Oh, Ren...

Meet Ren Kawashiri, J01's performance leader, pushing the boundaries of connectivity through dance.

With this expression, he's overcoming obstacles and championing his creativity by thinking outside of the box. Living by a quote close to his heart, "Originality is nothing but judicious imitation."

I've always been more interested in people who are sui generis than in people who just conform. Conformity could come handy if your life depends on it, like in Iran, where the religious police are threatening to execute 14K people for 'insurrection'. But otherwise, being your own self is the ticket. Of course, this idea has its caveats. Nothing is absolutely original, we are just as original as somebody who was original before we realized it ourselves.

I like the idea of being as original as possible. It's a privilege, after all. Don't believe me? Look at Iran.

XOXO

  1. I look at Iran, its terrible theocracy and I believe you. I found here a nice little biography of Ren

    1. Iran is in upheaval right now because people are revolting.
I think Xtianists in America dream of a theocracy like that, where any semblance of upheaval is crushed. No dissents.
And Ren does have a career as choreographer. I think he's very cool.

Ren has been stealing my moves for years. 🤣😂

What’s coming out of Iran is horrifying. In the UN they sit on the Women’s Rights Committee. Seriously?

I totally believe that, babes. And I can totally believe that Iran is horrible. They have gotten away with literal mass murder for decades. In the eighties they executed between 25,000 to 30,000 political prisoners!! Nobody knows. It's different in the age of the internet. Hopefully.

  3. Big says,
First off, yesterday Blogger wouldn't let me comment on your post. Argh!
Ren's statement about creativity is correct. It has also been said, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
The situation in Iran --- and elsewhere in the world --- is horrific. I wonder how many times the 1st world countries will say "Never again." and watch it happen again and again and again.

    1. Blogger is a pain!
Sometimes I cannot comment on Dave's blog. And Upton's is sometimes a struggle. And I also agree with his statement on creativity. He's smart. He recognizes it and keeps on being creative.
And what is it with these autocrats? In Iran is even worse because it's a theocracy. They feel they can do as they please. They've already killed hundreds and detained thousands of protesters in just eight weeks!!
Totalitarian regimes do not do well with uprisings.

  4. Actually, that 15,000 people being sentenced to death is a lie, and Viola Davis has been censored for spreading it. https://www.thedailybeast.com/viola-davis-censored-by-instagram-over-iran-death-sentence-misinformation Verify what you post before you spread misinformation. As for the creativity? Trying to be trendy, he's telling the world there isn't a single creative thought in his head, so he can't really be pushing boundaries. 😎😎😎

    1. Honey, for a writer, your reading skills are lacking.
Iran brought that death sentence up to vote. 227 MPs in Iran called for the people's execution, as an example. Hence my quotation marks. What I posted is not misinformation, it is data. Here: https://bit.ly/3UVTCK3 . But you obviously did not click on the link, so maybe this one will go unnoticed too.
And I don't think Ren's trying to be trendy, quite the contrary, hence his quote. Again, darling, the forest for the trees. But it's not your first time. Or last.

    2. Sweetie, you need to research more. That link takes you to a page called "Human Events." If you click on that banner you will get to see pictures of Jane Fonda drunk during the filming of Barbarella. If, however, you click on the name Posobiac, it will take you here: https://humanevents.com/daily If you got there, you will find an article about how "you shouldn't believe the Ocultists, Halloween was originally a Christian holiday. Research. Research. Research. Here's the link in case you don't believe me. https://humanevents.com/2022/10/31/posobiec-and-dr-taylor-marshall-halloween-was-a-christian-holiday-from-the-start-but-occultists-are-trying-to-take-it-over

    3. LOL
Yes, Dave. But that does not save you from being reactive. The human events page is trashy, just like the daily beast, hence the quotation marks. The fact is, the MPs in Iran did vote to get those people killed. It's not the first time they've done it, either.
Read better. It'll help you when proofreading.

  5. Sigh. Oh, the very young. I remember the days of taking myself so seriously. Bah ha. I'm enjoying my days of the bare minimum. What this young man is doing? What a lot of work. I can't imagine. And that fake lifestyle! I can't take most of what I see seriously anymore. It's all manufactured and puffed up and painted. I get it... it's an artform in and of itself. But it's not real. It's not flesh and blood. It's marketing. And these days? I'm not buying.

Not like you are what, 102? But you are right, some people tend to do less. And it's a lifestyle. Remember, many people DO live like that. Maybe not us, but for them, that's the life.
