I have been telling Upton that I really find those illustrations on the cover of the one-handed reading he's reviewing on his blog totally hot. And I'm not lying. I do find those illustrations in his Acquired Tastes series hot. I find the idealization of the male body in homoerotica is much more palatable to me than in real life. I know, it's weird. It may be related to my penchant for reading the fiction that came in Honcho and Blueboy and Mandate, during those days before the interwebs, or maybe because I know that those fantastic men are indeed the product of somebody's imagination ...

It seems Nikita has been working on art for awhile: apart from an Insta, there's a NikitaRyan webpage and online store. I think it's super cool when artists can publish their output in as many places as they want/can. Really. Is there something as 'overexposure' when it comes to art? That was rhetorical. I like both the illustration of the male body and the illustration of sex acts between men. Because of course I do. And I think we should support the artists who create those illustrations.

"Matt’s demons were always there, ready to pounce and torment him at a moment’s notice. Punishing exercise regimes kept them, and his unwanted desires at bay. Just. Until his worst nightmare forces him to confront the very things he has tried so hard to forget…"

Wait, so there's also M/M romance involved? Sign me in!

I never tire of looking at naked men. Nope. I like looking at naked men in RL, I like looking at naked men in porn, I like looking at naked men in art. I think I just like looking at naked men. It's kind of my thing, you know? When they called the people who were going to objectify men I think I was holding the line already. Hence this post.

I also think I'm partial to this technique. The drawings look both simple and innocent and very, very erotic. I'm not an expert (I'd leave that to Debra, who knows one thing or three about illustration) but it looks like pencil on paper to me and that brings a warmth to the creation that you cannot find often on digital illustration. Of course artists work miracles on an iPad, so I better shut up.

I decided to post Nikita here today because I found his Insta page almost by chance: I was following a link someone provided for M/M romance novels and I ran into that first illustration. And I was hooked. Can you blame me?

That was rhetorical, too, Tootsie.

XOXO

P.S. Of course, his uncensored work on Twitter is even hotter @nikitaryanxx:

Beautiful work! Truly. I used to dabble with pencil but gave that up decades ago. But he's an author, too? It gives me hope of sorts that my erotica might be worthy. I guess the only real way to find out is to push the submit button with a publisher. XOXO

    1. I thought it was pencil, too. It looks fab.
And apparently, he's written some M/M lit. And I think all it takes is pushing that button. I watched part of a documentary about the people who have discovered erotica was their call. Naughty Books I think it was called.

  4. I have read some of those man on man novels back in the day and remember the covers quite fondly.

  5. How fun. Yes. I adore looking at naked men and I adore art, so what a great marriage.

His technique looks like a collection of dots - particularly the his tinted drawings. I knew an artist who used a similar, if not the same, technique. I was always amazed at the patience it must take, but then, I think that is true of all art. Such artists are simply wired differently than us common folk. Kizzes.

I think it's the perfect combination LOL
And I find the technique fascinating. It must take FOREVER to complete a full portrait. And the amount of detail!
I'm forever in awe of artists.
