I love homoerotic art and homoerotic artists. Way back in the golden years of the Tumblr heyday they were everywhere on that platform. Once The Big Purge happened, they all flew to Instagram (until Zuckerberg got his greedy little alien fingers on it) and now they kind of have to keep fighting the prudish bots that plague the site.

@digital.mjb is the handle of Michel Broderick, a super talented artist who shows his work on Instagram and whom I found by chance. As an Instagram Stalker (c), I usually find artists through other artists or through accounts that promote queer artists or artists who specialize in queer content, and I found Broderick through other accounts that promoted his art.

The thing with the bots on Instagram (and its homogenizing crusade), is that they go by the hashtags the artist use (#homoerotic, #gay, #men, etc) and hunt them down. Then they scan underneath any blur or any kind of sticker the artists use and hunt the gay down, making the artist take the post down. Fuckers. They let hetero smut (read: women) be as thirsty as they want, though. You know Zuckerberg loves him some clicks.

I love @digital.mjb's art and I wish more people would know about it, hence this post. I find it incredibly annoying that artists who produce homoerotic art have to be recommended by someone (Broderick's account is private, you need to ask to follow) instead of being open, like the myriad heterosexual versions of it that exist in the platform.

The illustrations are deceptively one-dimensional, and in almost impossibly contortions. They look to me like hieroglyphics that need to be carefully examined to extract meaning from them. You kind of have to pay close attention to realize the men depicted by the artist are mostly caught in the middle of some very hot, very sexy act. And I like that. I actually have two of his illustrations as my phone wallpaper right now. One for the Lock screen and one for the home screen. I'm fancy like that.

You know what I also like? That his men have a mustache. I noticed that some of his drawings look just like the men I like: they have a nice mustache. Yep. I like The Clone look.

And this last one is the one that's one of my wallpapers. For February, you know. I like to stay on topic...

Oh, he also has his own website,  Hotlead.com, where you can see more of his work, which can get more explicit than what he shows on Instagram. But if you're on Insta, and you like homoerotic art, give @digital.mjb a follow. It's always good to support queer/ queer positive creators. Or at least I think so...

XOXO

P.S. @Xersex, your chat with him lead him to post a story about the blog! Woot woot!

  1. "I love homoerotic art and homoerotic artists.": who doesn't?

I'm following him! his IG profile is private, but after 5 minutes of my request, I was logged in by Michael Broderick and saw everything. Indeed, he also appreciated some of my images that openly explain my homoerotic tendencies. I think he felt comfortable in my IG profile (here) and me in in its profile.

  4. I love it! This type of art is one of my favorite media...almost like the "cartoonish" erotica ...and that's gets me turned on. I'd gladly hang a collage of his art in like a hallway. I have several books of it and I think in one of them his work is indeed in it..

And yes Instagram I enjoy but there picking and choosing who to delete and keep is odd. And I loved it when they just randomly removed one of my post. And I don't hashtag shit. Very rarely do I post any underwear shots...but the last one got deleted. Im still salty.

It's 'innocent' enough and so aesthetically pleasing that you get caught by surprise by its raw sensuality. I'd LOVE to have a big poster of his.
Instagram is a hellhole for anything gay positive that has an edge. I can totally see them deleting something you post just because. Hate them.

  5. I enjoy the fact that his characters are so diverse. Ageism, like racism, is rampant in gay porn. This is refreshing. That last one, though, is of a higher caliber. Very Deco. Thanks for sharing. I love this new weekly feature of yours... keep sharing 'em. I personally love being visually stimulated.... Kizzes.

As if we died at twenty and at 2% body fat. And the last one is indeed very Art Deco. You can see more of that on his website, btw. And you know I'll keep posting my favs. So much fun.

  7. Isn't only liking homo-erotic art a lot like saying "I only eat Granny Smith apples," and ignoring the bananas, and the strawberries, and the peaches, and the oranges that are filling up the rest of the fruit bowl? 😎😎

    1. But Dave,
I indeed only buy Granny Smiths. And only green Granny Smiths. I like the sharp flavor. I don't buy red apples. That does not mean that I won't eat red apples in a nice fruit salad. You, on the other hand, seem to be really adverse to Granny Smiths and recoil at the thought of eating them. I wonder why....

  8. Sounds like it's time for someone to create a Q-Insta or equivalent that would be a total safe space. They could all move to ntmbl, no? There also appears to be a few older gentlemen featured in his work, too. How lovely is that? XOXO

    1. Oh, of course it would be great to have an alternative to IG, but here we are.
The thing with ntmbl is that it needs to take off. I'm thinking on opening something there.
And yes, he's got some May-December romances going on there...

You should see the thirst traps some of those 'models' post on IG. And they don't bat an eyelash cause they get clicks. Capitalism. It ruins everything. And Zuckerberg knows that.

  11. Now I love this art!!!! I would gladly do a whole wall collage of it. I tend to be drawn in by the erotic of the "cartoonish" art. I have several books of it and I believe this artists' work is in one of them. It actually gets me turned on a bit. And I enjoy his titled work names he gives it.
