La Renarderie
Ok, so here's the deal: if you're going to get a big house and remodel it, I think you should go this way. It's obvious that Scott and his husband have money (otherwise, how do you get a property like this, right?) but I think it's more a matter of taste and of knowing what THEY like what gives this house a soul.
Starting with that foyer. Not only the unusual shape, but the ombre color? I died. I am about to paint a whole wall black just because it looks so... sumptuous? Sophisticated? Classy? Amazing? I don't know, but I do want. It' the perfect segway into that amazing living room. It's a perfect example of how to make an huge room feel cozy. And I love all the white walls and the windows. What's not to like?
I love how he has used tons of dark colors! Really. Also, the fact that they used the house's 'good bones' to their advantage, speaks volumes about the thought that went behind the remodeling. Just look at the 10 X 10 window in the living room. Gagged. And the bar and the wine cellar? Honey! And I don't cook, but that kitchen could motivate me (take a peek at the pantry).
Yes, the main bedroom is the size of my whole space, but hey. If you've got it... I really like the idea of incorporating art you really like into your space and make it well, your own. It's a fantastic house and I can see why he's proud of it. I would be, if I were him.
XOXO
great taste for sure!
ReplyDeleteI thought so, too.
DeleteHe uses some bursts of color to call attention to things I did not notice at the beginning. Smart.

Black is not a color; I was a paint manager for a number of years. I didn't get any homey vibes from that house, just echoes and sterility.
ReplyDeleteDon't they say that black is the absence of color? I read that somewhere.
DeleteAnd it is very modern, in a sense and he likes gray even more than I do. His separating his big living space in several groups makes it cozier. It's a big house, and I bet his doggie is happy.
XOXO
I love black. I painted our powder room to look like a man's black pinstriped suit with thin gray stripes; love it. And our foyer is painted a blue that is so dark it almost looks black. I'm not so much a fan of white, but I love it in this house. And that kitchen: slap an apron on me and send out the dinner invites!
ReplyDeleteOMG Bob. We need pics.
DeleteI've been thinking about a touch of black for a long time, but I'm too chickenshit to commit. And the thing is that I love white: my bedroom is two shades of white and I have that gallery wall painted black with the b&W photos.
And you are right! I don't even cook and that kitchen!!!
XOXO
I don't get house love. I am not wired this way. I hear this man talk about houses and I'm... so not this. The house is nice. They do great work. I can't imagine devoting my life to such things. Honestly - a car gets you from a to b. That is its purpose. A house keeps you warm and outta the rain. That is its purpose. I get that we collect things and we keep them around us - that in a way they define us. But this need for more house, better house, perfect house? No. There are more important things in my life. Good for them. Each to their own. Glad they're happy. But house porn is so not for me.
ReplyDeleteI totally love house tours.
DeleteThey give me inspo (in the details, not to absolute remodel, mind you). It may be because I don't own a house yet, and I'm mentally prepping myself for it. Kind of a mental dreamboard, if you will. And yes, a house needs to be practical, but it can be pretty. My car is a red Hyundai Accent: practical and pretty. We can have both.

ReplyDeleteThe burled walnut doors at the entrance hall are gorgeous. Coming from a theatre background, I like black and white. He's used black too much. Cozy? Not really. Tomb-like? Sort of. Our living room & master suite have 8'x12' windows, so I get that change. Love the kitchen. Yes, I could cook my ass off in that. The man himself? He'd make me nuts. Very pretentious name-dropper and repeats himself too much. 🤣 XOXO
That house have some awesome details.
DeleteIt was probably custom built in the seventies, he mentions the bones were good. And B&W for me are difficult colors. And I also loved that window, it may have been kind of dark before it.
And that kitchen was kick ass. Really.

ReplyDeleteI think it would be easy to get your steps in. The L-shape makes everything out of the way, I think. I guess I’m just used to having two floors so the footprint doesn’t seem that big. I wouldn’t think of using that much black, maybe as an accent, but not a whole room.
The walk in refrigerator is an interesting concept, though it seemed pretty empty. I guess when you have money you don’t worry about all that electricity.
The living room is a great room, no pun intended. I think the space is laid out well and the huge windows are everything.
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
Ha!
DeleteIt is not a one-bedroom. That's for sure. And it is a cool shape, even if it's one floor, right? I lived in that two-story townhome and had the same space I have now, but it's all horizontal. It's a change.
OMG the walk-in fridge! Very restaurant, same as the kitchen. They probably entertain a lot and the living room and the kitchen are perfect for that.
XOXO
I enjoyed all the art in the home and that fab classy dog bed in the living room.
ReplyDeleteThey do have nice art there.
DeleteI liked the huge photo of Betty LOL
And that was a fabulous doggie bed!
XOXO
He's right. I can walk into a place, even a dump, peel away layers and see a vision in a place. I could live anywhere. And my friend who owns the flower shop, his whole first floor of his own is painted b black. Love the style here.
ReplyDeleteOh, but you have the training and the talent.
DeleteI am forever amazed by the before/after pictures in this kind of project (this house was big and ugly in the before photos!!) because it takes me a minute to imagine the space any other way.
I have been toying with painting one wall in my bedroom black, because it's so light (it's got a white accent wall now) but I really love how it reflects light for the plants I keep there.
I also loved his style. Great mix.
