@KINKYNEEDLES.2

Oh, here. I was thinking that maybe you needed a new hobby, maybe something like paper cutting or maybe embroidery? Today I bring your motivation with this post. Hobbies. We all have them, right?

@KINKYNEEDLES.2

The thing with these dainty works of art is that the devil is in the details. I don't think they can be large format, they require the viewer to lean in and appreciate the details. And that's magic. I also like the appropriation of two media usually reserved for kindergarteners or for women to represent a strong homoerotic context. But you knew that already.

@KINKYNEEDLES.2 even immortalized the  famed notorious Dick Dock. Yeah. Fun. Every time I hear Dick Dock think about P-town and Maddie's advice. Yeah, I always listen to those who know what they are talking about.

He seems to have been working with these forms of art to explore new ways to approach the topic while changing the way he sees art:

"On the formal level, I find the synthesis that can be achieved by reducing an image to silhouettes very attractive. Stripping the silhouette of detail, fluidity or gesture makes it somehow more suggestive, elegant and enigmatic. As for embroidery, I find it very interesting to revalue a traditional activity through themes not specific to this specific art and with a very important approach to the character of the technique. Working with these two techniques also allows me to move away from the digital tools that I am normally used to working with, and return to a more physical way of facing the creation of images, as well as changing the execution times for each project."

In his own words:

"I am interested in the semantic contrast that occurs between techniques that have traditionally been associated with the feminine, the delicate, the popular and craftsmanship, such as embroidery and openwork paper, with images of a high gay sexual content and with male models that are the archetype of masculinity for a sector of the gay community. I am also interested in images from cinema, gay porn cinema and how they build models of behavior and fantasies with very defined categories."

I am always in awe of artists who can create so many things. From ceramics, to drawings, to collages. His ETSY store is cute, too! I find it fascinating that somebody could use so many different media to get their message across. And create such interesting pieces.

And it's not like the artist himself is chopped liver, mind you. For added fun, there's plenty of thirst traps on his Twitter. You can go check @KINKYNEEDLES to see I'm not lying, dear.

XOXO

P.S. and talking about dickprints...

  3. OMG ar first I thought it was ink on paper and then I saw the cutout and the embroidery! This is truly masterful work. The time he puts into this art is amazing.

    Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to do some research on the bird app.

  4. Holy crap! Incredible stuff. He's VERY talented to be able to do that. The cutouts especially. Consider that each form needs to attach to the whole in some way so as not to fall apart. Truly exquisite. What a find! XOXO

      I thought it was worth a post. I cannot even cut paper snowflakes. I cannot imagine the amount of work (and precision) this requires.
      He's fantastic.
