the Queerties 2023
Jon form Moran-Newman Farms was talking a few days ago about how some LGBTQ people are not really taking some battles seriously. And I agree. With so many bills targeting Trans people, so many bills targeting Drag artists, and even bills targeting gay marriage (yes, honey, they are coming for your picket fence dream, too) the current climate seems more akin of 1963 than 2023.
Some LGBTQ people do not seem to celebrate all things Queer. And they don't have to. Hey, if someone does not feel like they can appreciate Queer culture, more power to them. They just sit down and watch the world go by, taking for granted their marriages, the PrEP they are taking, the books they can read and the movies and tv programs they can enjoy that have Queer content. LGBTQ people are enjoying their hookup apps and the freedoms they currently have oblivious of the fact that someone else fought that battle FOR them. All those freedoms did not come out of thin air: there have always been people who have burned a trail for us to follow. Activists, artists and the unsung garden variety queer folk have left a mark in the history of LGBTQ rights.
That's why I'm posting The Queerties here today. Because I'm sure you (like I did) have no idea who some (or most) of these people are. These are the people who are actively working today to make us more visible, to make us more relevant, to make us more real to the world. It's worth taking a look at the people whose faces and work are known to other generations. Because they may be the future.
Happy viewing!

P.S. how delish is Rufus?? How fucking funny is Bianca???
HuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteWe do have to remember that there is history of our movement. And we also have to remember that history repeats itself, so of course they’re working to roll back everything that was fought for.
And thanks for the Queerties babe. Something to watch at lunch. 🍿
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
Oh, if we do not know history, we're doomed to repeat it.
DeleteThe Queerties were a blast and so very endearing!
XOXO
We are not all alike, and we don't all want the same things [like marriage] but if we don't fight for equality, then none of us will have it. And going back to the closet is not a fucking option.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Yes.
DeleteWe are all Queer. And not one right we have earned is permanent. It's all in or all out: if they are not with us, they are against us (I'm side-eyeing the Log Cabinettes).
XOXO
Queers are widespread (also in TV) in a backward primitive land like Italy. One would have to live outside the universe not to see them. We now have a right-wing government which certainly doesn't make things easier but let's hope we don't go back to 1963 (or even 1993, to be honest!)
ReplyDeleteHahaha
DeleteWell, Italy probably does have some very backwards pockets. There's that. And you do have a very right-wing government right now. I'm amazed they have not rolled back rights at this point....
And I don't want to go back. Not even one year.
XOXO
In 2016, civil unions (Unioni Civili) were introduced ( here) and those will remain. The government and Parliament is trying to hinder homogenitor families with children. This is the current situation.
Delete"The price of liberty is eternal vigilance."
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely.
DeleteThe Banana Republic gays think they've got it done cause they have kept their expendable income and go around preaching to the god of conspicuous consumption and their Caribbean cruises but they'll feel it too. The second they cannot show their gym-toned asses everywhere they'll scream bloody murder.
XOXO
Big says,
ReplyDeleteIt's getting more and more aggravating every day. It's going to be impossible to permanently shut them up. The only real answer is to VOTE, VOTE, VOTE. Get them out of places where they can restrict the rights of others. Pundits are saying, "Oh, we need to listen to them and understand their pain." Bullshit. We already know their pain: There was a Black man that was elected POTUS. We know their fear: BIPOC are soon going to outnumber them (why do you think they've overturned Roe), and LGBTQ are living and working and, yes, thriving among them. XOXO
It is!
DeleteIt is also exhausting because the Xtianists want to oppress EVERYBODY who is not like them. And we do NOT need to listen to them. Fuck them and their sanctimonious fuckery.
XOXO
I'm astounded by the Repulsivcan's ability to still whip people up about us gay folk. But I suppose they can still pull in a pretty penny doing so. I'm hoping the millennials and younger generations will eradicate the hate. They have no concept of 1952 - so no desire to revisit it. Thing is... there should be term limits. Do we really want a racist homophobic 88 year-old from Iowa named Grassley deciding the world's fate? Do we want turtle-neck Mitch, who only cares about his bank account, running things? No. They don't represent anyone anymore. They've become institutions which people with no imagination and no gumption keep voting back into office because they fear the new. Well, my dear... it's time to shelve that kind of thinking. I am all for a progressive, fresh perspective when it comes to the US. Bernie scared me... he doesn't anymore. Those that were with him, instead of her? They knew what they were talking about, but people like me... who believed in the status quo - oh, don't go shaking the tree too hard now - weren't listening. I'm listening now. They were right. The old dinosaurs have to go... It's time for fresh blood and progressive thinking. Screw the fear mongers. Screw the media. And screw the rich. It's time for their comeuppance - the one they so richly deserve.
ReplyDeleteOh, all the repugs have to say is 'think of the children' and everybody falls in step. Did you think that ended with Anita Bryant??
DeleteBernie is not the solution, he's an idea that will never happen ins consumerist, nationalist, industrialist, capitalist United States. He's way to the left of anything this country will ever allow. I don't believe in the status quo, but I don't believe in idealistic promises either.
Eat the rich, though. That I agree with wholeheartedly.
XOXO
Thanks for sharing this, Sixpence. I have no idea who they are but I am grateful for them and appreciate all of the work they are doing to make the world a better place.
ReplyDeleteNo problem, Mr. Shife!
DeleteThey are young and idealistic and they have great ideas. They are also as queer as a three dollar bill and I love them all.
And thanks for being and ally!
XOXO
It may be difficult to believe, but things have come so far since I was a teenager. The young people I work with don't seem to have a lot of preconceived gender barriers. The awards are great, though they definitely don't get the recognition they observe.
ReplyDeleteI know right?
DeleteGay marriage is as recent as 2015! Ten years ago Grindr was a novelty. It's been leaps and bounds every five years or so.
The awards are super cool. I think they were voted by the public. There's some very cool people there.
XOXO
