses evolve to become milder is way much more complicated than what I thought. Enters Omicron. I am glad I'm vaccinated and boosted, but there's still the chance that Miss Omicron would fuck me up. Fuck mutations and the unvaccinated. The unvaccinated are driving this pandemic. And when I say 'the unvaccinated' I am not talking about some extra-poor farmer in a developing country with not easy access to the vaccine.

When I talk about 'the unvaccinated' I am talking about the stupid asshole living in the comfort of the United States who refuses to get vaccinated because whatever fucked up thing they read in some post in social media while 'doing their research'. Yeah. Fuck those 'unvaccinated' assholes. The one thing that keeps me going is to know that because I am vaccinated and boosted I am less likely to infect others if I, by any chance, get infected myself. Fingers crossed I will not, right? And also that I am much less likely to keep driving these mutations that keep threatening the immunocompromised and the babies.

As of today, there are six scenarios that scientists predict could be possible in a world ravaged by COVID-19. What stayed with me is that most probably we will need a yearly vaccine, like we now do have with the flu. And that makes me think that years from now, we will still have people 'doing their research' on fucking Facehook swearing the vaccine came out of nowhere or people complaining about the microchips everybody apparently have had for years and that they swear will eventually cause my keys to stick to my upper arm.

Where is my money, Bill Gates?

So wish me luck and patience to deal with stupid assholes and let's keep our fingers crossed that I don't have to let some ignorant Karen have it because she's all up in my face without  a face mask covering her unvaccinated face. It's going to be a year, this 2022.

XOXO

P.S. did you know you can get four free at-home COVID tests from Uncle Joe? You can go to WWW.COVIDTESTS.GOV and order yours in under five minutes. There, I also discovered that there's the possibility to have my insurance pay for up to eight tests a month per plan and that there's a list of community-based testing sites in case I need one. And the White House has opened a Hotline to order the tests by phone: 800-232-0233. Stay safe!

P.P.S. First Betty White, then Andre Leon Talley and now Thierry Mugler? And it's only January? Fuck off, 2022!

Comments

  1. First off, Mugler? No, no no. I hadn't heard that.

Now COVIDIOTS. We are back at work, mostly, and a client came in that was supposed to see me; she walked back to my area and I gave her the 'halt.' She had no mask. I said we'll sit in the main room, but she didn't want to; I said, get a mask, and we can go into another room; she refused. My boss came in, and he knows my stance, and told the woman that if she didn't want to wear a mask, she could have her meeting via phone or Zoom but she would not be meeting with me unless masked and six feet away.
She huffed and puffed and then pulled a mask from her purse.
    Bitch.
COVID may last until the majority of idiots are dead and then the rest of us can move on.

    1. Yep, Manfred Thierry Mugler has left us. I was shook.

And I can totally believe that story. It's incredible the lengths these people will go to be an absolute nightmare. Their sense of entitlement and selfishness is only as big as their ignorance.
      Bitch indeed.

  2. Just so you know, it's not only the US where the anti-vaxxers are creating problems, some European countries have had full scale riots. Covid is never going away, it's here to stay, and because countries like the US where around 37 % of the population (think Republican / conservative) variants will keep cropping up. Just keep getting vaxed and boosted because Covid is slowly killing these losers off. In case you didn't know, this is how evolution works.

    1. Oh, there's stupid people everywhere.
But the US always seems to lead the pack. And it's the variant danger what worries me. These stupid ignoramus are going to keep them popping up every so often. Ugh. And I'm more than prepared to keep boosting my immunity. As soon as they say the second booster is up, I'll be paying a visit to the nearest Walgreens.
And Darwin was right, I guess....

    1. Aww thanks, Debra!
I am doing my best and my coworkers (the people in my floor) are super cool. Keeping the mask on when leaving my office still needs processing but I'll be there by the end of the week. I literally leave my office only when I have to and the procedures they've implemented to keep everybody either tested or vaccinated seem to be holding.
      Fingers crossed.

  4. COVID-19 will become ENdemic. It will continue to mutate, vaccines will become a yearly thing. The unvaxxedf? Well, those folks can fuck right off and die for all I care. I'm vaxxed and boosted and wear a mask and use hand sanitizer as soon as I leave any establishment. I will not be indoors with anyone who is unmasked. They don't like it? They, too, can fuck off.
You're right, 2022 seems to be taking our entertainers at a much quicker pace than previous years. (Of course, you know the MAGGOTS celebrate that.)
Stay safe, Six. Kick Karen in the crotch. XOXO

    1. I agree with your idea of it becoming endemic. Totally.
I also agree that the unvaxxed can fuck right off. I have no patience left for stupidity. And you should see me washing my hands and using sanitizer all day! LOL My hands have not been this clean in years.
The deaths this year have shaken me because they've all come so quickly and it's been all awesome and creative people. Darn.
And I'll do my best, Big. Hopefully Karen will stay the fuck away from me.

  5. I and my mother have prided ourselves on not yet getting Covid -19 in any form. I still swear it is all the gin, lol!!! I don't think it will ever end, and I'm so ready for travel aboard.

But is seems like we are slowly getting surrounded by. It seems I'm hearing of more and more people I know now getting the virus. A vaxxed and boostered friend says it is inevitable that we all are going to get it eventually. Who knows? Now my cousin's wife is a doctor, so some time ago she sent us a box of about 10 rapid test to have in case we think we exposed. And while I miss working at my old job doing visuals, I count my blessings Im not around all those people in a day. At the shop we see maybe 4-5 people a day and they are masked most of the time. Because it would take one Karen to say something, and I'll tell her to go fuck herself. And it's beyond me why any place of employment would allow any workers or visitors to be there not vaxxed or boostered. I just count my blessing I come from strong stock.

    1. Hahaha well, we all should start hoarding gin, then.
We've been mostly lucky, but you are right, I agree that COVID is here to stay. You have no idea the number of people I know who've gotten it, too. All we can do is stay boosted so if any of us gets it, it's mild and nothing more than a few days with a sore throat.
Yesterday I gave the evil eye to an idiot who was walking around with their nose out of their mask. There's always the one who does not seem to understand that both nose and mouth should be covered.
Also, thank goodness we don't live in the South, honey. It's Darwin's choice down there.

  6. Now I have to worry about you back at work. But I know you’ll do EVERYTHING in your power to beat them back. You hear everyday about the wide-eyed crazies protesting about mandates, and not being able to go to their favorite place of business and cough all over everyone. I’m done with them. Fortunately I have the luxury to work from home, not living where my company’s main places of business are. But even there they have postponed the return of non-essential office staff due to the continuing mutations. Pushed back until March now, I believe.

I agree that this is going to require annual (bi-annual?) boosters. And the “excess population” cannot die off soon enough for my taste. But we all have to hang in there and support each other through this. Stay strong ✊🏻

    1. Oh, Bae. It was a test.
But I made it. I think I'll be able to do this because everybody (well I know there'll be exceptions and I'm ready for those) seems to be following the protocols they've implemented. As for public places, I'm still staying away from most public venues. I basically go from my house to Trader Joe's and back.
Glad you're still working from home. It's going to be the modality for a ton of people from now on.
I think a bi-annual booster may be needed because of the fucking variants. At least for a year or two. Then it'll be a yearly thing in coming years. And there'll be less idiots to battle, hopefully. They'll weed themselves out...

  8. Let's not be too quick to condemn 2022, dear. Those people lived fabulous lives and we all gotta go sometime. Today I learned I like listening to science when taught by creative gay men! Bravo to this little troupe. As for going back? Really? Now? We've not yet quite peaked with Omicron. Why are they forcing this issue? I am still safe, at home. My furnace went out on Friday, but hopefully should be fixed on Tuesday. That said, I'd rather sit here and freeze than go back to the office! I feel your pain. I know my time is coming... but - I am going to sit here until HR comes to have a little talk. See, I happen to know there is a pocket of terrible people where I work. I used to work directly with them - and overheard terrible conversations - ones that got so bad I had to report them. Now I don't work with them, but they are in the office every day... and I know none of them are vaccinated. So... when HR does come calling I am going to tell them that for the sake of my mental health I cannot be exposed to those people. Its worth a shot. Thanks for sharing this hon. I like those science boys! You be careful. Stay safe, stay healthy. - Kizzes.

I know, I know. It's that they were all so awesome that the quick succession of bad news got to me. They did live fabulous lives and that's what we need to remember, right?
And ASAP science is dope. And they're adorable.

Yep, they decided that it was time to go back and many of us were not ready yet. But hey. I'm glad you're still working from home. Going back amongst the MAGAts is not a great prospect. You know one of them is gonna get them all sick sooner or later, so... waiting is the name of the game. I can't believe HR has not done something about them!
And I'll try to stay safe. Avoiding the idiots like the plague.

  10. I have read that I am waiting for COVID to become an endemic disease, losing its strength and becoming a flu. Then, it is possible that other viruses more destructive than COVID will come, as has happened so many times in the past. Only we no longer have direct memory of it: the last violent pandemic dates back to a century ago. For example, the plague of 1348 in Europe decimated the population, and many other plagues thereafter. I would say that since 1945, also thanks to the better general hygienic conditions, we have no longer had such intrusive phenomena. But the viruses have not gone away: they are sleeping. Let's hope they don't wake up!
