Let's talk about bothsiding things....

That was the question I asked Huntley: "Why the fuck did they vote with the Repugs?".
His answer: "politics". And he's right.

But the Repugs and the Dems are NOT the same. They don't have the same garbage politics. They are different. What we don't understand is the back and forth of politics: it does not always move in the direction of what we 'progressives' call 'progress'.

The revolution we want will not happen overnight: change is going to have to come up from the bottom up. That is why saying 'both parties are the same' is really not the best strategy: that would only reduce voter turnout for a political party. Convincing people that both parties are the same is the best thing that can happen for the Repug party. Acting dejected because things are not happening as fast or the way we want them to happen will not change anything.

Not engaging in politics is the worst thing we can do. Thinking that politics are 'other people's problem' and that it's all about 'the two same old parties' is both self-defeating and conductive to actually not changing anything. The Dems are not the same as the Repugs. Just get out of your comfort zone and ask women in states where abortion is being banned, ask LGBTQ people that have seen their lives upended by conservative politics, ask people whose right to vote has been literally erased, ask people whose lives in this country are threatened by something they have not done.

Stepping out of our comfort zone comes handy at times.

XOXO

P.S. Milwakee Pride was a blast! Wish you could have been there…

P.P.S. When going to Pride is actually a political act because conservatives are trying to erase you…

Happy Pride!

  1. People who say "both sides are the same" don't understand politics. Or reality, for that matter.

I cannot understand how the differences are not stark enough for people to notice.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
Yes there were some Dems in the house that voted against the debt limit bill. Why was that? Some of them are in red districts and are looking to stay there to affect change. Some felt that the bill wasn’t progressive enough and wanted changes. But what a lot of them did was hold back on their votes to ensure that the bill had enough votes to pass. They knew what was on the line-a default on the debt would have been catastrophic for the country. If the bill was in danger of not passing, they would have done what was right for the COUNTRY and voted for the bill. Whereas on the repug side , they would vote to burn it all down, regardless of the consequences.

Now tell me they’re two sides of the same coin.

Yep. That's exactly what I thought, too, as we watched the vote count. They were playing the game exactly as they should have.

    2. Thanx, babe.
Seriously. Dems are there to do their job: work for the country. Do they get involved in politics? It's in the job description!

  3. Remember, the party that wants to put LGBTQ+ Americans BACK into the closet will NEVER be on the right side of history, because once they get us out of the way, they'll come for the rest of you ... for your faith, or lack of faith, your skin color, your ethnicity, your gender, your age, your socioeconomic status, for anything they suddenly find dangerous to them.
Are all GOPers like this? No, but the ones who aren't, aren't speaking up, so ...
    CAST A GODDAMNED VOTE!!!

It's the same old.. "First they came for the Drag Queens and I did nothing..." People do not seem to be able to react until they get fucked.
Not all repugs are racist, homophobic, misogynist assholes. But racists, homophobes and misogynists are very likely to be repugs.
      Vote, people!

Yes, there are some Dems who are pissed off and think that Debt deal should have been dealt the death blow --- but the Dems are not dumb. They know who would've been blamed in '24. They really are beginning to understand playing the long game. The answer to right all the wrong that is happening: VOTE. VOTE. VOTE.

    1. I agree with you here.
The Dems are not dumb and playing the long game is the strategy here. They are thinking 2024 because it's going to be ugly and they need tangible results to show.
And somebody told me that 'vote Blue no matter who' is dumb. I kind of laughed. But it worried me.

  5. Glad you had a wonderful time in Milwaukee and I hope the rest of Pride Month is a blast. The way I see it is that the Republicans are doing everything they can to suppress the vote or take away votes from Democrats because that is the only they way they can win with the changing demographics. I do wish some of the Dems would fight as dirty as the Republicans.

And the Repugs cannot win this game if they play by the rules, therefore, they suppress voting, try to rig the elections and gerrymander everything. And I also wish some of the Dems would slap a bitch sometime. But they're too polite.

  6. Dave tells me all the time that's my issue, and he is right.... I do not have any patience whatsoever when it comes to trying to get things pushed forward. And I think since Obama left office I've had a very hard time trusting many politicians which doesn't help. Some my friends think I get very fiery and should go into politics and it's for that same very reason that I can't because my impatience would not allow me to make any Headway and Id piss everybody else off because things may have way too slowly in this country, and then I have to whip my three dragons out! LMAO!!! What confused me was was when we had all three branches of the government I was surprised we didn't actually push more through than we did. But yes .. in the long run we need to keep the Blue Wave going and keep Democrats in office and throw in more progressives for good measure.

I was at the Philadelphia gay pride festivities this weekend and that was a freaking blast. It might have been one of their top two heaviest attended events yet with exception to World Pride year. And it was nice to see less corporate bullshit with the parade and Festival took more of a Grassroots Feel Again it was lovely.

I would vote for you in a heartbeat. I think you would be a great politician and you'd move forward some very progressive ideas.
And I can just imagine Philly Pride! Woot woot!

  7. Three Cheers for Huntly! And it's not only Red districts, it's also campaign promises they made. This keeps their constituents happy and hopefully gets them elected so they can push through a more progressive agenda.

    1. It took me a second to get his idea, but it totally makes sense.
They are working for (and with) their constituents, contrary to what the Repugs do. I cannot imagine how difficult is to push progressive agendas when they come from Red states/districts...

  9. I agree. We don't have a choice when it comes to being politically involved. You're an idiot if you think you can live with your head in the sand. And change is slow... but that is because it is generational! Younger generations are more aware, more evolved and more hip. They don't hold the same value system as WWII vets. I'm glad the older generations are dying off... and, yes, I realize there are a number of stupid people out there who are still misinformed who are part of those younger generations... but they are also lazy, so I think they will just stay in their parent's basement drinking energy drinks and eating doritos and skip politics.
