Hudson Valley
Houses that are not too precious are always the best. Don't you think so, too? And when Darren mentions that houses are supposed to be 'lived' in, I found myself nodding along with his monologue. I also found it interesting to see how an interior designer actually lives, because I love gossip.
I like the idea that this was a farmhouse. I'm not very enamoured of the 'farmhouse style' that that woman and her husband promote (there's this married couple on tv and they fell off my graces because they contribute huge donations to a homophobic church so fuck them) but I love this. And it was built in the 1800s (I don't want to think how much they paid for it, though) and the rooms are smaller than your usual McMansion and the ceilings lower, too. It used to be a xmas tree farmhouse and they made it their home. I like that.
I think that the idea that their house has grown 'organically' is quite quaint and closer to reality than having your whole house re-done all at once. Houses grow with you. You'd think an interior decorator would step in with a blueprint and a handful of fabric samples to make everything perfect but that's not the case here. He's tried his house as a lab for the things he thought he'd enjoy. And I'm not going to mention that they basically went to France, filled up a container and then shipped it back to the States because then I'd get a little jealous and the green eyed monster is merciless.
Ok, so the kitchen floors? Yes, please. The glassware? Yes, please. Your own fantastic china with its own lore? Yes, please. And I had to google 'tablescape' cause I had no idea what that was. And that room in the back of the house? Fab. Call it TV room or call it sunroom, it's cozy and it's airy and it's fantastic. The bird story is FAB. I think it's super cool and as he says, a little bougie and a little sexy. And I'd listen to him talk about things for hours. Bet he's fun in bed. Did you check out how he fills those jeans? Lucky husband.
I loved the story with the taxidermy and the sofas and the bedroom. And. The. Bathroom. That fucking bathroom. I could live there.
XOXO
a wonderful house, of course, which, however, in my opinion, has only one flaw: here and there, it has too many objects. (how many - beautiful - dishes, for example)
ReplyDeleteI actually loved those dishes, so fab!
DeleteBut I can see why you think it's a little crowded.
I like the ambiance, though.
XOXO
his dishes ARE marvellous! truly! but when I saw them, I thought he should have at least 20 people each lunch. A large family or a college class or two!
DeleteI'm kinda with Xersex ... it's a lot. But that sunroom, oh god yes. And, yes, to the bathroom as well though it feels a little over-the-top.
ReplyDeleteI think I would not leave the sunroom.
DeleteI would even eat there, to tell you the truth. So comfy! And in the summer you'd just open those windows and take a siesta.
The bathroom is my weakness because I've always wanted a his/his sink.
XOXO
Agreeing with the rest, too much clutter. Of course, I'm sure he can easily afford a house keeper who dusts, and vacuums, and does windows, too.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sure they don't clean.
DeleteOf if they do it, it's kind of like a Sunday morning whim.
And the only place I found a little full was the sunroom and it suited it!
XOXO
The first thing to come to mind was the Hudson Valley. Anne Marie LOVED the Hudson Valley.
ReplyDelete2- The opening scene. Him in the blue shirt and jeans had me hot then he feels his leg and then bumps his balls! HOT! I'm like where is this going.
3- LOVE! I feel my style is close to his but still just less stuff. I could live there though. While there is a lot of stuff, it's still yet simple. And I join you in that bathroom...if I can have the deep end of the tub!
Wait. He felt his leg and bumped his balls? When? I even backed up to find it and still missed that!
DeleteLeave it to the Mistress to notice a man adjust himself. LMAO
DeleteOh, dear Anne Marie!
DeleteAnd he got me all attentive when he appeared in those jeans. Bet he's packing.
And I can see the stuff getting on the way of some people's taste but I kind of like it. I am not as cluttered but I understand everything they have has a story.
And that TUB! That's one to watch.
XOXO
I agree with him 100% that a house is to be lived in. When people first come to our house they stop to gape around and then ask, "Should we take our shoes off?" Only if you want to. The place is for **living**. This dude has way too much "stuff" for me and the style isn't mine, that's for sure. And taxidermy weirds me out. I do like that floor...and those silver mugs he had made, though. XOXO
ReplyDeleteP.S. Now, don't leave me hanging about the "farm couple" on TV. It wouldn't the the ones who created their own cable channel - who then bought the DIY network, would it? Come on. Name names here so the rest of us can avoid adding to their coffers that they'll give to the evilgelical church. 👀👀👀
Yes. Totally agree.
DeleteA house is to be lived in. People who come visit me (or used to come, before COVID) always ended up on the floor and laying on the sofa near my music. Really. It felt like a sleepover.
And the couple is indeed that Joanna (sp?) and her unwashed, pushover husband. I despise them. it's all for show. I'm sure she hates him but stays with him because of the money they bring in as a brand. She's trying to be Martha Stewart and her farmhouse style makes me vomit.
XOXO
I like his story about the Christmas trees!
ReplyDeleteHahaha
DeleteYes! And they played that movie scene with the tree? Priceless.
XOXO
This is a very lived in home. I love the stories but getting the house then going to France to fill it up, turned me off a bit. And the number of trees they killed.
ReplyDeleteI do like the way they hid the TV. The kitchen is huge, as is the bathroom. Both were done very well. The bedroom seemed a little over the top for me. The sunroom was gorgeous, sans the taxidermy.
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
It was built in the 1800s so it has a soul.
DeleteAnd I really found that trip to France very Bougie, but they do have the dough, so more power to them. And I think they failed moving the trees? Can't remember.
And the kitchen and the bathroom are HUGE. And we didn't even see the girl's bedroom or bathroom. There's money.
And I feel you about the taxidermy. Why?
XOXO
I couldn't get passed the "Bourbon voice after the Hunt Ball". They must belong to the Windy Hollow Hunt. I wished he would have shown the property and horses.
ReplyDeleteLMAOOOO
DeleteHe's Bogie. But oh so charming.
I'd love to spend an evening with him. Well, more than an evening but you get my drift.
And I bet they do have good horses. Money, honey.
XOXO
I love a home that is lived in. I have visited friends who live in homes where some rooms are just for show (they don't say that, but you can tell..but the un-walked on carpets and beautiful but not sat on couches). Who wants to live in a museum?
ReplyDeleteNobody.
DeleteNobody wants to live in a museum. Like you, I don't understand the purpose of having a room that nobody uses. A waste.
XOXO
How fun. I like the setting. And the house is okay. There's too much stuff. I could barely navigate those rooms. But some nice ideas and the owner is sweet. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteOh the setting is fab.
DeleteAnd I did not see a lot of clutter? Everything is very tastefully placed. I've seen some very cluttered houses in these tours.
And I'd like more than one hours with him.
XOXO
Surprisingly I loved this house even though it's not my style . I'm simple and very clean.
ReplyDeleteSame!
DeleteI found it charming and airy, which is not something you say about houses built in the 1800s.
XOXO
