#CRT

Ok, so can you explain what Critical Race Theory is in let's say, a paragraph? If you can, congrats! You know that the screams coming from Fox News are all bullshit and that #CRT is not the boogieman the propaganda machine the Right in America would have you believe. But the garden variety citizen in America probably cannot tell you what CRT is, and states like Texas (well, duh) are more than willing to take advantage of that and erase any talk of race and racism from the classroom:

And the TPPF is just who you think they are:

The Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) is a conservative think tank based in Austin, Texas. The organization was founded in 1989 by James R. Leininger, who sought intellectual support for his education reform ideas, including public school vouchers. Projects of the organization include Right on Crime, which is focused on criminal justice reform, and Fueling Freedom, which seeks to "explain the forgotten moral case for fossil fuels" by rejecting the scientific consensus on climate change.

Reading who they are is like reading a shopping list of fuckery and their description of CRT is not what CRT actually is. And why, would you ask, am I talking about this today? Well, because today we celebrate Juneteenth and yesterday someone asked me: '... so why is it that we do we celebrate Juneteenth?' and I was, of course, ready:

On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger went to Galveston, Texas, with other federal soldiers and walked the streets reading General Order No. 3, a document declaring the slaves were free. The following year, on the anniversary of his walk, the freedman celebrated.

It’s important to know that the announcement in Texas came two years after Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863, and that the official end of slavery didn’t happen until the ratification of the 13th Amendment in December 1865. Almost immediately after slavery was abolished, the former Confederate states attempted to reinstall a white supremacist regime; they waged a violent campaign throughout the South, crushed the short-lived Reconstruction era, and ushered in Jim Crow, the effects of which we’re still living with today. Juneteenth may be considered a cause for celebration, but it’s also the day that marks a new chapter of post-slavery America: the beginning of the long, difficult march toward racial equality that continues today.

It's not surprising then, that Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas signed laws in 2021 prohibiting the teaching of Critical Race Theory and now he has signed a bill banning diversity initiatives in public universities:

According to the bill, institutions are barred from considering “race, sex, color, or ethnicity” in hiring practices. The bill specifically states all hiring practices must be “color-blind and sex-neutral.” Furthermore, institutions may not conduct required trainings, programs or activities for staff or students focusing on “race, color, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation.” This will eliminate diversity statements common in the admissions and hiring processes.

Additionally, DEI offices will be discontinued. Employees staffing such offices may receive a letter of recommendation if found to be in “good standing.” No provision of the bill provides terminated staff reassignment to open positions within the state university system.

Oversight will be provided by the state auditor. Institutions will be audited at least once every four years. If a violation is found and not corrected, the institution may be denied scheduled funding increases, “institutional enhancements,” or other “exceptional items.”

So yeah. Abbott has literally kneecaped and held hostage any diversity offices and programs in public colleges and universities, literally promoting white supremacy. So it would not come as a surprise to learn that Abbott and the TPPF are thick as thieves. I found references to the TPPF in Abbot's own website. White supremacy at work in plain daylight.

So that's the future of the United States if the Repugs take over. Expect this kind of fuckery to be at your door if let's say, Meatball Ron wins the presidency or if the repug who was elected dog catcher three years ago suddenly runs for governor of your state. Because the GOP goal is to stifle any discussion of race or diversity (yes, the gays fall in 'diversity, hunty) in America. So happy Juneteenth!

XOXO

    1. Correct.
They don't want people to KNOW. And people fall for it.

  3. The other thing I get sick and tired of is when I hear people say oh look another made up holiday! Boy, that's enough to burn one's ass. While we may not be proud of all of our history in the US, it's very important everyone knows all of it whether we like it or not. And has somebody told the South that we are in 2023 now?

    1. Ugh.
That was my beef! People have no idea what the holiday means or why it was created (well, many people are not the sharpest tools in the box, either). And you know most of the the South lives like it's 1953.

  4. I saw a Tweet from a teacher thanking the GOP in Florida for banning the teaching of CRT because now all his kids are asking about it and want to know what it is; it's like banning books, people always want to know what is being banned and why.

    1. Well, there's that.
And the thing is that CRT is not even really 'taught' as CRT in K-12. It's more like a Higher Ed kind of thing. But the racists do not want any of those things appearing in the graph above taught: it would make the whites 'uncomfortable'.

  5. About race, this is out Art. 3 (here what is it)

All citizens have equal social dignity and are equal before the law, without distinction of sex, race, language, religion, political opinion, personal and social conditions.

obviously these distinctions are not always respected, but at least it is written in our highest law.

    1. And that's the way it should be!
In the United States, it's just part of the 'Home of the brave, land of the free' pleasantry. For many people, racism is their daily bread.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
I remember growing up as a wee one in the 1960s attending the Chicago Public Schools and being taught CRT in the 3rd grade. Yeah, that didn’t happen, just like it isn’t happening anywhere now, or before these turds started screaming “FIRE!” at school board meetings. It’s all just to preserve their fragile hold on their lily white racism.

One thing that I was taught is to respect those around me and listen to their realities. Though I didn’t grow up with any Black people in my neighborhood, there was an influx of Hispanics that some around me took as a threat. It ended up that my best friend from that period was a Mexican and we had a great time together.

And Bob brings up a great point. Make something hard to get and people will seek it out. How’s that porn ban going?

Correct. And they have gotten away with that lie, crippling school programs and now going to Higher Ed. They want people to be ignorant about the past of this nation. That way, they are more malleable to the Repug's lies.

I hope they keep doing stupid shit. That way, their fall will be even louder.

  7. Big says,
Oh, I absolutely can explain CRT in a simple paragraph. Damn shame that those who totally rail against it (christofascist white folks) don't have a clue as to what it actually is. Fear drives them; they're so afraid that once they're truly the minority that they will be treated as poorly as they have treated the current minorities. Abbot and DeCompesMentis are two peas. All we can do is support the Dems, spread the word about the repugly condidates and VOTE. Get a supermajority in both legislative houses and executive branches at local, state, and federal levels.
    Happy Juneteenth!

    1. Well, Big
You are not a dummy living in Texas, where they tend to believe everything the GOP tells them. They have no idea what it is and they stay with the most sensationalized version they can get. It's their own damn fault.
That's why I keep saying that both parties are not the same. Voting. Voting is the only remedy.

  8. Happy Pride and Happy Juneteenth, Sixpence! Thanks for the additional details and insight. Abbott is a giant flaming turd and it's a darn shame that someone like him who has probably faced discrimination because of his wheelchair isn't more sympathetic to marginalized folks.

And Abbott is indeed a turd. And you are right, him being in a wheelchair should give him some insight. But he's a rich white Repug, so he does NOT care about others...

  9. I always laugh when parents complain that they don't want their kids to feel bad about what happened in the past... what are they? Snowflakes? History is history. Fact is fact. It HAPPENED. All of it. Get over it. White privilege is all about making life pleasant for themselves. Well... let's break on through and fuck up their 1952 version of life. I rather enjoy messing with their comfort levels. Kizzes.

    1. Oh, it's the pinnacle of privilege and the outmost entitlement: they don't want to be bothered. History is going to be definitely one that we'll have to fight for. Just look at Texas...
I'm also always up to fuck up their pleasant, blind, racist lives.
