Let's talk about SCOTUS, unity, and a talking point....

Ok, so last Friday was a clusterfuck of bad news and I'm confused as hell with the decision of SCOTUS of enshrining discriminations against LGBTQ+ people, all because conservatives bought themselves several seats in SCOTUS. What in the everlasting fuck?

I am also thoroughly flabbergasted about this ruling. I've read your blogs, I've read newspapers and think pieces online about it and still I cannot figure it out? The only thing that is clear is that the bigots in SCOTUS, bought and paid by the Rethugs and the Religious Wrong, are doing incredible damage to Women's, racial minorities and LGBTQ+ rights.

Justice Sotomayor put it in a nutshell:

“Today,” Sotomayor wrote, “is a sad day in American constitutional law and in the lives of LGBT people.” She is correct. 303 Creative will haunt every same-sex couple seeking any kind of service to celebrate their wedding—or their engagement, or the birth of their child, or any other aspect of their lives. Suddenly, they have lost the protections of civil rights law, and are at the mercy of individual businesses. Gorsuch cast his decision as a victory for civil rights. But this is emphatically not what the Civil Rights Movement fought for.

All I know is that we (and I mean like-minded people, not just The Queers) need to be united and present in a situation like this. It reminds me of those 'more than one issue' voters who decide to stay home and do shit because they 'didn't like the candidate'. Remember, first they came for women and their reproductive rights and people did nothing because they do not want to reproduce. Then they came for Affirmative Action and people did nothing because they do not have student debt. Then they came for the Gays and they did not thing because... oh, wait. You're next.

So now, if you please explain to me like I’m ten years old, what this last ruling about a wedding website designer that has not designed any wedding websites for any gay couples (the man mentioned in the suit is straight and a web designer himself) means to you, I'd be very thankful.

kthnxbi.

P.S.  hate them all.

  1. Currently in Italy we have the most right-wing government and parliament since Italy came out of Fascism and became a republic. (1946). Therefore, also for the Italian LGBT world, it must defend the very few rights it has achieved so far. We can only hope that they ignore us!

    1. OMG I read about that!
They are trying to take LGBTQ people's rights to have children away. I also read the apathy was crippling when it came to voting and that's why the fascists took over. Again. Didn't Italy learn anything from its past?

    2. it is not fascism in the strict sense, but it is a conservative government and parliament. The Italian electorate is largely centered. But now it moves a little to the left and now to the right. Unfortunately, Italians have currently voted for the Right out of desperation I think, because politics has sunk so low that one chooses what is, according to him, the least worst.

    3. And choosing the lesser of two evils is just a bad move.
Look what we got in America: a tv host show with a tendency for kleptocracy and a megalomaniac streak. Not good.
It's not fascism in Italy. Yet.

    4. I do not know what to tell you. We will see over time. To say that there is kleptocracy in Italy is an understatement: most politicians are corrupt and liable to be blackmailed by other politicians. And the Italians now digest everything. What in other countries (France, Germany, the United Kingdom, just to stay in Europe) would cause scandal, is normal for us.

    5. Oh, same here.
The Russian mafia has Kompromat on half of the Repugs in America. And same in America. After Cheeto became president, the bar is literally on the ground. Nothing a Republican does is dirty or corrupt enough to get them out of office.

  2. Every time I think of this crooked, grifted, payola SCOTUS and their rulings I go back to this quote:

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
    —Martin Niemöller

If anyone, including MAGAts think they are safe from these runaway jurists, just wait because they are coming for everyone whop isn't white, straight, male and rich.
    CAST A GODDAMNED VOTE.

    1. Well, the MAGAts are doing perfectly fine with this SCOTUS.
The rulings all affect women and minorities and you know that conservatives will cut their noses to spite their faces, so no biggie.
Martin Niemöller was right. The gays need to get their privileged asses in gear and vote. Even if that means taking other people into consideration, because they are next.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
This made up case should be thrown out. SCOTUS should declare “oopsie my bad. Don’t mind all of the dollars falling out from under our robes. You caught us.” Then those that voted in favor of this ruling should be impeached and any pensions canceled. Pull them before a senate hearing and find out how this happened.

As you and Bob said, this is just the tip of the iceberg. They’re coming for all that don’t fit their model.

    1. I would love to see them impeached, but what good does it do if they aren't removed physically? Both Trump and Clinton got impeached and still served out their terms? We call them out, they get caught, but yet aren't held accountable to punishment. Trump should have been jailed right at the leaving of office, and Clarence Thomas should also be gone after all his bullshit...but no.... he is still there getting away with it.

    2. Oh, Salon has an article about how it was perfectly fine for SCOTUS to get away with this and how they do not have to recall their ruling. And these justices will not be impeached, no matter how egregious their corruption is discovered to be.
I think they need to expand SCOTUS. There's no need anymore to keep just nine...

      HuntleyBiGuy:
@Maddie Unfortunately there’s a two step process to removal from office: the impeachment is the bringing of charges; the trial in the senate is where they’ve failed. Unfortunately with the current makeup of the senate it’s practically impossible to get those 60 votes.

    4. Thanks, bae.
That's what I thought. It's an arduous process and the justices are counting on it to keep the fuckery up. With the Repugs backing them up, there's no removing them..
So let's vote the Repugs out of office!!

  4. Conservatives have always put themselves and their beliefs above all else. It's a power thing. Their need to say, "shut up, I'm in charge." They will continue to whittle away until America finally stands up to them, and then they will be sorely unhappy to be put into their place.

    1. Oh, yes.
It is a power thing. That's all they care about: not the country, not their constituents. Just power. I wonder when America is gonna stand against these bigots, though... the clock is ticking...

  5. Big says,
Y'all have that wrong.... It's the ECOTUS; the EXTREME Court of the United States.
And, yes, if you are not straight, white, "christian," they are coming for YOU next. As has been said on the ***real*** cable channel news programs, the right-wingers will not be happy until they have sent this country back to the 19-aughts, to the times when they were the only ones who had any say in how everyone else lived.

    1. ECOTUS sounds about right.
I cannot believe these rulings have come out of the highest court in the country. And you are right: the aim of the conservatives is to go back to the time where the Queers, the Colored and the little women knew their place: under the thumb of white cisgender xtianist males.

  7. Like everything else the Supreme Court had gotten political and like everything is left and right. The middle ground is gone, and the court is now compromised. No one with sense will trust them anymore. I would care less if the damn building collapsed on them. I'm also not sure why Biden didn't stack the court? Did he not say he was going too before being elected? But he would never answer yes or no. He should have. It may have saved us the abortion debacle now.

    1. Oh, honey.
The middle ground was gone when The Turtle denied Obama's choice for SCOTUS and then they stacked the court with corrupt, handpicked, unvetted justices that are going to work for the religious right. Clarence has been doing that for decades.
I think Uncle Joe should expand the court and add two or three new justices. The screams of the Repugs would be heard in the Poles. The process is not simple, though. And I don't think the President has the power to just name someone...
