Oh, Blake.
You know I'm a sucker for the before/after in houses. Here we see some pictures of what this first floor home would have looked like before this couple snatched it, and we can definitely see how someone's personality can absolutely transform a space. Also, I love it when people use everything that they have inherited (we call it hand-me-downs, daaahlink) and make it part of their home. Like in this case, where Blake literally seems to be using about 70% of the stuff his mom used to have to great effect. I'm kind of sorry I never cared about the furniture my mom had. Looking back, some of the pieces were stunning. But you cannot ask a boy-crazy sixteen year old to care about something as boring as furniture. Right?
But come to think of it my mom had cool taste. I think my favorite would have been her dining room set, that was heavy, dark wood, with slim legs and fantastic upholstery. She also had an awesome credenza that played off the living room furniture and the prettiest boudoir furniture ever. You would take them for CB2 pieces today. There was also a fantastic armoire and her bed was very mod. I don't know where that furniture went. We didn't have an early XX century Chinese étagère, but still. I think my sister may have some pieces from way back that belonged to my mum but I have no idea what happened to the bulk of it. I left my house when I was young and I never really looked back. I'm sorry now I never even asked for a music box or a tchotchke. I would love to have something from those years.
So when Blake talks about the things he got from his mom and the way he's used them in his house, I feel a tiny little pinch of envy. I would have liked some of the stuff my mum had. Really.
XOXO
P.S. I love their banter! And they're cute together. They even joke about going to Dave's Orange Retailer to snatch some cute doors! Maison Dépôt sounds much more inviting. LMAOOOO
beautiful home and charming couple!
ReplyDeleteI think they did a great job!
DeleteIt was really a blank canvas. And they're adorable!

ReplyDeleteHis mother was very wise to take advantage of her position with PanAm to collect items. But I’m sure back then it still wasn’t cheap. There are a lot of lovely pieces, and the story behind the gold plated place settings is amazing.
Their outdoor space is very cozy and adds another great space for entertaining.
And they are a very cute couple.
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
I thought the same!
DeleteShe could travel. She also had to have a sense of style and money. Really.
And the stories are priceless, and I love that he gets to tell them. That's what heirlooms are for.
And they ARE cute.
XOXO
Maison Depot, how cute. You know me and clutter, a little is too much. I thought it interesting when he said his mother's belongings were part of his inventory, not a very sentimental term.
ReplyDeleteHeh it was very cute.
DeleteAnd I don't see a lot of clutter here, though. He's got it all organized. And I think he does appreciate his mom's belongings, obviously. But he's not overwhelmed by them.
XOXO
I love you all the more Sixpence for using the word credenza and know what it is. We have one, and people think I'm nuts when they ask what it is and I reply a credenza. You'd think I have two cocks hanging from my groin.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha
DeleteI do know what it is! I thought everybody knew?? LOL And I'm glad you're educating people. Step by step.
And if you'd have two cocks hanging from your crotch you'd fall over. I know how it is...
XOXO
House porn. Sigh. Nope. Leaves me limp as Nancy Pelosi's husband. What??? Too soon?
ReplyDeleteOh, Upton.
ReplyDeleteYou know how much I like house porn!
And yes, too soon. I heard he's recovering, though...
XOXO
