The Nate & Jeremiah Project.

I love Nate and Jeremiah. Really. They're one of my OTPs and I think they're radically cool and incredibly creative. What they did in this house, is the perfect example that most anybody can have the house of their dreams. That is, if we follow professional advice and have the right tools.

Kidding. It may take having two fantastic interior designers to see past the accumulation of five decades of functional detritus in a house and come up with the results that Nate and Jeremiah came up with in this case. But at the same time, I think this video proves that it is indeed possible to have a stylish, comfortable home even if we start with a more than ordinary abode.

Creative types (Maddie comes to mind) are able to see past the terrible window treatments and the Lazy-Boys and change the way a space is viewed and used. The process may include tearing down some walls and maxing out a credit card at the Homo Depot, but hey. The results, like the ones we see here may be worth the time, dust and money. They even managed to include things that were actually in the house and that mean something to its inhabitants.

That's talent.

XOXO

P.S. I'm forever jealous of people who have pianos in their house.

    Big says,
Well, they did a beautiful job - they always do. The piano was definitely a keeper. The one thing that made me go "Huh?": getting rid of that wood dining table to bring in a wood dining table. But, if the owners didn't want the old one.... XOXO
p.s. Home Despot? Never. They give to the repuglies.

    1. They always do!
And that piano was more than a memento, right? And I think the table suffered because of the style. I'm not an interior decorator, but that would be my guess...

Hahahaha that's my man. No money to the Repugs!!

  2. I'm not a big fan of the open floor plan. I like the formalness of rooms.

    1. I like this open plan.
Houses built in the forties and fifties are very utilitarian and chopped up. Also, light.

Together and individually they have nice credentials in design. Berkus has collaborated with many brands, including Target.

  4. I have always loved them both...and their style is one I can relate to easily. And I agree...I think creative people can walk in a space and see the vision...which is the toughest part of any project....getting the client to see it. I've met Jeremiah several times before he was with Nate when I was with Bloomies installing and enhancing the mess of Rachel Zoe's shop at out 59th Street store. He was so cool and nice and easy to talk too. I thought of trying to get him into a stockroom a couple of times!!! I've always enjoyed his fashion too...a sharp dresser. He is so better off without that harpie Rachel.

Their style y sophisticated but accessible. That's a win. I love how their minds work, too. Fantastic partnership.
Rachel Zoe is a bitch. I also know people who have had to work with her and NOBODY has anything nice to say about her. She leeches off her minions' creativity.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
I’ve seen houses like this in the Chicago area, and can picture the original interiors. Having the ability to visualize what could be (and having the bank to make it a reality) is a true gift. Being able to communicate that to a client can take some doing. But if you have the notoriety and the platform to show them your work, that will make the job easier.

I’ve seen so many shows where the people are renovating a home and hear the price tag, and I think where the heck do they get that kind of money? Maybe if I win the $1 billion Mega Millions, I can have my house redone, while I’m off gallivanting around the world.

Chicago has thousands of houses just like this one. I was amazed at the change. Such a pedestrian exterior but such a fantastic interior.
And I think people spend their savings in their houses, mostly. I think Jeremiah and Nate call on some favors, too.

  7. I love Nate. I also liked his mother when she was on HGTV. I'm with Dave on open floor plans. To me, there is nothing worse than looking at dirty dishes and pot and pans while having Thanksgiving or other big gatherings. Also, the placement of the piano at the front entrance provides too little space to walk through without getting scratched. I've always thought Nate was adorable!

And I didn't know his mom was on HGTV! And I like open floor plans, especially in dingy, small houses like this one.
And they are both super adorable. Really.

  8. I wish I had the talent or could hire someone with the talent to do this to our house. Maybe after the kiddos have departed and I don't have dirty socks in every corner of the house from darling children.

      Same, Mr. Shife. Same.
And I think the moment the kiddos leave for college is the perfect time to do renovations!

  9. I liked that couch. Not the color. But the shape, the rounded edges... I am just amazed by what a disposable society we've become. I think, in our quest to be up to date, we lose out on learning the value of things. And yes, a piano is forever. I can't imagine life without mine. The bed and the piano... the highlights of my life. Kizzes.

    1. I did like the palette overall.
It's not overwhelming and it suits the people in the house. They're not kids.
I think they did a great job by upcycling and reusing things the owners had. That house needed a redo. Badly.
