Oh, Mr. Camilleri....

Here's the thing: nobody has any authority to decide if our house is set up the way it should be or not. Because it's us who live in the house, and therefore what we feel should be placed there or not it's nobody's business but our own. That being said, I love house porn (as Upton calls it) and porn in general, but I digress. I especially like looking at pretty houses and what people have done with them. Be it because I'm looking for inspo for my own place or because I like to imagine what I could do with mine if I had the money or talent to do what other people do with their houses, I love watching house tours.

I love houses that feel like someone actually lives there. As in there are details galore that tell us the stories of the people who own that house. This house for example, even though it is a remodel, it has so much character that it seems it's always been... like it is now. Take this, for example: he literally removed all the tiles in the old house and replaced them. As in he placed them in different places of the 'new' house, hence honoring the tradition and past of that house. How cool is that? How present? And he collected tiles from friends and family (some are a century old!) and used them to give his house that special character it has.

I love that (like me) he enjoys finding and giving use to 'old' things (that record player/radio? I died). You can also see that in the sofa he's got in the living room and the bathroom's piece of furniture where the sink is sitting. He also has some repurposed bookcases and some awesome light fixtures. And that mirror? Yes, please! I could sit here and listen to him tell the story of the stuff he's gotten in his trips or in some old man's garage.

Notice that the white walls work perfectly fine here, as well as the dark walls in the bedroom (another great use of dark paint in a space). And he's right, at the end of the day it's his house and he loves it and he lives there. It is what it is.

And isn't Lyra a total cutie??

XOXO

P.S. isn't he totally charming? And handsome. Yeah, I'm superficial.

  1. Interesting, but way too small. The round mirror 's nice.

    1. Ha!
Probably a whole family lived in the house at one point. But being wasteful is typically American.

And he's absolutely hot. Italians tend to be very handsome.

  3. I loved it!!! He had a bit "to much" for me everywhere, but that is what makes a home. I like being in homes like that and exploring all the little treasures to be seen. The more there, you can really get a feeling for you lives there. My favorite room? The kitchen! Why does a kitchen have to look like a typical kitchen? This is fun and continues his "collections". And don't think I missed his nice little bar cart either.

The only problem with the tour was Lyra was WAY overdressed for the house tour. I sure wouldn't mind seeing that pendulum swing.

    1. Same!
And I did not find he had 'too much'. In his case, the collections all tell a story and I find his sense of color and placement are fantastic. If I tried this approach, people would think I'm a hoarder LOL.
His house has everything that's needed, right?
And Mr. Cammilleri could rock tighter jeans...

I found the work he did with the tiles fantastic. Such a cool reminder of the past of the house! The old light fixtures actually inspired me to find one that is somewhere here in the house and see if I can do something with it.

Way too much for me to live with. But so much great stuff! Those doors. That glass in those doors! The pendant lamps. I noticed that vintage phonograph/radio. Yes, I did. And, oddly enough, I loved the mismatched tiles in the bathroom.
Wish we would've seen the outside. I can imagine it, though, being in Malta. If you could have any style architecture, what would it be? Mid-century modern would be mine. XOXO

    1. Oh, I love all the collections and the little groupings.
The glass doors are fantastic. You cannot find that glass nowadays. Loved the vintage radio/thingy. And the tiles in the bathroom (and around the house) have so much personality!
If I lived in Malta, I'd go full-on Mediterranean with tile roofs and thick white walls.

Ah the stories he tells. I love the variety in the house and the way he has repurposed so much. I believe that is truly a talent.

I could listen to and gaze at him all day. 😜

    1. I would listen to him for hours.
The house is eclectic but the thrift-store feeling is not there. He's got great taste, obviously.
And same, bae, same. He's very sexy, in a quiet, settled way.

  7. I am not sure what story my space would tell. Would it say a Funyun eating, messy but attempting to be neat, scentsy and incense buring, extroverted, attempting to be stylish but can't pull it off, still heartbroken gay without taste man lives here?

I'm sure your place is fine the way it is. It DOES tell a story and that's what matters.
