Oh, Ron....

You know that by the time they've said 'a 1969 mid-century' house I was in, right? And only being the second owner of a mid-century house? Priceless. It would also please those of you who like space: four bedrooms and three and half bathrooms. Still too small for you? Maybe you'd like this one.

I think this is a very nice house. Airy and with great light, it's exactly what I like in mid-century architecture. I also like the way he used color to bring out the features in each room. And I applaud his taste for comfy chairs. Why have a chair if it's going to be super uncomfortable?? Duh.

I would have loved to keep the windows to open into the courtyard. Can you imagine it in the summer? And the idea that the courtyard is actually the light to the hall light? A giant lamp that fills the whole house which is built around the courtyard. Mid-century, man. I love that he has the pieces from Virgil Abloh's Ikea collection. Absolutely jealous. And how about the Gray room? Love. And he does not have a TV in the bedroom. Same.

XOXO

  1. I like the California midcentury homes because they're more open and have greater expanses of glass. But this one is quite elegant, and love the dark somber rooms..

    1. That's one of the things I like most about Mid-Century: the light.

  3. I like the courtyard, but can't stop thinking about how those lights are gonig to attract every moth for miles, and miles, and miles. And not only moths. That's why the courtyard is almost completely sealed off. No one wants to be the main course.

    1. The idea in most mid-century homes is the indoor-outdoor living, especially during the day. In this case, they created the illusion of the courtyard being a lamp in itself during the night, that's why they probably sealed some of the doors. I don't know about keeping them open during the night, though...
The light is going to attract insects, that's why people use citronella.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
This is a fantastic home. I was astonished when they said it was over 3000 sqft. He does love his large format art, but since the walls are so high, it all works. I love the way he redid all of the rooms.

Oh and that alternate “home” you linked to? GAUDY!

    1. It is!
And it's not small. It's just the way it was built. And I'm with him with large format art. It really is a statement.
And that home is here, in Chicago. LOL talk about excess.

This is stunning. 'Course, just say "mid-century modern" and I'm all in. Love the idea of that courtyard. The only thing I would change would be to lighten up those dark walls of the bedroom. Other than that, it's what one would call "move-in ready." XOXO

The McMansion you linked to? Yeah. Dude can keep that monstrosity.

    1. LOL same.
The courtyard does it for me, too. I really love the idea of having something like that inside the house. And strangely, (because I like white so much) I liked that color in the bedroom. Very moody.
And that McMansion is a horror. Bet someone will buy it soon.

Who knew? But I think a house like this doesn't really need much. The devil is in the details...
