Let's talk about Uncle Joe's SDRP....

I love it when someone brings the full receipts like Beau did in this video. Conservatives and Repugs are up in arms about Uncle Joe's student debt and universal access to higher education policy. Oh, the wailing. Oh, the talking points: that the working class is gonna pay the debts of doctors and lawyers; that this is removing a tool for the military; and the best one: that they paid their debt, but now somebody else is not paying theirs!

Glorious. Full disclaimer: yes, I worked all through college to pay for my education. No, my parents did not pay for college and yes, I was in scholarships, tuition remission and was a teaching assistant. No, I will not have any debt cancelled. And yes, I am more than happy with this development. I am happy because people I know (some of whom are people of color, some are women, some are LGBTQ people) will receive a tremendous help by having thousands of dollars wiped off their student loans and will be able to stop having two jobs or will be able to improve their living conditions and have a better future. Having access to higher education is something long overdue in a first-world country. And more people should have that opportunity.

XOXO.

P.S.: oh yes.

You KNOW conservatives truly believe this. The same way you know that Trickle Down Economics does not work.

Oh, this was GLORIOUS. And then The White House and others came up with RECEIPTS:

And don't forget Repug hypocrisy is always easily spottable:

Also, it's not for 'the elites':

And finally:

  1. Thanks heavens this happened. And the last bill also. I was getting ready for another rant. This will indeed help many...now hard working folk save money and help with daily living...without fear. Now if we could only get the minimum wage up.....that would be the biggest blessing for spook many.

The Dems have indeed been working. Some things they can pass , some things the Repugs fuck up. And I agree the minimum wage needs to be more and everybody needs to have health insurance.

  2. Also, the GOP has ZERO problems giving tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and corporations so they can take their hypocrisy and fuck all the way off.

You know the Repugs are pissed cause they are NOT getting a cut of anything here. THAT is their main beef: their pockets are not being lined with shady earnings.

This is fantastic news, and though many people in this category are carrying much more debt than this, due to rising education costs, it will help. I’ve seen posts on the bird app where individuals started with $120,000 in education loans and after 10 or more years of making payments, their balance is now $122,000. Yes you read that right, their balance went UP because their minimum payment wasn’t even covering the high interest rates on the loans. This is criminal. So many people will never be able to pay off their debts. And this is AFTER we’ve seen so many debts eliminated because “schools” (for profit) guided students into high rate loans and delivered worthless degrees.

We need better educational and healthcare legislation.

    1. Oh, totally.
But yes, $10000 dollars for someone who makes $70 thousand a year is a LOT of money. And the predatory aspect of those loans!! OMG I cannot imagine. And those for-profit colleges *TRUMPU* are monumental scams. Ugh.

    Big says,
I too worked through college and paid as I took classes. it took me 10 years to get my degree. No scholarships, though I did use GI Bill --- until it expired (which is ridiculous, btw). I think it was the Reagan administration that decided that policy, too.
I think it's terrific that Uncle Joe has done this. The Repukes don't really believ a doctor or a lawyer is making $125k or less, it's their spin to fool their uneducated followers.

P.S. I should be back on Monday.

I did get my degree faster (I'm an overachiever) but I feel you. I found that the Repugs and the MAGAts are one and the same: they believe their own lies.

      yay you're back!

  5. Huntley's right, and the real villains are the banks who keep changing interest rates, and how interest is accrued. That's what infuriates Republicans more than anything else. They are the party of greed. The Biden administration just kicked them in their nuts, hard! Good.

    1. Oh, it was a scheme:
For profit colleges would hook people up and then send them to banks for loans. Then they discovered the degree was bogus (usually unaccredited schools) but people kept the debt. It's all about the money with the Repugs. Always.
Uncle Joe let them HAVE IT.

  6. The warning to Reagan about a "dangerous Educated Proletariat" says it all. The right-wing needs its voters to be uneducated and gullible.

The better to manipulate them. I am constantly in awe of how incredibly ignorant the Repugs are. And willfully so.

  9. Every time I hear this man speak he becomes more and more my hero. People that can think and analyze a thought and then put those thoughts into words are such a rare commodity these days. For most of my life there has been an element in Washington DC that seems to want to have the most under educated and un-thinking populace simply because they can then tell them what to think and not give them any information to form independent thought with. And now with the increase in right-wing members of school boards they are actually dumbing down the curricula. It actually makes me almost glad that I am old enough to believe I will not live long enough to see the results.

    1. Oh, Beau is brilliant.
Don't let the folksy manner fool you. The man is sharp as hell. And you know the Repugs like their constituents stupid and ignorant. It's the only way they would get elected.
School boards and colleges are seeing an onslaught of right wingers. It's frightening.
