SCOTUS on Mifepristone

I like a cheeky take on politics just as the next guy, but this one got me. Cenk Ygur is what I like to call 'progressive'. Somebody who approaches politics with a very, very cynical perspective and sometimes that's very refreshing.

I think Cenk has reasons to be as cynical towards SCOTUS as he is (he reminds me of an ex, natch) and I sometimes listen to his takes because they are mostly accurate (see the predictions they made about the abortion pill) and because Alex Jones sued the Young Turks and the Daily Caller tried to smear them. When the right wingers fear you, you may be doing something right. But among all this cynicism, remember that the ones coming for your rights are not the Dems: it's the Repugs. The Rethuglyclowns and the conservatives are the ones going after reproductive rights and LGBTQ rights and they are not stopping. Don't forget that.

I take what The Young Turks say with a grain of salt, but remember that there's always more than a grain of truth in all these takes from the far left...

XOXO

    HuntleyBiGuy:
There was a time not too long ago that SCOTUS was respected and almost revered. But the current bent courtesy of Bitch Mitch, 💩 and the Federalist Society has trashed that thought and I don’t think they will ever recover.

    1. I know, right?
The whole country had such a high opinion of SCOTUS. Just five years ago. All the conservatives that have gotten on it are trash. Fuck the turtle.

  2. The Court's decision on mifepristone has more to do with the fact that their decision to overturn Roe v Wade was so horrifically unpopular and conservatives have been paying the price in elections. This is also why Alito's dissent was not only aimed at the women on the Court, but at women in general, for their not accepting his authority.

    1. Well, that too.
But they sent it back because they are testing the waters. And Alito is a dick, you are right.

  3. It's very common and entirely consistent with legal precedent to stay lower court decisions pending the hearing and decision of the full appeal so I don't think this particular development is a case of his "follow the money" theory being right. But we'll see how his reasoning pans out in the actual full appeal decision when that is argued and decided a few months/years from now.

    1. Yeah, I agree.
There IS money involved (Cavannaugh's debts, for example, and Clarence's vacations and heaven knows what else) and it's obvious. But there's more to it. This is a move that has been planned for years and years by conservatives, starting in the lower courts.
Gay rights is next. Florida is already testing the waters on that under the guise of 'religious freedom'. Mark my words.

  4. Big says,
Debra is right. But don't for one second think it won't reach SCOTUS (again) and get banned. The 6 are there for the singular purpose of taking the country down the path to a theocratic autocracy. The extremists will not stop until they have taken down democracy by hook or crook --- mostly by crook. XOXO

    1. Oh, that's a possibility.
As Dave says, they have seen how Dobbs has backfired on conservatives. But they do want that theocracy. They can almost taste it.

  5. About Fifty shades of Whey. I (mis)read
Remember not to have sex with conservative men. THEN hate you.

I believe there is some truth to my mistake. First they want to have sex with you, and then they hate not only you but also the part of themselves that made them have sex with you. I am referring, of course, to homosexual relationships.
I Italy, a gay man in the closet belonging to a right-wing party was outed just a few days ago. This type of outing in my opinion is right, because it unmasks hypocrisy.

    1. I couldn't agree more with your last two sentences. That's the case where I think their ass should be outed with a huge billboard off Interstate 95.. pictures included!

    2. That was the perfect Freudian slip, Xersex.
And outing a closeted conservative should be mandatory in all and every occasion. With a billboard, as Maddie suggests!

  6. I enjoyed that video thanks for posting that, I can see some of myself with their views. Over the last 5 years I have definitely been swaying more towards Progressive than anything else now. And I agree with what Huntley says. Supreme Court used to do the right thing and what they were in place for. Now it's become too partisan political going forward ...and that will never work. I'm not sure how to fix the Supreme Court of the United States ...if that breaks just yet another fucking fly the ointment.

I do consider myself more to the left of the current crop of Dems. Kind of a Progressive (but not Libertarian, no). SCOTUS should be balanced. There's nothing written that it MUST be a certain number of justices. They also have to impose age/term limits.
