Oh, Ricardo…!
The artist is Ricardo Bessa or @RBESSAAA, ..."a London-based, Portuguese freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who is partial to unique characters and eye-catching colour combos. Drawing inspiration from nature, comics and mythology, as well his upbringing in sunny Portugal and a variety of queer art, he tries to depict a world that's just a little bit more magical than you'd expect.." And I just had to dive in. You, know, for research purposes.
P.S. here's Ricardo giving a talk on his work:
obviously thanks for these liks. I didn't follow these guys, but now I do!!!
ReplyDeleteCool!
DeleteI like what Ricardo does. Very creative. And Jason June's books are super fun.
XOXO
I like the more Pop Art stuff he does.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Right!
DeleteMost of these artists have several facets to them. I like the style he used on the cover of the book, though. It goes well with my fantasy.

HuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteHe’s quite a talent. And he’s quite engaging in the video. Too bad the series he talks about in the video is on Netflix, it seems interesting.
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
Very talented!
DeleteAnd when someone can explain something that's difficult to other people in such a simple way, I give them props.
I need to check that series out!

Soooo...the whole time I was scrolling though this, because of Jason June's book title, I had Debbie Gibson's song playing in my head. It looks like a book I would like to read. I'm currently reading Endpapers and Starless Sea.
ReplyDeleteOMG
DeleteBlast from the past! And it's such a fun book! Very summer reading. And if you're loving Starless Sea you'll like Out of the Blue.
XOXO
Big says,
ReplyDeleteCool, colorful art. You can see why he's making himself a decent living. Listened to about a minute of his talk. That's about all I could handle. Too many "uh"s. LOL.
XOXO
His art is very beautiful.
DeleteI really like it when artists can actually make a living doing.. their art? And I also like that he's collaborated with other queer artists. And you know sometimes artists are not the best public speakers, right? LOL

That story and the cover art of this book reminds me of a blogger that was in our little community, Eric Arvin. He was a gay author and soooo nice and very cute! His blog is gone, but if you google him, I'm sure you'll find info about him. Sadly, he is no longer with us, died way to young... but I still have his books he sent me to read , a gift he sent me for my birthday one year. I have the feeling you'd love his fun stories. He met the love of his life before passing on. Tj Clune is also a gay author.
ReplyDeleteOhhh
DeleteI love YOUR story! I'm going to have to see if my library has anything by Eric or TJ Clune now.
XOXO
Charming art! Very fanart-ish style.
ReplyDeleteI know right?
DeleteIt reminded me of the best of Tumblr. It's a particular aesthetic and I'm here for it.
XOXO
Wow. Thanks for sharing Ricardo with us, Sixpence. What a talented dude.
ReplyDeleteHe is!
DeleteAnd thanks for stopping by, Mr. Shife!
XOXO
They all remind me of Anime, and I really don't like Anime.
ReplyDeleteOh. This is unexpected.
DeleteNot really.
LMAOOOO

What gorgeous art from Ricardo Bessa! The Out of the Blue cover illustration is delightful, but my favourite is the man with the peaches. I'm glad I popped over now - thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes!
DeleteVery suggestive. And smart. And glad you dropped by!!
XOXO
