ˈvər-(ˌ)chü-ˈsig-nə-liŋ or virtue-signalling: the act or practice of conspicuously displaying one's awareness of and attentiveness to political issues, matters of social and racial justice, etc., especially instead of taking effective action.

I had been searching for awhile for a tool that would let me see if I was really as left leaning as I've been accused of pretending to be. And alas, I found one. And It seems that I indeed am a Leftie. I'm more to the Left that even I thought I was. TMYK, right? Only thing that worries me? That 'Libertarian' possibility. But I could live with it, just don't fucking recommend I read Ayn Rand.

And you would not believe it (of course you would) but 'conservatives' are taking this test to 'show' how 'liberal' they are (I'm looking at you, Ben Shapiro). Which of course does not make sense, because they are always on the Authoritarian side, even if they are not deep into the Right side of things.

I'll give you an example of the things I believe in courtesy of @so.informed

Even though I do not own a house, I think housing should be affordable for everybody. Living a paycheck away from eviction is a travesty. Also, try and google how much a house was in 1970 and how much an average person made then. Then find out how much that same house is worth today. I'm sure you'll stop blaming Millenials for not 'getting their shit together'.

This is a no-brainer. And I don't even have (or will ever have) children! But it's not about 'me'. It's about people, as a whole. Remember, the Repugs and Right Wingers only think about themselves, never others.

So you can imagine how I felt when the Repugs were saying that giving children lunch at schools was an 'entitlement'. Heartless fuckers. May all of them die hungry.
Also, quick reminded that I do not have children. Still, this tracks.

This one is a doozy. I was once on COBRA between jobs and it was hell. The health care system in the U.S. is just another corporation, draining people of their life force drop by drop. Debra, I'm moving to Canada!

Duh. And when I say 'all people' I mean all people. Remember, first they came for the Drag Queens and you did squat because you are not a Drag Queen...

I wish all those xtianists that think that the earth must be pillaged because they're going to 'leave' in the rapture, would get raptured already so we can fix this fuckery. Fuck them and their climate change denial. I'm not gonna be here in forty years, and still I fucking want oil companies to stop fucking with the environment.

When the repugs talk about being pro-life but keep giving in to the gun lobby...

Because people should not have to choose between working two minimum wage jobs or eating three meals a day. You know what I'm talking about.

So, I guess I am a Leftie, after all. But where are you, Constant Reader, in this continuum? Are you a 'centrist' as you think, or not? Are you a Leftie this side of AOC? Go ahead, take the test @thepoliticalcompass. The answer may surprise you...

XOXO

P.S. Please note that the test isn’t a survey, and those aren’t questions. They’re propositions. To question the logic of individual ones that irritate you is to miss the point. Some propositions are extreme, and some are moderate. That’s how we can show you whether you lean towards extremism or moderation on the Compass. Your responses should not be overthought. Some of them are intentionally vague. Their purpose is to trigger reactions in the mind, measuring feelings and prejudices rather than detailed opinions on policy.

And if agreeing with the so.informed information make me a radical, sign me up.

  4. we should all be well enough. And we could really be like this if 10% of the world's population didn't have 90% of the wealth.

Mind that I am not a communist, marxist, socialist, soviet, maoist etc. and I think that where communism has been applied as in Russiqa and in China it has brought only misery and poverty. I have a vision that comes close to Swedish social democracy, not far from your Democrats. Don't forget that I live in Italy.

    1. Oh, that 10% sounds about right.
I think any of the political philosophies have demonstrated that when applied on their own tend to not work. Social democracy does not sound bad at all. After all, Sweden is one of the ten best countries to live in. Let's move there!

  5. Huh.... I'm not really sure what it means. Centrist, with Left Leaning proclivities I think? Economic: -5.25 / Soc: -4.72 The results don't speak clearly at all.

    1. Well, they do want us to give them our info so they can use it in exchange for a more detailed explanation.
I think that it kind of puts you where many Dems are: closer to the center. I think this is to the left of Biden.

  6. Don't worry about the "libertarian" end of the spectrum when expressed as the opposite of "authoritarianism" -- this is SOCIAL libertarianism which basically means "if someone's personal characteristics/behaviour doesn't hurt anyone, it's none of my business"" not "economic" libertarianism which basically creates the horrific economic darwinism of "anything goes" survival of the fittest.

I know, I know. I just think that Ayn is overrated. Economic libertarianism is absolutely bonkers IMHO.

  7. I guess I am a leftie too, Sixpence. I think the only question should be "Can we be kind to others?" because that seems to be a big problem for some folks. Just having some common decency seems to be a stretch for people these days. A living wage, affordable housing, health care coverage should be an opportunity for everyone.

    1. Haha Welcome to the club, Mr. Shife!
And that question is something that some 'conservatives' do not understand. They are absolutely self-centered and materialistic. It's impossible for them to show compassion or empathy. That is the problem.

  8. Ohh, honey... you take the lead on this number. I just wanna be your back up singer making you look good! When we have presidential debates? Why is it the rhetoric gets so damn obtuse? They could take the points you have laid out here and speak to at least 70% of the the US population. Instead? We get mired in politospeak and pointing fingers and bringing up things from the damn past. Our problems are real. Our problems are now. Address those... let us know where you stand so we can figure out whose side you're on. And that's the problem. Politics is now about as effective as showbiz - the talent gets handled, everything has a spin cycle, facts are yesterday's news... Common sense. Wouldn't it be nice if real people had a say in things?

Common sense, right? But politics is so fucked up that reality gets on the way of power.
