Domingo_el_chino

When I look at what @domingo_el_chino has created I feel an almost physical reaction. And I'm not alone. I found a page on AdonisMale dedicated all to his art. I like art that hits me in the solar plexus and just demands I surrender. I know, it would be a little too much to hang his art in the living room, but in my bedroom? I would not think twice. I'd love to have a little corner with some of his artwork on the wall/a table. Really. I don't know what format he uses (probably several) but I'd love to have miniatures of his work and have people really lean in to actually discover that what they thought they saw is indeed, true.

I think the role of art is to awaken feelings and to provoke thought. Any kind of art. And his art definitely awakens feelings and makes you think. At least in my. I love his use of color! So bold and visceral. I can almost see some people recoiling at the boldface sexuality of his paintings (that's a move I always enjoy, natch), but I can also see others definitely leaning in to better appreciate it. Now, that's art that moves, as art should.

@Domingo_el_chino is the handle this artist uses on Instagram. And he does not appear just by a cursory search. You know IG suppresses handles that have #queer or #gay in it, right? Also, Facebook (the whole 'Meta' thing does not make me forget that Instagram is a Facebook property) will make you log on to be able to see his posts. It's part of its never ending greed for eyes on its products. Funny how Facebook will try to censor these creators and try to scrub Instagram clean of anything remotely homoerotic and at the same time force you to log on its little cesspool of iniquity that is Facebook to see what you want to see.  I got to him through another artist (as is the case with many of these creators on IG) and if you look closely, there's no other identifier than his email address for commissions. Even though he's apparently well known enough to appear in some European publications. Love me a mystery.

I kind of agree to some extent to his statement that:

"It's quite ok to be gay: When it comes to sex, no one has more freedom right now than same-sex loing men. At least in some parts of the world" (emphasis mine).

This is true in what concerns parts of the Western world that are not overrun by religion, but at what price? We can literally get sex delivered to our doorstep (fuck and run, am I right?) but at what cost? Being an honorary Boomer, I think that the advent of the hookup app has somehow diluted the hotness of having sex with men we don't really know. Hooking up is not the same now as it was, in let's say,  around the year 2000.  At that time, you had to hop on one of the M/M chatrooms on AOL and actually engage somebody. That was the beginning of the end of the bar scene, IMHO. Not that I wanted to go all Looking for Mr. Goodbar, but Grindr quickly lost its shiny new object feeling after I was in it for a month. I think it did fulfill its promise, and I did meet interesting men through it, but it was because them and I put effort into making the experience worth of our time. But I have never missed it after I deleted it. It forever lives in my apps in the ether, though. I was cleaning my phone last week and I found it tucked between a tip calculator I downloaded like ten years ago and a PDF creator I've never used.

I do agree with him when he states on @NUMEROBERLIN that the next frontier for gay self-expression and horniness is social media, though. Even with the vise-like grasp IG tries to get on gay shit, you can still create a feed that caters to your innermost desires: sweatpants dick imprints, accidental nudity, body beautiful accounts, sports and leather gear, men's feet and the meme-iest of memes concerning everything from oral sex to anal. I agree that there's no need for shame involved when following any of these accounts. Our friends know what we like, after all. Our social media feed is just a confirmation of that.

I love that he has noticed that there's a merging of pop culture and porn that has been taking place during the last decade, maybe? And that's what I really like about his art: it's sexy and daring and it's beautiful as art expression. Real-life based gay sex is more available now than ever. What with JustForFans and OnlyFans teeming with gay (and straight!) males playing with each and every part of their body for our enjoyment? Both alone and with equally horny (and heteroflexible) friends. I find that remarkable. I do prefer homemade porn to the slick studio porn we have got during the last two decades.

There's also something really immediate about the straightforward horniness of gay men that is lacking in their straight male counterpart. Not because teh gheyz are horny-er but because of the immediacy with which hookup apps have tackled that horniness. I do not see that in the straight world (and I do have some straight friends, mind you). Straight men seem to have to work a little bit harder than gay men to get some nookie. Straight women think Grindr is fun. Straight men are forever fascinated with it. The urge to have sex with a member of your own sex is the common denominator here and it's a very powerful one. It's quite the turnaround, as he said: "We have some catching up to do. When heteros were having their Boogie Nights moment, gays were living in a dark and scary place".  Maybe that's why Grindr and all the gay/bi hookup apps are so successful. And maybe that's why I have a whole blog dedicated in part to dick. And other delights. I'm just catching up.

XOXO

P.S.  He's also been featured in international magazines  like @numeroberlin

"The best way to wake up on a Monday morning is with a fat dick in your face"

P.P.S. and he's not only on Numero Berlin, He's also in HIM Magazine, natch. @Domingo_el_chino is going places. And I wanna go with him.

  1. I LOVE it! I have the feeling that art would indeed keep me "stirred" if you know what I mean. I would like smaller print to make a big wall collage. I have the feeling he uses a couple of techniques to get that look also. I'd be curious as to did he paint live models, or did he take pictures to reference back too. The friend I life modeled for did both.

I have never been on Grindr, but the number of negative comments I hear I probably never will either. I don't seem to need it anyway. I also agree with you and how quick we can hook up compared to our straight counterparts. It's one small part of the lifestyle I enjoy to be honest.

    1. Same.
And it does give me the tingle to mingle, I have to say. And a collage? Brilliant.
I'm sure he uses mixed techniques and probably does some of both. I love the bold strokes and the colors.
Grindr is a mixed bag. Mostly annoying and frustrating. And straight men are forever fascinated about the easiness with which gay men can get sex. Sometimes even I am surprised.

  2. His style is quite interesting, and it looks like, in some at least, he's manipulated a photograph.
Even when single, I was not much of a hook up guy, but more of a connection queer.

    1. Yes!
He probably does use photographs as a base and then paints on them. Would be super interesting to see his process.
And hookups always make me weary. Even the bar type.
Connection Queer is the name of my punk rock band.

  3. Love his work! It comes alive because of the vibrancy of color but also due to the vibrancy of the figures themselves. It's an interesting conundrum for the straight folks, isn't it? The MeToo movement kind of put a foot on men's dicks. It was never easy for straight guys to get the one-night-stand hookup in bars. Oh, sure, it happened - but not as often as some guys would like you to believe. Having Grindr makes it easier for them to get a bit of nookie on the DL - a blowjob or a handjob. So who needs to catch up to whom? 😂 XOXO

    1. I felt the same!
The burst of color and the explicit subject are a double whammy for me. And the #MeToo did not catch up in the gay world because, well, we see sex differently. But I agree. It's so much more easy for a gay guy to get some nookie that straight men are always a little jealous.

  4. Ok you’re filling up my instagram with art. Not that I’m complaining, mind you. I’ve just come to a greater appreciation for the male form through you. His style is very realistic in some aspects. Like Maddie and Bob said, some of them have a photographic quality to them.

    Thanks babe!

And anything that has to do with men you know it's going to interest me. And I'd love to have some of his work, for real.

  5. I heard on GAY USA that gay Ukrainians were using Grindr to pinpoint Russian locations in the war. Clever boys.
I have a few male paintings but I've never seen a house with nothing but gay art. This artists' works made me think of Karmasutra. (sp???)

The Ukrainians are being super resourceful and I love that for them. And I have seen houses with mostly gay art on the walls. I'd love to have nothing but male are on the walls, btw.

  6. I adore this new series of yours.... look forward to it. The artwork is amazing. This one? Ever so. Fascinating. I would own one of these. They are very powerful. Love the stroke work... (pun intended.) Kizzes, kid.

I loved this idea from the beginning, tbh.
I'd also love one of these for my little corner. The strokes are very forceful, almost angry. I love that.
      Puns accepted!

Instagram is such a bitch when it comes to homoerotic art and SO MANY artists have been censured, that I'm very surprised his work is still up.
      He's totally worth a follow.

  9. I really wish FB would fuck off and die. I also forget that they now IG and a couple other platforms that would be better off without the Zuck controlling them. I can only imagine what college would have been like with the dating apps and social media. I had to put in the work in my day to get laid. =)

    1. Oh, I agree.
Facehook is one of the worst things to happen in the last ten years. And they are trying to own everything that people use as social media. It's metastasizing, really.
And dating life for people born in the last twenty years is radically different in so many aspects.
And something tells me you were quite the charmer, Mr. Shife...
