Making It Werk

@silverjow

So, for the first time in all my years as an employee, I am now working closely with my Union. It's been awhile since many co-workers have insinuated that I’d be useful and could contribute to the discussions that take place in my workplace related to better work conditions and salaries. I have always contributed to my Unions, but have shied away from a more hands-on role.

And I thought, why not? I already have an opinion about everything and I have a big mouth. Better put it where my REAL money is. After reading how Bezos and Musk hate Unions an try to squish them at all costs, I thought it was time to do something. So here we are.

XOXO

  2. Unions are making a comeback because employees are fed up with shit wages while the corporations rake in billions. Corporations hate unions because they bring accountability. Conservatives hate unions because they tend to vote for Democrats. Unions give power to the people.

    1. Also, because people are seeing more and more corporations using extreme tactics to bust them. It's about bonuses for the fat cats and nothing for the employees. Look at Amazon.
The Repugs hate unions because they hate freedom and need to keep part of the population eternally poor so they can line their pockets.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
I’m proud of you babe. With record corporate profits in so many industries it’s time to share the wealth that the laborers have created. Enough of the stock buybacks. Too many employers get by with paying minimum wage and little if no employee benefits.

On the blue bird app I follow @DanPriceSeattle. He’s the CEO that cut his salary and increased his employee’s minimum salary to $70,000. That’s how you lead.

    1. Ha!
You know I'm a troublemaker and I hate injustice. I think workers need a voice and that that voice needs to be protected. The minimum wage is a poverty wage. Very few people can live on that.
I've read Dan Price. He's awesome and proof that CEOs are just greedy bastards.

  4. I'm enthralled by all the recent interest in unions. Corporate America has gotten away with far too much for far too long. Eat the rich. They enjoy the luxuries they have because of all the work being done by the minions. It's time the minions had a place at the table and a share of the gains. That uber billionaires like Bezos and Musk don't understand that happy, healthy workers mean untainted profit is beyond me. They would not be viewed as the super villain's they are if they would simply do the right thing by their workers. Loved this post. Hope all is well. Kizzes.

    1. Unions have always been there.
It's become more of a watercooler topic because big corporations like Amazon and Starbucks have been caught trying to bust them. And because oligarchs like Elon Musk have tried to silence them.
      Eat the rich indeed!

  5. Good on you. You DO have the voice, and now you can use it to help yourself and your co-workers.

    1. That's what I thought.
Strength in numbers, am I right? I'm also thinking about other places of work that need an example and the support that we can provide. Worker's voices need to be heard.

    Big says:

The one union I belonged to did bupkus for me when I needed them. I pulled out. But that was many, many years ago. Unions can be good and do good if those running it are good people on the up and up. Go get 'em, Six! XOXO

      Big added:
Oh, and it has now begun. Leaked draft opinion from SCOTUS: Overturn Roe v Wade AND Casey v Planned Parenthood.
Early legal opinion says this will also overturn the Connecticut decision regarding contraception.
So, Voting Rights stripped. Check. Abortion. Check. Contraception. Check.
And, ofc ourse, LGBTQ+ rights are already int heir sights. Odds as to what's next?

    2. Unions almost always tend to protect workers.
I have been backed up by mine when I've needed it. It was very comforting and it gave me strength to avoid burnout.
I'm gonna let the administration HAVE IT. LOL

      XOXO

P.S. I'm beside myself with the SCOTUS leak. I just literally posted about it!
