The Old Gays

Here's the thing: I have always heard that once you reach 'a certain age' you have to (in Bob's famous words) Google 'who gives a fuck' and find out that your name is NOT in the search results, but I had never really considered it. That is, until I found @theoldgays

If you didn't know, @theoldgays is a groups of gentlemen (Robert, Jessay, Mick and Bill) who have found their way to social media and have turned it on its head. I despise social media as a construct, but I think that giving gay men of a certain age (remember gay men cease to exist the moment they turn 30 and/or when they are not considered sex objects by the gay gestapo anymore) a place to be incredibly interesting and unabashedly funny  is a total win. At least in my eyes.

You see, the Old Gays do whatever the fuck they want to do: they talk about their sex lives, they do drag, they go through makeovers, they dance, they engage in all kind of absurd and delightful shenanigans and get into speedos at the least provocation. THAT is not giving a fuck. That is Punk Rock. Especially considering that some gay men can be real cunts and be ageist, body shaming, misogynistic little shits from hell at the drop of a bathing suit.

I adore the Old Gays and hope to reach that point where I absolutely do not give a fuck about anything or anybody (I'm getting there, natch). And get to a place in which I can go around being an absolute nightmare to all the entitled, vacuous, spoiled little gays who think being twenty and having a hard dick and a flat stomach is the ne-plus-ultra of gay life.

Well, here's the Old Gays, ready to gracefully tell them to fuck right off. They are my role models.

XOXO

So much fun. They also have TikTok but I don't do social media. Besides, they repost the TikToks on insta.

  3. Big says,
They've got it going on. My take on the young'uns is, even after the little Q&A, they still don't get it. "Lived through a tremendous amount of pain" is an understatement. When you lose friend and colleague after friend and colleague and nobody outside the community gives a shit.... Compound that with a large faction of the straight world expressing their wish that all gays die. That, my friends, is pain. Deep, deep pain.
Us old geezers may not be ripped, we may have lost some (or all) of our hair, the skin may sag...but, possums, we're the ones who paved the road for you to be who you are. And, miraculously, we're still here. XOXO

These guys are terrific, though. They're excellent role models. Pay them some attention. XOXO

    2. I think that's one of the things I'm kind of thinking about when I think of getting older: friends and family passing. And did you see these guys? They don't give a shit about physical appearance and they seem to be getting more action than some younger (attractive) men I know! LOL
The Elders should always come first. And they do have something to say!

I love how they pause before they talk, too. Age: it does not come without experience.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
When you’ve been around the sun a number of times, there comes a time where you’re just tired of all the BS and you just say “fuck it.” At some point you’ve EARNED respect and should be heard. These icons are living their best life and having fun. What more could you ask for.

  8. I can tell you this much. If I'm in a bar and their is a group of young jocks and old queens...I'm bee lining over to the old queens. Far more interesting conversation and stories. When I used to go to the Raven, I got some great first -hand stories from some queens...from Stonewall, Fire Island Studio 54 and so forth.

And I might have put out for one or two. Hey...one was a very sexy daddy.

    1. Oh, absolutely.
The young gays cannot carry a conversation. AT ALL. And they get drunk and make a fool of themselves. One of my friends was Papa John. He LIVED the seventies and eighties. He was so much fun. He passed recently (he was an AIDS survivor) but having a KiKi with him was a blast!!
And have you seen their pics when they were younger?? YOWZA!

  9. I wanted the Logo video to just go on and on. Being an old gay (just turned 75) I can only repeat what was said in the RuPaul video...;"growing old is not for the faint of heart". You are increasing surrounded by loss and grief that you have to fight through every day of your life. You do find that life is still an exciting and wonderful thing but there are a lot more shadows then there were when you were 30. Now I just need to find an app for old gays to meet and learn to use it I suppose.

    1. They have another video on Logo! You should check them out.
And being older and gay is a privilege. We don't have a lot of Elders in the community: AIDS took a whole generation of men away from us. And it is true that growing old is not easy.
And I just let you some ideas in your blog about dating apps for gay seniors. I was curious!!

    2. Yay! I have to say... I am actually enjoying growing older as a gay man - and there was a time - not so long ago - when that was not true FOR ANYONE. I think social media has done a lot of good for older gays. We stay up on things, thanks to blogs like, oh... I don't know... THIS ONE RIGHT HERE! And the grindr/sniffies whatever... they put us in contact with younger folk who actually appreciate us for who we are and still see us as sexual beings. I don't feel cut off. I don't feel censored.... though I must say I had to read the beads of an ageist f*cktard the other day who called me an old dog and told me I scare all the young ones away from the prairie. I don't take that sh*t from anyone... especially a bitter queen who can't get any (he's 35). But I don't buy into the negative stuff... that is - well - OLD thinking. I'm planning on having a hoot until my hoot no longer toots. Thanks for sharing this one, doll. Kizzes.

    3. I know.
We live in a very ageist society (and that can go both ways) but the internet has changed the landscape and it has given voice to the voiceless. And how can someone who is 35 be so obtuse? Well that was rhetorical. He's the one who seems a little bit overwhelming.
And having a hoot until the hoot toots no more is the way to do it!

      XOXO
