Oh, Tenoch…

@tenochhuerta

When I went to see Wakanda Forever (in a movie theater, mind you!) I knew I was in for a treat. What I did not know is that the treat was going to be  K'uk'ulkan (or Namor, as his enemies call him). The moment that man came out of the water I though: this is it.

There is a certain magnetism is some men that goes beyond their physical beauty. And Tenoch Huerta is a handsome man, or at least I think so. But he's also very attractive, there's sex appeal galore in the way he moves, the way he walks, the way he talks. It's that kind of intense sex appeal that does not need a six pack or big pecs to give me the tingle to mingle. Tenoch is a man, baby. And I did feel that every second he was on the screen. If they make another movie with Namor, I'll be going to the theater to see it.

He's also smart, natch. Here he is talking about what representation means to him:

I think there is something weird in Latin America…well, it’s not weird, it’s normal. In Latin America, especially in Mexico — to be white in Mexico is exactly the same as being white in the States, exactly the same to be white in London, England, or to be white in Europe. The only thing is when the white people from Mexico moves to the States, they are Latins. But if they come back to Mexico, they reserve all the privilege, exactly the same as in United States. So speaking from that point, the representation is important for all the people in Latin America. I hate to say Latins, because America’s a continent. But you take the name for you, and then you make the difference calling us Latin Americans [laughs]. But all of us, we’re Americans.

And I agree. Black Panther does have an incredible diverse cast and the most bad-ass of them all are women. But in Wakanda Forever we get to see Namor's people, who in the movie speak a Mayan language and are inspired by an Aztec myth (well, if they are gonna go in, the better go all the way!), a reimagining of the original Namor in the Marvel comics. I would say the movie won by making this choice of portraying Namor  and his people this way. IMHO it added depth to the story. After all, Atlantis does not relate to the Americas, and the feathered serpent definitely belongs to them. Making the Talokan nation and its people Mesoamerican, adds another layer to the ideas of colonialism that the movie touches.

I definitely like Aquaman, as portrayed by Jason Momoa, but Namor as portrayed by Tenoch Huerta? Yes, please! I also think that making clear they come from different places (Altantis vs. Talokan) leaves room for each character to breathe. I also think that more than an antagonist in Wakanda Forever, Namor is more like a counterpoint to Shuri's Black Panther. They both want to protect their people from the exploitative colonizers. What better way to join forces even though some fights (and deaths) get in the way?

So if you have not seen Wakanda Forever, I strongly recommend it. Not only for the popcorn value and the fanboy experience, but because Tenoch Huerta really is worth the price of the ticket. Also, the moment Shuri says she's going to go see her favorite colonizer? I lost it.

XOXO

P.S. Oh, @tenochhuerta is also a published author and has a very cool youtube channel. Didn't I tell you he's got it going on? Pity it seems he's straight. Alas, he could not be perfect...

He's very cute and sexy. Not a beauty in a classical way, but he's a very sexy and interesting type. One who loves male beauty cannot remain indifferent. I really like him.

    1. Yes, he is!
And I don't really like pretty men. Been there, done them. I much rather do sexy, it adds much more to the man than classical beauty.

  3. I haven't seen "Wakanda Forever" -- waiting for it to stream on Disney+. But I like the reworking of Namor, a figure I never really had much fondness for. About time to have an indigenous superhero!

    1. Oh, you have to see it.
The women warriors? The Queen? It's very female-centric. And there's a couple I was not expecting. Or maybe I was.
I totally love this reworking of Namor. It makes much more sense, and it situates thim in the Americas. Love that he and his people speak a Mayan language.

    Big says,
Yep, I cringe every time I hear a politician say "in America" when they mean "United States." America is everything from Canada to the southern most tip of Chile. And, everyone should remember that countries from Mexico and south were invaded and colonized by the Spanish. Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing the film because Black Panther was a beautiful film. XOXO

Same. So many people do not know that when people in other parts of the world say 'America' they are talking about the continent. And the film is super interesting and full of action. It's thinking popcorn.

My basement flooded the second that man stepped into the screen. He needs his own movie.

  6. I wish they'd written him a stronger part. I'd rather they let him win in the end, and instead killing the Black Pantherette, would made the offer to her that she made to him.

Oh, the origin story was nice and all that but I wanted MORE. And it would have been interesting an ending like the one you propose. But they did set it up in such a way that he could come back. And I will be watching.

  7. Hmmm... something missing in translation... his magnetism must be seen in the flesh? Or on the big screen? I get nada from these photos. :( He's nice looking, but... who isn't these days? Kizzes.

But yes, he's got presence on the big screen. I think you should go see the movie...

Me parece super sexy. Y me ocurre lo mismo con él. Es como la imagen colectiva de algunos hombres latinos, que la tengo sellada en el cerebro...
