"Unhinged"

RuPaul has certainly left behind her hustling days. With season 15 of her hit show, she's demonstrated that it pays to be persistent. And it pays handsomely. Some people (check out Maddie's spot-on analysis) have found some cracks on the polished surface of the Emmy winning RuPaul's Drag Race franchise, but that's something that's expected, especially now that we get to the 15th iteration of the hit reality series.

Nevertheless, I think this kind of program is needed now more than ever. Don't believe me? Check this out, concerning Drag performances:

“In recent months, anti-LGBTQIA+ protesters have descended on these family events, attempting to get into our libraries to disrupt them while shouting homophobic and transphobic slurs at performers and attendees,” they said. “The harmful, homophobic, and transphobic extremism targeting Drag Story Hour events and the New Yorkers who support them, including council members, is vile and dangerous.”

In the past year, some conservative elected officials, right-wing media personalities and anti-LGBTQ social media accounts have characterized the program as inappropriate for children, and some have even gone so far as to describe it as sexually “grooming” minors, perpetuating a decades-old attack on LGBTQ people.

Unhinged are the conservatives, neo Nazis and Xtofascists who have found their new lighting rod. Conservatives say it's to 'protect' children from 'sexualized' shows, but methinks that it's more about preventing children from knowing there's diversity out there and Drag artists, with their 'fuck-you' attitude about gender are perfect targets. It's 'think of the children' all over again, and shows like Drag Race are a slap on the face to all these bigots. Who knew that watching a reality series would be an act against fascism? I'm here for it.

So long live Drag Race. Now on MTV, darlings.

XOXO

P.S. In case you needed an example:

No matter what your position is regarding reality shows involving Drag artists, an attack on one is an attack on all.

  1. Funny the right has a thing about Drag Queens reading to kids, but nary a word about six-year-olds shooting their teachers, or parents posing their children with semi-automatic weapons.

    1. Oh the cognitive dissonance is ridiculous.
And so is the projection: they are the groomers.

They choose to go after the vulnerable and the “other” because their ignorance knows no bounds. They have no answers so they create faux problems to “solve.”

    1. Of course!
And there is an innate bias against anything related to sex or gender. And they're always looking for grievances. Always. Ugh.

  3. When I was growing up I, like almost every other child, grew up in a Disney world where everything was beautiful and flowers opened in slow motion with amazing music as a background. My favorite characters in all those movies were usually the evil witch like Maleficent. Powerful women with a goal in life however malevelent. And, of course, the handsome prince who had a perfect body and a beautiful face and brought the promise of happy ever after to fruition. I did not have Drag Queen Story Hour but I did have a library filled with books and ideas and not only the bad history of the human race but the beautiful hope for its future. I am now almost 75 years old and no worse for the exposure of fantasy and horror and diversity even though all those Disney characters were white and the evil in the world always came from some third world country or from some place where they did not speak english so they were wrong and we were right.

What I did have was exposure to all sorts of ideas and ideals that transended all that and opened me to the happy possibility that we could all live together without hate. Yet, what I see today is so many that are so focused on the differences among us that they are not able to see the similarities. And manifest that as hate.

I still have a lot of hope for us all as a community of mankind (Pollyanna lives) but I am smart enough to know that it will probably not happen in my lifetime.

    1. I love this!
And you are right: being exposed to different kinds of ideas is essential. That's why people get an education. Duh. And you know that conservatives will forever focus on their grievances and their boogiemen in order to keep power. As for the villains, they were always so much more interesting than those sleeping beauties!
One thing though: I was also influenced by the idea of waiting for a prince. Ugh. I should know better.

    Big says,
[******sigh******] It's always "for the children." It's the politician's favorite slogan - along the entire political spectrum. Whenever I see that phrase used in support of legislation, I throw up in my mouth. The right-wing seems to use it more than the left, and always, always, always as a means to throttle any kind of social progress. If only they would use it to get guns off the streets. And lock up the religious pedophile pastors and priests. As Moran says above ^^^, it will not happen inmy lifetime. [******sigh******] XOXO

It riles up the ignorant idiots just fine and it's reusable. Think Of The Children appears on Wiki as a phrase, it's been used so much. You know the xtianists and the fascists hate progress because it forever means that they have to recognize they are WRONG.

  6. What conservatives want is Total Control. Going after Drag shows and queens is jut the tip of the iceberg. This is why they always include religion, they believe it gives them Devine right.

That's the name of their game. Control of the fags and control of the colored and control of the little women. They want it to be 1943.
And religiosity is the cover-all, excuse-all idea they always brandish.

  8. The way I view it is try as they might, they best think twice of trifling with a queen. Because honey Queens have no problem taking the jewels off, snatching their wig, and flicking the nails off. Cuz as We Know he did not piss off a drag queen, and the numbers they will beat their asses. Like Bob said. They should be more concerned about parents and there 6-year-olds carrying guns, and the priest who keep molesting children. And as far as I know to my knowledge, the Queens doing the reading hours or more wholesome Queens like Nina West. I don't think you're going to see the racy Queens doing reading hours.

  9. you can imagine what huge problems Drag Queens can create... With all the problems there are in the world (poverty, disease - do you remember COVID?, climate change) there are people who take care of Drag Queens.
