Out of the bars and into the streets
Two unarmed queer men fought back in that bar. One took the gun from the gunman and hit him with it. He was pinning the gunman when he police walked in.
Also, this is how you report an abhorrent act:
Right wingers want queer people dead and gone. They want queer people to feel under the threat of a firearm at all times, they want queer people to feel they are not safe even in their safe spaces. And it’s nothing new. It will only get worse.
In 2022, the American right has sharply escalated its attacks on gay and transgender people and the broader queer community. This escalation shows up in the Crowd Counting Consortium’s data as a steep and sustained increase in the rate of right-wing demonstrations pushing anti-LGBTQ+ claims.
It's not only that they don't want you to get married, or that you have that cake made for your wedding, or that you have the rights other people have. They want you gone. They want you erased. Because one more dirty queer dead is nothing to them.
Think about it next time you diminish their hate campaigns because they have nothing to do with YOU. Think about it before you dismiss the next shooting in a gay bar as 'it's the ammosexuals'. Think about it the next time you feel safe. Think about it because there may not be a ‘next time’.

P.S. wanna start helping?
Great minds think alike. Both of us chose the same topic. 👍👍👍
ReplyDeleteOh, Dave.
DeleteHow I wish I didn't have to write about it. I think EVERYBODY should be talking about this, though. It's stochastic terrorism and it should be stamped down.

Dan Savage always knows just what to say.
ReplyDeleteI know right?
DeleteI don't agree with some things he's said, but when he's right, he's RIGHT.
XOXO
Tragic, but not surprising, given our current climate. We have a thing called Hollydazzle here in Mpls. A parade and it ends in Loring Park. This year, there will be drag queen bingo, a dress up tutorial, and a story hour. People are like - why does it have to be there? Can't anything be without these people. And I told my Mom and The Ex... why not? Why can't gay folk be part of everything? We are here. We are queer. So... just keep on keeping on, my dears. We can't do anything about the angry, ignorant, and misinformed - but we can be ourselves and demonstrate once and for all... we ain't going anywhere, bitches, so get over yourselves. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteAnd, sorry to be that guy, but Dan Savage is a bit of an opportunistic dickhead. I don't want him to be the be all and end all of anything that has to do with the gay community. His track record proves my point. We all have issues, but we don't all present ourselves as the voice of the gay community. Sorry. Yes, I can never keep my mouth shut.
DeleteOh, babes.
DeleteYou're not being 'that guy'. Also, I don't think Dan wants to be the mouthpiece of the LGBTQ umbrella. He, nevertheless, managed to articulate my anger, disappointment and sorrow and that's why I posted his thread here.
And I'm glad you told your mom and the ex that we don't need an 'excuse' to be part of life. We don't need permission to be ourselves.
XOXO
Big says,
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that the Nazis targeted the Queer communities as well as the Jewish ones. It is all part of the same mindset: Rid the face of "others" from the face of the earth. It's all a faction of the White, Fascist, Evilgelical movement. As the old song says, "We have to fight. Fight for our right to party." But the word "party always DID mean "exist." XOXO
Oh, absolutely.
DeleteDemonizing others is an essential part of totalitarianism and fascism. The Evilgelicals love radicalization and the hive mind. Never trust stupid people in large numbers. I never do. Especially when I can get killed because of their stupidity.

As a society I feel we need an uprising on both of these knucklehead parties to get something done. Going forward if of what I vote for are not met I'm voting all new candidates in every single time. This is getting ridiculous. What's it going to take for them to pass any legislation a crazy to go in and start shooting them all up? And you know what I'm not even sure that would prove the point?
ReplyDeleteI meant to say up above if the issues I vote on, by politicians that I voted for don't get past, every election I will literally vote for new candidates.
DeleteBabes,
DeleteI think the worst is the GOP. Legislation does not pass because of them. Look at the defense of marriage deals that are going on right now: the Repugs are hijacking them to introduce religious exemptions. It's always the same.
But I agree that newer, younger (AOC comes to mind) candidates are needed. The presidential elections are gonna be a shitshow.

HuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteThis continues to be so heartbreaking, doubly so since it happens so often against marginalized communities. They have put a target on our backs. Like Maddie, I’m at a loss that nothing is being done. It’s time to yell “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.”
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
I'm exhausted, too.
DeleteAfter the whole elections thing I was spent, and now this? Not even in our safe spaces are we safe? And also, why do we need safe spaces? Why ask for permission to live? Ugh.
XOXO
The right spews hate and then offers thoughts and prayers when teir hate erupts in violence. They can fuck all the way off.
ReplyDeleteThe GED-Criminal-Escort can also shut the fuck up.
Oh, the thoughts and fucking prayers.
DeleteI want to literally slap the hell out of those hypocrites. After they stoke hatred towards LGBTQ people they DARE say thoughts and prayers. It makes me absolutely stabby.
XOXO
every homophobic person wishes we didn't exist or at least that we weren't visible. Just like the first Christians who hid in the catacombs.
